Casting news: Simon (from the Tumblr of Cassandra Clare)

So remember when I said we wouldn’t have a Simon till July for Reasons?

The Reasons were that the actors up for Simon had to test with Jamie and Lily in Toronto to see how the chemistry worked. When I talked to Jamie and Lily yesterday it was about who we thought was the absolute best, the most Simon-y Simon, and fortunately we all agreed.

Y’all know I am a big Misfits fan, so you should not be surprised to know that I’m ecstatic that our Simon is:

Robert Sheehan. You may know him as Nathan. :) 

He’s totally cute and adorable and HILARIOUS, and his chemistry with Lily and Jamie is off the charts. I’ve wanted him for Simon for ages so I am pretty much totally and entirely happy.

Also you should all watch Misfits.

How cute is he?!!!!


Is this a step up for him? I liked Misfits which is the only reason this caught my attention.  Is the Mortal Instruments still relevant? I feel like they've been trying to make that movie happen forever.

ETA: For anyone who's confused (there seem to be a couple), this casting is regarding the upcoming film series "The Mortal Instruments" based on the YA novel series of the same name by author Cassandra Clare.

Yes, and he throws an epic hissy fit when Clary doesn't return his feelings:

"So what if Jace is a jerk sometimes? You're not my brother, you're not my dad, you don't have to like him. I've never liked any of your girlfriends, but at least I've had the decency to keep it to myself."

"This," said Simon, between his teeth, "is different."

"How? How is it different?"

"Because I see the way you look at him!" he shouted. "And I never looked at any of those girls like that! It was just something to do, a way to practice, until-"

Clary knew dimly that she was being horrible, the whole thing was horrible; they'd never even had a fight before that was more serious than an argument about who'd eaten the last Pop-Tart from the box in the tree house, but she didn't seem able to stop. "Until Isabelle came along? I can't believe you're lecturing me about Jace when you made a complete fool of yourself over her!" Her voice rose to a scream.

"I was trying to make you jealous!" Simon screamed, right back. His hands were fists at his sides. "You're so stupid, Clary. You're so stupid, can't you see anything?"

She stared at him in bewilderment. What on earth did he mean? "Trying to make me jealous? Why would you try to do that?"

She saw immediately that this was the worst thing she could have asked him.

"Because," he said, so bitterly that it shocked her, "I've been in love with you for ten years, so I thought it seemed like time to find out whether you felt the same about me. Which, I guess, you don't."


He was such an asshole in the first book.

lol ikr, i'm in this post super late but still dead @ all the salty bitches up in here... i guess people think he's an ass because he left misfits. they presume he quit because he thought he was better than the show and wanted to have a movie career, and they keep citing the nic cage movie as evidence of him failing at that, which is embarrassing because he made that movie BEFORE misfits. he left the show to do different things, just like iwan and antonia did although i never see people hating on them for their decision. it's not that he necessarily wanted to be a big shot movie star, because if that was his aim he wouldn't have spent months performing a notoriously difficult irish play in the west end, or have filmed three seasons of love/hate etc etc etc.

i like him. this movie/franchise looks shitty but he'll get exposure from it, so good for him.

Although he could have been a waiter at denny's who moonlighted as a nuclear waste facility's janitor and this still would have been a downgrade soo
