Tax-Factor Going To Court While Being Fierce In New Jersey



Lauryn Hill put on her game face and this interesting get up to head to court for tax evasion in New Jersey Friday.
According to TMZ reports, the singer has already plead guilty:
Lauryn Hill just pled guilty to a major federal crime … admitting she intentionally failed to file several tax returns in the past decade — and now the former Fugees singer faces 3 years in prison.
Hill pled guilty today to three counts of failure to file tax returns for the years 2005, 2006, and 2007 — when she earned more than $1.8 million.
When the judge asked if Hill “intentionally and willingly” failed to file the returns, she replied, “Yes.”
In addition to the 3 years behind bars, Hill could be smacked with $75,000 in fines.
Hill was released on $150,000 bail. Her sentencing hearing is set for November.

I'm going to need to see the receipts. That's a pretty heavy and serious accusation you put out against her (no offense to you in particular). But it moves into the lander/libel territory if you don't have info to back it up

The full thing is on her tumblr. It doesn't make a lick of sense. I don't know how her quest for spiritual growth and love of art prevents her from paying her taxes, but not from collecting and spending the money.

As much as I agree with the idea that "taxation is theft", it's still a law and it pisses me off when people willingly break laws without a good reason. Bend them slightly? I don't care as much. Like, if you're going 5 over the speed limit... yay. Significantly more than that and you're an asshole. Tax evasion? I don't care as much when you owe them $20, but if you have a ton of money, you can afford an accountant to handle your money and set aside the appropriate amount for taxes if they're not being taken directly from your paychecks. You'd think that whole threat of going to jail would be enough to keep people paying taxes, and that they'd be smart enough to realize that if they make a lot of money, they're the ones who will be noticed.

She's still pretty flawfree, though.

i don't think she can be let into canada if she has a felony on her record, you can't even get in if you have DUI. :/ maybe it's different if you're a celeb though, idk lol.
