No hate from me, but I do have a counterargument: Johnny Depp does different movies with different characters that are the same, while RDJ is one character lol

And I want to add that to each their own, we don't have to like the same thing bla bla, which is basically imo, common sense. We all need to learn that people have different tastes.

I suppose the pseudo-douchebaggery is all part of the charm of some of us, considering that he at least knows when to turn it off and start turning out quality work. Sure, he's pretty much become one with Tony Stark by this point in public, but he's also incredibly dedicated to his craft and nobody in the industry has anything but good things to say about him (...now, that is. 10 years ago, it would've been a much different story).

How does RDJ come across as a douche to you? I think he's just a straightforward person who's really self-aware of his past and problems and is now totally okay with things. I wish he'd branch out more because I love his more serious/indie/non-popcorn movie work. Though, he's not nearly as bad/offensive as Johnny Depp, imo. I do fucking sideeye RDJ a lot over his choice in friends and things he's said, but it doesn't scream 'douche' to me. BUT, I totally can see how he would come across that way.

Both of them are incredibly talented actors who could do so much better than what they ARE doing, but RDJ seems to be enjoying himself, his life, and having fun after a long period of trouble. I can't be mad over that.

I think RDJ has a giant ego and loooooooves attention but is genuinely a good guy. Every story I hear about him is really positive. And while I do wish he would branch out more in his roles, because I think now he's just doing what he thinks is fun, I still get the impression that he's actually trying in his films. He's still giving a good performance even though his performances are similar, which can't be said about Johnny Depp at this point.

There's a difference between being a douche and being an attention whore. RDJ is not malicious or a fuckwad in his attitude. He's just a catty dude who's really enjoying the limelight. He's always "on". At the end of the day, however, he does his job and he does it well, and people like working with him. This is a far call from being a douche.

Johnny Depp used to be really fantastic, but he's obviously past his peak, so he's cashing in and ruining his reputation in the process.

No hate even though I don't entirely agree. To me, it doesn't seem like he's a giant douche, but I do think he's ....very, very aware of himself and essentially trying to live it up. I think he's also intensely sarcastic. This is not appealing all the time.

Re: film roles. I think the reason he's doing this is because he spent a good chunk of his career being a risk. He has done some amazing work, but I think he's so OHMYGODYAY at the big, big, less intimate movies because he's really pleased and happy that he's actually being given those sorts of roles. He spent so many years being the Hollywood joke due to his addictions and jail that I think he's trying to reestablish and keep his worth and validate himself and wallow in the love those big films give him. Even when he was an unemployable addict, people agreed he was a great actor ...and agreed he was a gigantic waste of talent at that time. Having come out on the other end, he doesn't have to prove his skills to himself or anyone, but I do think he's really in love with the fact that after years of being a joke, Hollywood trusts him to headline a $200 million dollar film when a decade ago, they absolutely would not.

to each their own. I love the man unconditionally. I have a list of actors that I just love no matter what and it turns out they're all born the same week as I am.

ia that he does seem to be lacking in range although i can't hate him for wanting to earn the money. but he's so not a douche, there are countless stories about how amazing he is and how much he helps out people that wouldn't really get a chance because he's so understanding of what they've been through given his past fuck ups.

and re the republican thing: he's been at countless obama fundraisers so i highly doubt he's a republican which he never even said he was, just that he didn't immediately side with the democrats and agreed with some of the republican views on stuff.

Yeah, he seems to have an ego but it's the kind you'd laugh at rather than think "ugh, this guy's a fucking douchebag." XD
