Jamie Oliver: 'Energy drinks are like cocaine for kids'

Jamie Oliver has compared energy drinks to cocaine.

The celebrity chef and healthy food campaigner said that it can be difficult to teach children who have been drinking the non-age-restricted substances.

Oliver told the Evening Standard that parents giving their children such drinks "might as well be giving them cocaine".

When it was suggested that was 'a bit strong', Oliver replied: "Try teaching them after they've necked a can of it."

Oliver admitted that he has to be careful not to be seen as a "right proper w**ker" when talking about health issues, but added: "Hand on heart, I believe I work for the public, and that carries massive, genuine responsibilities."

Of his controversial 2010 US show Jamie's Food Revolution, Oliver said: "We had to cut it. It was so embarrassing, it would have seemed patronising.

"They thought honey came from bears and spaghetti grew on trees and chocolate was from lakes."

Me frickin' too. Its a serious rage. I want to punch him in the face anytime I hear his name, see him on television, or look at this post. He's such an unbelievable jackass.

He's opening a restaurant in my boyfriend's hotel next year and I want to do everything in my power to avoid having to meet him because I'm pretty sure I'll get super American on his ass and put him in his place.

Me too, I watched one episode of his American show and I wanted to strangle him. I'm not even a butthurt American, but the way he talked to the women who worked in those kitchens was so gross and demeaning

The more information that people find about medications/side effects/illnesses, the worse it is. We have a bunch of people with a tenuous grasp on basic science reading stuff they cannot understand. People freak out and don't even realize that the study could be flawed, etc. I mean, that's why we have people thinking that vaccines cause autism, for pete's sake.

My husband has a coworker that when they were in afghanistan he wouldn't eat anything other than a couple of really unhealthy things and he wouldn't eat much of it but then drink 10 energy drinks a day. He almost died and it made his lungs collapse in.

I could definetly have coffee at night and still sleep like a baby. If my husband has one drop of anything caffeine after 9am, he's up all night. Some people are sensitive and honestly I wish I were more like that. The amount i consume sme days is disgusting. I've tried so many alternatives too.

Coke doesn't do anything for me anymore but coffee keeps me up and jittery for hours :/ Good thing I don't like coffee at all, lol but I wake up early for work so sometimes I have one to keep me going in the afternoon.
