Reese Witherspoon on the Devil's Knot set

Reese Witherspoon shows off her growing baby bump in a polka-dotted dress on the set of her new film Devil’s Knot on Saturday (June 30) in Atlanta, Ga.

The 36-year-old pregnant actress plays the role of Pam Hobbs, the mother of one of the boys killed in the infamous West Memphis 3 killings.

True Blood‘s Stephen Moyer just joined the cast as prosecutor John Fogelman in the film about the wrongfully convicted and imprisoned West Memphis 3, according to Deadline.

Colin Firth and The Killing‘s Mireille Enos also star in the flick set for release in 2013.

This was/is such a sad case..
klutzy_girl 1st-Jul-2012 01:24 am (UTC)
So, how are they hiding this in the movie? Are they strategically putting stuff in front of her? The character can't be pregnant since she was a real person.

Also, despite the early '90s dresses, Reese looks pretty good.

And this case is so sad and horrifying.

Maybe they'd photoshop her waist? It'd be pretty expensive to do that, I know.
snortingcoke 1st-Jul-2012 01:37 am (UTC)
pretend she's just fat?
xtinkerbellax 1st-Jul-2012 03:21 am (UTC)
lol that's what I assumed.
starswept 1st-Jul-2012 07:55 am (UTC)
But again, she's portraying a real person, and that real person is very thin (or at least she was during the time this movie is set, I don't know about now).

Yeah, I'm surprised she didn't drop out of this film for that reason (plus I would imagine this isn't a pleasant subject to deal with when you're expecting a new baby and also have a child the same age as these boys were). I hope it doesn't end up being like Vanity Fair, where she was obviously pregnant when she wasn't supposed to be and was constantly hauling around rolled-up carpets and other objects to try and hide her stomach. It's one thing to do that on a TV show where you can't just recast the role; it's much less acceptable for a movie. Plus in Vanity Fair the outfits of that period allowed for empire waists (not that they were very effective, her pregnancy was still pretty clear), which isn't the case for Devil's Knot. It'll be interesting to see what they've decided to do.

I'm surprised a movie hasn't been made before. I did see the documentary though
tobreakfree 1st-Jul-2012 01:25 am (UTC)
this whole story still pisses me off.
cuteej4 1st-Jul-2012 01:29 am (UTC)
I'm glad it's being made and that Peter Jackson was so adamant about getting things off the ground
perfecthorror 1st-Jul-2012 01:47 am (UTC)
This is something different. I think you're thinking of West of Memphis, which I'm really excited about seeing.
cuteej4 1st-Jul-2012 01:50 am (UTC)
Well damn. I am thinking of the West of Memphis. I know he helped make the documentary and then he said he wanted to continue the documentary after that.

docilelamb 1st-Jul-2012 01:31 am (UTC)
I never heard of this case before, but I just looked it up and wow it's heartbreaking :(
docilelamb 1st-Jul-2012 01:32 am (UTC)
also: she looks really different here (little makeup) I didn't recognize it was her until I saw her chin.. lol
expromqueen 1st-Jul-2012 01:36 am (UTC)
hbo did 3 documentaries over the yrs about the case...they're called paradise lost and they're rly good. u can skip to the most recent one from 2011, it has back story, and it was being filmed when the three men were released in 2011
mammary_glands 1st-Jul-2012 01:34 am (UTC)

little_kitkat 1st-Jul-2012 01:35 am (UTC)
I can't imagine being pregnant in that heat, ughhhhhh.
la_sikka 1st-Jul-2012 01:37 am (UTC)
i feel bad for her being pregnant in this heat, IT WAS 106 DEGREES TODAY WHAT THE FUCK
shinebrighter 1st-Jul-2012 02:00 am (UTC)
exactly what i came in here to post! it was so freakin hot today!
kdvn 1st-Jul-2012 01:42 am (UTC)
A movie version is so completely pointless when we have the incredible footage of the real thing. Ugh.
perfecthorror 1st-Jul-2012 01:54 am (UTC)
Plus it's a "fictional reinterpretation". It's kind of strange tbh because Jessie and Jason are producers, but Damien wants nothing to do with it.
roguewave3 1st-Jul-2012 01:58 am (UTC)
Are the guys getting paid for this film being made? Because if so it's not pointless.
perfecthorror 1st-Jul-2012 02:15 am (UTC)
Jessie and Jason are.
romp 1st-Jul-2012 06:26 am (UTC)
Yeah, I'm trying to wrap my head around that. Wouldn't a movie want a clear villain and justice in the end? If it's going to be unclear/unjust, might as well stick with the documentaries.
perfecthorror 1st-Jul-2012 01:44 am (UTC)
This movie is going to be shitty.
stentorianyell 1st-Jul-2012 01:45 am (UTC)
glad they're finally making a big budget movie. everyone should know about this case.
jess_sayin 1st-Jul-2012 01:56 am (UTC)
wow I had no idea they were making a movie about this case...much less with Reese witherspoon.
whoa...sad case all the way around..

btw I have looked far and low and CANNOT find the third and final installment of this documentary.
xathxenax 1st-Jul-2012 03:29 am (UTC)
It's currently streaming on HBO Go.
jess_sayin 1st-Jul-2012 03:37 am (UTC)
It's literally the only place I have seen it avail....and for the life of me I cannot get hbo go to stream for me. Im a legit member of hbo!
plaidpineapple 1st-Jul-2012 01:58 am (UTC)
To anyone curious and wanting to watch the documentary: Really think about it. Especially if you have kids. It is graphic and heartwrenching and...fuck. Just a few minutes of it had me in a complete meltdown.

shinebrighter 1st-Jul-2012 01:59 am (UTC)
OMG poor thing, it was the hottest day on record ever in Atlanta today. So miserable
jollygoodthat 1st-Jul-2012 02:47 am (UTC)
seriously, i went outside for like 10 mins and thought I was going to die. smh at those fools sitting in the sun at the braves game this afternoon, too.
