Scout Holmes Goes to the Zoo

Katie Holmes and daughter Suri were pictured earlier today (July 11) enjoying yet another 'mother/daughter' day out, this time the actress took her six year old daughter to Central Park zoo.

The pair were also joined by Katie's mother Kathleen, as they were all pictured looking happy as they watched the penguins swim around in the New York City tourist attraction.

Since the unexpected split, it looks like Katie has been doing whatever she can to take control of Suri's life and is even considering changing the six year-old's name as she attempts to cut links with her ex-hubby Tom Cruise after filing for divorce just ten days ago.

According to Now Magazine she wants to remove all influences from her daughter, who she was awarded primary custody of following the couple's divorce settlement announced on Monday (July 8) and wants to change her name from 'Suri Cruise' to 'Scout Holmes'.

An insider told the magazine: “She's been telling friends she wants to make Suri's middle name Cruise and change her surname to Holmes”

“She hates the name Suri, so she gave her a nickname from To Kill A Mockingbird,” the source added.

It's weird to actually see other children around Suri. They both look happy though. Love it.

$500? Where do you live? I'm planning to start the process soon, and it's $200 here in NJ. I'm just adding a middle name (I wasn't given one at birth), and it's the same price as if I wanted to change my whole damn name to, say, Optimus Prime.

The reason why I'm bothering? When I was a teenager, I decided to give myself a middle name to make myself feel "normal," and it somehow ended up on several official records. So while it's not on my birth certificate (duh), driver's license or marriage certificate, it's on my passport, Social Security card, employment records and financials. I figured it's a good idea to have everything match up.

how did you get it on your ss card if it's not on your birth certificate?

My dad messed up my passport lol - I have two middle names, totally seperate no hyphen or anything and my DAD reversed them and added a hyphen... When we got it I laughed my ass off, but my mom was pissed and it has caused a bit of hassle when doing things that require multiple forms of id lol

Anyway, how did you go about picking a mn? If you picked it as a teenager, do you still like it now? I'm super curious about this, hope you don't mind!

I have no idea how it ended up on my Social. I guess in the '90s they weren't sticklers for ID consistency as they are now. ;)

I had to choose a name for confirmation, so I picked Michelle, since it was derived from a saint's name. If I didn't have that restriction, I'd have probably gone with whatever literary heroine I was obsessed with at the time (so, it could have been Scout!). Thankfully, Michelle is a nice, classic name that transcended teenage whims.

Huh. I asked because when my dad got mine and my sister's SS cards shortly after we were born (86 and 87), he had to take the birth certificates in. I just assumed they did the same thing if you didn't get your SS card when you were born.

That's a good thing you had some kind of guideline though lol I was thinking that second part because there were times me and my friends, when we were in high school, would have discussions like "if you went into wit-sec and changed your name what would you choose?" lol And the name we came up with were awful.

Puerto Rico. :)

I changed it to drop my first name, which I never used. I'm thinking of doing it again to drop my "father's" last name and to add a middle name.

I should've done both the first time, but oh well.

Yep. Like $365 for the filing fee and $100-something to publish the name change in the paper. Luckily I got the filing fee waived when I changed my daughter's name.
