Natalie Wood's death certificate changed

Natalie Wood's death certificate has been changed from "Accident" to "Undetermined" ... TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... the L.A. County Coroner filed documents making the change late last month.

Members of Wood's family tell TMZ ... detectives from the L.A. County Sheriff's Department -- which has reopened the death investigation -- paid them a visit earlier today informing them of the change. They tell us ... detectives told them the change was made in part because some of the bruises on Wood's body were inconsistent with death by drowning.

Family members add ... they were told at this point authorities can't prove definitively Wood's death was accidental or the result of foul play. Detectives did tell family members Wood's death was definitely from drowning, but the way she ended up in the water is unclear.

Wood died November 29, 1981 after an alcohol-fueled party on a boat off Catalina with Robert Wagner and Christopher Walken on board.

Law enforcement sources tell us their investigation is still active.

I wonder if they will ever figure out exactly what happened that night.

I just rewatched Splendor in the Grass the other day. she was so beautiful.
minderbinder 7th-Jul-2012 01:01 am (UTC)
She was stunning in that movie. Both her and Warren Beatty.

she was so so beautiful. she made me like my brown eyes and brown hair when i was a little girl.

One of my faves. <333
mellarks 7th-Jul-2012 01:00 am (UTC)
I don't think we'll ever really know, because I don't think Wagner or Walken will ever speak of it. Maybe on their deathbed and only if the other had already passed, but I doubt it.
vehiclesshockme 7th-Jul-2012 01:01 am (UTC)
I wonder what will come out (even if it's total bs) when either one of them dies to be honest.
mellarks 7th-Jul-2012 01:06 am (UTC)
It'd be interesting. One of them is definitely covering for the other IMO and I refuse to believe Walken did it.

I feel bad for Natalie's family. Maybe they could get some fucking closure if someone would open their mouth. I still don't have closure about the circumstances around a family member of mine who drowned but I'm pretty sure there were no witnesses so this scenario is even more maddening
burning_disco 7th-Jul-2012 01:00 am (UTC)
ONTD, do er think Wagner did it? I refuse to believe Walken did it.
flaca 7th-Jul-2012 01:03 am (UTC)
wagner most definitely murdered her, 100% in my mind. i don't think walken had any part in it, but i do think he is covering for him.
mellarks 7th-Jul-2012 01:04 am (UTC)
I feel the same way.
minderbinder 7th-Jul-2012 01:05 am (UTC)
Mte. With so few people on the boat, there's no way Walken isn't covering for Wagner/doesn't actually know what happened.
vehiclesshockme 7th-Jul-2012 01:06 am (UTC)
Yeah I think Walken is covering too. He has to know. I wonder what his reasoning is.
emmapcz 7th-Jul-2012 01:08 am (UTC)
yup
handsdowntoo 7th-Jul-2012 01:11 am (UTC)
Agreed. I think Wagner did it. Walken knew and covered for it.. and at this point even if he has a conscience about it he won't speak out because it would mean he could be prosecuted for his role.
vehiclesshockme 7th-Jul-2012 01:04 am (UTC)
I think so. Maybe not intentionally but there's so much stuff that just seems weird about that night. Plus after Natalie died he pretty much forbid her family from talking to Natasha and Courtney ever again.
josiefier 7th-Jul-2012 01:10 am (UTC)
I tend to believe that if Wagner didn't outright murder her, then he at least didn't do anything to help her whether because he didn't want to or couldn't given how much he had been drinking.
hoot 7th-Jul-2012 01:40 am (UTC)
I think he had something to do with her death, I don't think he intentionally killed her though.
jeugd1 7th-Jul-2012 02:05 am (UTC)
I think Walken did it, he looks crazy

idk I just don't think either of them have it in them to kill some one or cover it up for all these years but then I don't personally know them.
stephsayss 7th-Jul-2012 03:50 am (UTC)
Wagner did and Walken is covering for him. Dennis was for a while but now he's speaking out.
ilouboutin 7th-Jul-2012 04:24 am (UTC)
i think Wagner did it but was too drunk to remember/claim it
leopard_legs 7th-Jul-2012 05:38 pm (UTC)
I think Walken's covering something up, but I don't think he did anything. I refuse to believe he did anything, because I adore Christopher Walken.

I know this is a late reply, but I wanted to share something I remember reading on this site quite a long time ago.

Many, many years ago on ONTD there was a post about Hollywood conspiracy theories. I'm not saying I actually believe any of it was true, but it stuck in my mind because I had never heard that there were any questions regarding Natalie Wood's death until that post. Granted, I had never had any interest in reading up on it either, until I started seeing her family in the news begging for the truth about her death.

I don't remember when it was posted and I think it might have actually been a source in the post (tbh I just do not remember), but the conspiracy was that Walken was spotted miles away, across town in a hotel room with Natalie the night she died. I don't really remember anything else, just that Natalie's death wasn't an accident but was made to look like one to cover up the real reason she was killed. If anyone can find that post, I'm sure it would be a really interesting read in light of the current situation. I love a good conspiracy!
josiefier 7th-Jul-2012 01:00 am (UTC)
And this is how the old school keeps a secret a secret. They NEVER talk about it. So fucked up and so sad.

considering all the terrible things that are known about old hollywood imagining what is still kept secret is slightly terrifying.

wagner killed her.

drunk and on painkillers she still would never had left her bed in the middle of the night to go check the dinghy or whatever bullshit robert said.

Yeah there's no way.

rosey2812 7th-Jul-2012 01:07 am (UTC)
She was STUNNING. I hate that Walken is involved in this obvious cover up for Wagner.
goldengirl66 7th-Jul-2012 01:13 am (UTC)
i don't understand why he is covering up for him, maybe it's true what the captain said and he was playing music really loudly and didn't hear anything. Walken obviously wanted to be with Natalie and disliked Wagner.... so, so odd
mellarks 7th-Jul-2012 01:21 am (UTC)
Old Hollywood was so messy and it's been so long now, it might be hard for him to come out and say something. Or Wagner has something on him he's been able to hold against him for his silence. If, you know, Wagner did it.
loonyluna26 7th-Jul-2012 01:58 am (UTC)
If he disliked him so much why was he even at that party? And stuck on a boat? Sounds like an awkward, tense night to me.
ilouboutin 7th-Jul-2012 04:32 am (UTC)
i'm sure wagner probably threatened the. shit. out of him. he was probably traumatized as well.
emmapcz 7th-Jul-2012 01:08 am (UTC)

Ugh goodness she was so stunning.
ohyoudo 7th-Jul-2012 01:12 am (UTC)
I always forget Christopher Walken was part of that mess. Man, he probably knows what happened. Maybe he killed her himself D:
anbyrobanby 7th-Jul-2012 01:16 am (UTC)
wasn't there some kind of blind item about her re: when she was young and starting her career? I may be thinking of someone else, but... hmm
betelgeuse 7th-Jul-2012 01:18 am (UTC)
probably. she had a sad life.
false_hate 7th-Jul-2012 01:21 am (UTC)
You mean the rumor about her being raped by Kirk Douglas?
anna_karenina_x 7th-Jul-2012 01:22 am (UTC)
Yes, when she was a teenager she was raped by a major Hollywood star of the time.

Even with rumors aside, she had the most awful childhood. :*(
handsdowntoo 7th-Jul-2012 01:58 am (UTC)
The rumor was out there long before the BI this year. I was surprised people acted like that was new information. I know I read about it 10+ years ago.
peddlestools 7th-Jul-2012 01:17 am (UTC)
christopher walken did it
marvelhill 7th-Jul-2012 05:38 am (UTC)
O_O
pixiedivision 7th-Jul-2012 02:52 pm (UTC)
what do you think this means? :/
mankini 9th-Jul-2012 07:23 pm (UTC)
Late reply. I read the book "Natasha" by Suzanne Finstad and it really had a lot of insight into Natalie's life and what happened that night. The book made me believe that Wagner did it. I think it was probably second degree, and that maybe she fell in but he was fully aware and refused to help her, instead mocking her.
