Wow! Benedict Cumberbatch's fans raise over $11,000 for charity in honor of his birthday.

Whether you're a fan of Benedict or not, I thought that it would be nice to share this heartwarming news. :)
Six weeks ago the unofficial fansite, CumberbatchWeb started a donation drive for the Teenage Cancer Trust in honor of Benedict's birthday. Originally hoping to raise 250 pounds, fans rallied together and surpassed it by thousands!
The fundraiser was set up without his knowledge, but Benedict was told about it last week when the site owner met him during his WWI Poetry reading at Cheltenham Music Festival. He didn't find out about the sum until today.
The website's tumblr has posted the following message:
"In case you missed it on twitter Benedict has kindly sent a thank you message via his friend for the fundraising.
Benedict said:
“The amount of effort, love, joy and celebration as well as money raised! I’m speechless. Pls pass on my love and gratitude. Thank you!! Bx”
Really incredibly sweet of him to take the time to do that.
And the collection now stands at over £7000! Thank you so so much to everyone who contributed. I never could have imagined in a million years that Benedict’s wonderful fans would raise so much!"
ETA: It's made it to Radio Times!
I'm also including a video interview which was made during the festival. In it, he gives some information about Parade's End as well as his part in 12 Years A slave.
Happy birthday Mr. Cumberbatch!
they're fans, that's how that works
But then again I'm not every one of his fans.
*shrug*
Man that guy tho....with a face only a blind mother could love
maybe something about how they could have raised it for the reptile conservation society or something, idk.
damn we're all struggling today, usually we are better than this
I went with an ugly comment and I guess I'll just do better in the next post
I like your reptile conservation thing tho! Maybe "Good of them to do that but I was surprised they didn't donate to the reptile conservation society instead as that is a cause very close to his heart"
It's cool anytime people decide to give money to charity, whatever the reason, and this is significantly better than the people who go out and buy gifts for celebs, and better even than all of those online projects of writing your celeb a letter and enclosing a photo. This is significantly less creepy and doesn't make you look like a loser for participating in.
And I'm not gonna claim that the superfandoms do it better because that would just be rude and unnecessary!
I mean, seriously, where do you all live that Benedict Cumberbatch is the ugliest man you've ever seen? Coz I'm moving there.
oh, wait, i forgot about Beans from Even Stevens. FINE, then benedict is in third place.
We have to maintain sanity and reiterate reality here. Otherwise it will be like 1984 where 2+2=5.
