No, thank *you* for keeping us all updated. ONTD may not be the logical choice to read about something like this, but this is an oddly comforting place, because there is such compassion and understanding here. I dread following this story elsewhere, because that is where nutjobs, bastards and sociopaths post their twisted, hurtful and unnecessary comments to this horrible news. CNN, MSNBC, BBC - nowhere is safe from despicable, glib user comments.

Thank you.

Here in San Diego NBC is saying they're already outside the home of the woman who identified herself as the shooter's mom...
eightball 20th-Jul-2012 01:53 pm (UTC)
the details are so unsettling. the guy was over 6ft, muscular, wearing like a vest (or something w/ armor not sure) and a gas mask :\

i dont even know what I would do. one of the girls there said he was targeting people running OUT of the theater and they had to come back.
eightball 20th-Jul-2012 01:58 pm (UTC)
they were heading out but people told them to come back because others were getting shot :\ in that direction

This is a truly sick world :(

chocoiste 20th-Jul-2012 01:56 pm (UTC)
a girl i go to school with is tweeting that her and her brother were in an adjacent screen and felt shrapnel coming through the walls and everyone ran out of the theatre
hotcement 20th-Jul-2012 01:58 pm (UTC)
damn! glad she wound up being okay.
vehiclesshockme 20th-Jul-2012 03:11 pm (UTC)
Yeah my local news was reporting that people in the auditorium next to this one were injured as well.

I'm just waiting for the media to start using buzzwords like he was "introverted" and "kept to himself" Events like this always help solidify the general dislike of non-outgoing people that our society seems to have now.
modernelegance 20th-Jul-2012 01:58 pm (UTC)
I'm waiting for "bullied", "goth" and "marylin manson"
headswillroll88 20th-Jul-2012 02:01 pm (UTC)
Um no, just that the fear of introverts seems to be greater. And who said anything about being a shut-in?
promisemewings 20th-Jul-2012 02:04 pm (UTC)
I know, right? I just watched Bowling for Columbine a couple of nights ago, too.
recognitions 20th-Jul-2012 02:14 pm (UTC)
People need to check their extrovert privilege, tbh.
leopard_legs 20th-Jul-2012 02:29 pm (UTC)
It's such bullshit. I'm very introverted and private and I can really be judged for it sometime. I'm treat like there's something severely wrong with me.
juanbomb 20th-Jul-2012 03:24 pm (UTC)
well, but what if he was?

Most of these people fit this profile, sadly.

However, I doubt anyone is going to think you're a potential serial killer just because you're not very social.

ikr it's so stupid

it's not a big deal? some of us just joined the post and aren't about to go through 20+ pages

it hasn't been posted in the past few pages, which is probably what he/she skimmed through

there are 20 pages and i haven't read through all of them. it's bound to happen.

word from new york now:

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly has released the following statement:
"As a precaution against copycats and to raise the comfort levels among movie patrons in the wake of the horrendous shooting in Colorado, the New York City Police Department is providing coverage at theaters where the 'The Dark Knight Rises' is playing in the five boroughs."

good, i'm glad. i was going to see it this weekend in manhattan.
publicfrenemy 20th-Jul-2012 02:01 pm (UTC)
that's good. I hope other cities follow suit. I know it would make me feel better if I were going to the theater.

this is really a moot point for me, though, because I don't' get to go to the movies for another 2 years or so.
hotcement 20th-Jul-2012 02:03 pm (UTC)
a lot of people are bitching about how this is an unnecessary precaution because "prove to me that there's a conspiracy to do this nationwide!!" but durr durr at those assholes, what about copycats? that shit terrifies me and a multitude of others, clearly.
colorstoobright 20th-Jul-2012 02:02 pm (UTC)
Good to hear this.
bewitchedxsoul 20th-Jul-2012 02:02 pm (UTC)
I'm hoping they'll do something like that here, too. We usually have a state trooper patrolling the entire theater - but I'd like one for each screening of this movie for at least the next week. I'm supposed to go see it tomorrow. =/
fruitchews 20th-Jul-2012 02:03 pm (UTC)
Wow. I hope other places can do this as well if they have the manpower.
sessile29 20th-Jul-2012 02:04 pm (UTC)
glad that they are

it makes me angry and sad beyond belief that they even have to do this tho
thefoxcharmer 20th-Jul-2012 03:38 pm (UTC)
Do you have a link for this statement?
camila12j 20th-Jul-2012 02:00 pm (UTC)
Things like this give me nightmares for weeks :'( this is so terrifying
publicfrenemy 20th-Jul-2012 02:03 pm (UTC)
oh, gosh, it looks like he had a co-conspirator who opened the emergency exit for him.
chocoiste 20th-Jul-2012 02:19 pm (UTC)
do they know if it was an employee of the theatre or if it was someone watching the film?
bewitchedxsoul 20th-Jul-2012 02:03 pm (UTC)
To the people wondering how the gunman got in using the emergency exit: Eyewitness have said that a man stood up in the theater, pretended to use the phone, and went out through the emergency exit. The next time that door opened..it was the gunman coming in.

Odds are, he went out that way to prop it open so he'd have an easy in.
modernelegance 20th-Jul-2012 02:05 pm (UTC)
Ugh...I just knew there was an accomplice! (or it may have been the guy himself waiting for a scene.)

hotcement 20th-Jul-2012 02:10 pm (UTC)
could it be that he himself did that? ran outside to the car to get his stuff and came back in?
bewitchedxsoul 20th-Jul-2012 02:14 pm (UTC)
Very possible. His car was nearby.
mollywobbles867 20th-Jul-2012 02:10 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I was thinking he probably was already in the theater.
emmy0001 20th-Jul-2012 02:10 pm (UTC)
oh my god. what in the fuck!?
msamericandream 20th-Jul-2012 02:10 pm (UTC)
are there cameras in theaters? i hope the back alley/lot has cameras so they catch the accomplice (if it's true)
neko_oni 20th-Jul-2012 02:12 pm (UTC)
Oh, that makes sense... So he set up the door and geared up in his car that parked in back... JFC. So thought through.
maroontalic 20th-Jul-2012 02:20 pm (UTC)

Sick to my stomach over this. I know the media is about to erupt in a shitstorm about the shooter's motive and history but I just keep thinking about how afraid those poor people must have been. I know that any shooting is absolutely terrifying but I have to wonder if the film itself combined with the music just piled on the terror.
pullmystrings 20th-Jul-2012 02:07 pm (UTC)
I'm sure it did, most of the people who have been interviewed said they thought it was all part of the movie at first. I can't imagine what it was like when they realized it was real =/
starbooks 20th-Jul-2012 02:08 pm (UTC)
ikr

the movie was still playing. i can't imagine how awful and surreal it was.
kingsmere 20th-Jul-2012 02:22 pm (UTC)
I saw it last night and am listening to the soundtrack now. My stomach is turning thinking about how warped it must have been to have the events in that theatre mirror what they were seeing on screen.
oh_sailor 20th-Jul-2012 02:05 pm (UTC)
Media, can we not with saying he was dressed as Bane? Witnesses said he had a helmet and gas mask on- there's a huge difference between a functional gas mask (which witnesses said made him look like a SWAT officer) and Bane's mask, which would have offered no protection for him. Just stop.
modernelegance 20th-Jul-2012 02:06 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I just keep hearing local reports of riot gear...??? *headdesk*
fruitchews 20th-Jul-2012 02:08 pm (UTC)
Yup. I hear the gas mask and then the riot gear too.
