Fast Food Employees Share The Worst Items To Order

Photobucket

On the heels of a recent Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) with a McDonald's employee, an AskReddit conversation thread popped up yesterday that we couldn't tear ourselves away from.

"Fast food workers of Reddit, what is the one menu option at your employment that you would recommend people never eat? (Because of cooking safety, cleanliness, unhealthy, etc)," asked user 4ScienceandReason. This thread, which generated over 6,000 comments in 24 hours, brought some amazingly gross things to light -- some expected and some unexpected -- as well as some good-to-know tricks for the fast-food customer.

I'm really burnt out on fast food (Chipotle, McDonald's, Five Guys, Panera etc.) I used to eat it all the time but now I'm just bored with it, if that makes sense.
hannahgrace456 9th-Jul-2012 04:02 am (UTC)
IA. I used to love it but now it's just not even good or worth the calories in taste. My friends wanted to go to Panera last night and I really didn't want to but felt like I couldn't say no and ask them to get something healthier.
superpchan 9th-Jul-2012 04:02 am (UTC)
I liked Chipotle, but it was too expensive for me. I like guacamole (theirs was too bland, though) and the cost to add it was high. I sometimes brought my own and added it outside on the patio.

A major radio station here did an experiment where they had live callers go through fast food drive throughs and try and get their food for free. They came up with some lie (like the had a messed up order last time and the place said they could get it for free later) and every single caller got their meal for free. It was amazing.
jeterluva Re: it's easy to get free food9th-Jul-2012 04:25 am (UTC)
They mess up orders a lot or at least whenever my dad goes there. He bitches about it for days afterwards.

sullen_child Re: it's easy to get free food9th-Jul-2012 05:27 am (UTC)
Is this a surprise? We do this all the time. I mean, we really had called ahead and talked to the manager and everything, but it really wasn't a big deal and could see it working even if you're lying. They have way too many customers and mess up too often for them to tell if you're not being truthful.
fancypiink Re: it's easy to get free food9th-Jul-2012 05:35 am (UTC)
only cheap as fuck assholes do this. it's so incredibly unnecessary.

I hardly ever eat fast food or anything processed, but Chipotle and In N Out are delish (though In N Out seems to be less so every time eat there). Whenever I get fast food, it's good for the first two or three bites, then I just want to die. It makes me feel so sick.

My sister lives and eats really healthily but will take her kids to In N Out two to four times a week. It's so disgusting and every time I see her she asks if I want to go.
mollywobbles867 9th-Jul-2012 04:01 am (UTC)
Not fast food, but I ate at Olive Garden on Friday and half of my fish was undercooked. I didn't get sick and they comp'd my meal and gave me free soup and salad to go. That's the first time I've ever had a problem there, so I chalk it up to it being super busy that night or a faulty grill.
xtinkerbellax 9th-Jul-2012 04:27 am (UTC)
Olive Garden is fast food, they just don't have a drive thru lol.
childish 9th-Jul-2012 04:01 am (UTC)
We don't have a McDonalds where I live, I think we only really have a couple of fast food joints. So whenever I go stateside I always get some, but after having it like twice I'm done. Idk how people can eat that regularly.
deathbytamarind 9th-Jul-2012 04:01 am (UTC)
I made sesame chicken from scratch for dinner tonight, including the sauce and deep frying the chicken. It came out so good. Forgive the bad cell phone pic.

cherie_001 9th-Jul-2012 04:05 am (UTC)
That looks delicious! Recipe please? I'm always looking to make something different
deathbytamarind 9th-Jul-2012 04:17 am (UTC)
http://deep-fried.food.com/recipe/flawless-sesame-chicken-restaurant-style-129598

I cut the sugar from 1/2 cup to 3 teaspoons and it made a difference. The flavor is much richer.

I breaded the chicken in Panko and then deep fried it in soybean oil. Everyone says to deep fry in peanut oil but soybean works great for me with my cast iron Dutch oven. :)
bgwqlc 9th-Jul-2012 04:10 am (UTC)
That looks really good.
milkradio 10th-Jul-2012 02:12 am (UTC)
I've made sesame chicken from scratch before too, but it uses soooo much oil to do the chicken properly that I haven't done it in like 2 years, but maaaaaaan it was so delicious :'(
gdithero 9th-Jul-2012 04:01 am (UTC)
oh god, I don't give a flying fuck what the fuck ever happened to my food as my chicken tastes delicious and there's no floating shit on my coffee float

no fastfood = no lunch. and dinner. and breakfast

Speaking of NASTY, the previous owners of my house (I'm friends with them on facebook now) made a post a few months ago about how the husband had BIT INTO A DEAD MOUSE in his pretzel that he got from the hospital cafetria he worked at.

It was like whole and everything.

any canadians work at/worked at/or know anyone who works at Smoke's Poutinerie?

it's the only late night place open past 2 AM and my friends and i head there sometimes but their fries and sauces are just so nasty. i wonder how they make it.
demonsandsongs 9th-Jul-2012 04:05 am (UTC)
I wouldn't trust any food place after 9pm tbh
flashnights 9th-Jul-2012 04:05 am (UTC)
idk anyone who works there but it;s tasted fine anytime i've had it. but the latest i've gone is like 10ish tbf
kapuki234 9th-Jul-2012 04:07 am (UTC)
oh god you should never go past midnight-ish

they stop frying their french fries fresh and just fry batches ahead of time, throw them onto giant cafeteria platters, leave them there for hours and serve them to customers
invisible_cunt 9th-Jul-2012 04:10 am (UTC)
i've eaten at smoke's a couple times in ottawa
their gravy is fucking delicious idgaf
but i've never gotten anything other than the original
polaroidmoment 9th-Jul-2012 01:59 pm (UTC)
I don't know anyone who works there but I kind of love Smokes. I haven't been in the last two years though or after 2am so I have no idea what they're like lol.
cheryb 9th-Jul-2012 04:02 am (UTC)
every time i hear about shit like this i am like "never again" and then i erase the memory from my brain and def. eat it again. smh @ me.
bob_always_wins 9th-Jul-2012 04:02 am (UTC)
also the only fast/convenience food place that i really love is sheetz

though they fucked up my order for the first time ever last week and i was so disappointed. like your food is made to order, i picked what i wanted on my snack wrap, why the fuck did you add a random sauce to it :(
capsfanx10 9th-Jul-2012 04:10 am (UTC)
I used to go to Sheetz all the time when I was younger. I always used to get their hot dogs but I haven't had them for years.
djtino224 9th-Jul-2012 04:03 am (UTC)
I was on my lunch break from work one time, so I got Taco Bell and when I was on my way home a few hours later I started feeling pretty funky. TMI ALERT: I was up half the night puking and shitting. I seriously felt like I was gonna die. I haven't touched a chicken quesadilla...or anything else from there since.

isthisdesire Re: 9th-Jul-2012 05:02 am (UTC)
I used to love the chicken quesadillas until the chicken I bit into was all gristly and nasty. I haven't had one since then and it's been like 4 or 5 years lol
killingabraham 9th-Jul-2012 09:39 am (UTC)
i just got food poisoning from there and i will seriously never eat there again ever in my life
noahbb 9th-Jul-2012 04:03 am (UTC)
has anyone (ever working in the food industry) ever sabotaged a customer's food because they were being a complete bitch???

i know people are going to be ~omg i would never no matter how rude they were to me~ but you gotta be working there to understand~!! anyways enough share your stories
cartooneyes 9th-Jul-2012 04:06 am (UTC)
lol nope. though I wanted to so many times.

instead I was simply a bitch back.
flashnights 9th-Jul-2012 04:10 am (UTC)
no. this is totally lame but once i told a really bitchy customer her signature didn't look the same as the one on the back of her card and she had to dig through her ginormous purse to find id(which took her forever) to prove it was her which pissed her off and made my day.
pikapika217 9th-Jul-2012 04:11 am (UTC)
I was too worried too but I've done thing like not helping them get things the cheapest (like when they order what essentially is a combo and ringing it all seperately or lying about coupons)
noahbb 9th-Jul-2012 04:12 am (UTC)
ok i'll share mine~

so i use to work at this ice cream place at an exhibition. i was new and it was my first job (i was 16). there was this girl and we charge like 69¢ for a single scoop and a dollar for two. well, this woman started cussing me out in her jamaican accent saying she wanted another scoop. i told her she could have just paid the $1 and get an extra scoop, because now she'll have to pay a whole 69¢ for another scoop (and to reverse the transaction and do that whole thing over 31¢ would be really complicated and would have to wait for a manager etc. and it was my first job so at the time i would have NEVER thought about just giving her the free scoop). and oh yeah, she wanted the extra scoop because we charge too much that she should just get another one (well... that's how we make money on a hot ass day). but yeah i was soo frightened that my hands were shaking so my co worker told me to just stay behind her and she'll deal with the customer. she told the customer she would give her the additional scoop. she went to scoop the ice cream in the bucket which was down the barrel, so she had to bend down to do it, and she spit at the bottom of the BOWL (and the customer could not see since her body was covering the freezer or whatever) and put the ice cream on top. it's hard to explain but it was soo grosss but i was so happy at the time
bgwqlc 9th-Jul-2012 04:13 am (UTC)
It was hard to do that where I worked since we made it in front of them. But sometimes we would pretend we were out of something if the person acted like a dick.
malzazzle 9th-Jul-2012 04:36 am (UTC)
I would stiff them on toppings and yogurt when we were full service, and I would also add more ice to their smoothies and not fill the cup the whole way. lol there wasn't an easy way to mess with people because they watched you make it.
iamshal 9th-Jul-2012 04:43 am (UTC)
My finger has pressed the decaf button a fair few times.
outpour 9th-Jul-2012 04:52 am (UTC)

bananasnrum 9th-Jul-2012 05:03 am (UTC)
Yup. Guilty as charged.
kapuki234 9th-Jul-2012 07:01 am (UTC)
lol yup

or the opposite
helloneworld 9th-Jul-2012 04:50 am (UTC)
yes. my first day as a waitress.

i was a HS student (well i graduated early) and was serving a table of probably sophomore or junior students. one girl was being a douchbag for no reason. she was talking to me as if i was dumb (when i was just repeating an order to make sure it was correct) and seemed just trying hard to seem *cool* to her friends.

so i put my hands in her lomein. at the insistence from my co-workers (one who was my IRL friend).
fancypiink 9th-Jul-2012 05:39 am (UTC)
honestly, why would you even do that? people who mess with other's food should just not exist.
squirrelsarerad 9th-Jul-2012 06:04 am (UTC)
it was tempting at times but I never did.
kapuki234 9th-Jul-2012 07:00 am (UTC)
i wanted to, couldn't because the bitch was staring intently at me while i made her drink.
dothefrug 9th-Jul-2012 04:03 am (UTC)
i don't eat fast food, but i went to california for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and since everyone outside of california seems to lose their shit about in-n-out, i got a burger there. easily one of the most disgusting things i've had in quite some time.
laurie_springs 9th-Jul-2012 04:04 am (UTC)
lmao

I don't like it either.
xkyrie_eleisonx 9th-Jul-2012 04:06 am (UTC)
lmao it's not amazing but far from disgusting...
sweet_honesty 9th-Jul-2012 04:07 am (UTC)
I really don't understand the hype with that place
sisterhavana 9th-Jul-2012 04:08 am (UTC)
I tried In-N-Out when I was in Arizona last year. It was good but nothing I'd make a special trip to get.
rexilla 9th-Jul-2012 04:09 am (UTC)
whenever people post pictures of "animal style" things or w/e it makes me want to puke
isthisdesire 9th-Jul-2012 05:04 am (UTC)
you mean "vomit style"
lordfoldemort 9th-Jul-2012 07:59 pm (UTC)
me too. i love hamburgers and fries and greasy food but goddamn that looks disgusting.
tvisgood 9th-Jul-2012 04:09 am (UTC)
I also tried In n Out when I went to LA because no one ever shuts up about how amazing it is. IDK, I don't remember it that well. I think it was okay, but did not at all live up to the hype. It was just a burger.
invisible_cunt 9th-Jul-2012 04:10 am (UTC)
it was one of the best fast food burgers i've ever had

THEIR FRIES DDEAR GOD
lloydsgurl 9th-Jul-2012 04:12 am (UTC)
I think you have to be raised on it to appreciate it, but I don't get crying over it.

They do give me my burger fix (because I don't order burgers if I can get chicken). I only get meat cheese and tomato though.
catatlas 9th-Jul-2012 04:19 am (UTC)
I've grown up in cali and only started eating in-n-out a few years ago. Get a grilled cheese next time, it's a cheeseburger without the meat and it's amazzzing.
I'm a pescetarian since I get sick from eating more than a small amount of red meat, so it's what I always get. Plus animal style french fries, yumyum.
vehiclesshockme 9th-Jul-2012 05:02 am (UTC)
I made a point to stop at In-N-Out when I was in California checking out places I might want to apply for an internship at. Everyone I know that lives there thinks it's amazing but I thought it was gross.
violue 9th-Jul-2012 07:32 am (UTC)
I tried that place too.. i didn't find it gross, but I was like "...that was it??"
deathbytamarind 9th-Jul-2012 10:45 pm (UTC)
I hate burgers (too greasy for me) so In-n-Out means nothing to me. Their fries are good, though.
sisterhavana 9th-Jul-2012 04:03 am (UTC)
My friend worked at the Sbarro in Ford City Mall (SW side of Chicago) years ago. She told me some real horror stories about what the employees did to the food.
killingabraham 9th-Jul-2012 09:33 am (UTC)
omg don't ever say. i rarely ever get sbarro but i love it when i do.
