EW met up with comedian (and avid comic book fan) Patton Oswalt at The Spreckels Theatre in San Diego to hear how he’s enjoying Comic-Con and get a behind-the-scenes look at how he prepares for the big comedy show he does during the event every year.
We also asked what he thinks of the Daniel Tosh rape joke controversy. His level-headed response: “Obviously, I don’t agree with what he said, and I don’t agree with how he said it, but I think it’s very dangerous to create an atmosphere where people can’t f— up.”

saying it would be funny if a woman was gang raped is what actually creates a "dangerous situation", NOT people calling out someone for their disgusting/entitled behavior. this feels like some kind of insane deterring logical fallacy.
thats like saying "i scared the shit out of you while other people laughed, but youre hurting my ego by telling me it was wrong and thats scary :("
You can fuck up in this world and people will forgive you if you own your shit and don't explain it away and blame everyone else but yourself. It's the lack of owning your actions and learning from them that turn people off as much as the fuck up itself. sometimes more so.
However I really want to live in a world where someone doesn't think it's ok to say "wouldn't it be funny if she were gang raped right now?" or hurl rape jokes period, or think it's ok to sexually objectify to the point of violence because someone is seen as lesser. rape culture isn't a myth and as long as these comedians close ranks and don't let Tosh take it on the chin, they are contributing to it by refusing to address how serious it really is.
