what ever happened to that girl group that Kris was supposedly managing?? they just disappeared off the face of the earth.

imnotasquirrel 28th-Jun-2012 06:51 pm (UTC)
a science fiction story? oy.

i think they'd do better with fantasy, at least they don't have to try and explain how something would be possible. they could just excuse it with, "MAGIC!"
saltireflower 28th-Jun-2012 06:51 pm (UTC)
More like a ghostwriter is writing a book for them lbr.
patito18 28th-Jun-2012 06:52 pm (UTC)

fruitchews 28th-Jun-2012 06:56 pm (UTC)
I would read this and make it my coffee table book of the year. Make sure to include people being terrified to walk home alone because of the Diana Jenkins secret police everywhere.

drypumpernickel Well-written YA, guys?28th-Jun-2012 06:57 pm (UTC)
I will defend the merits of this genre anytime but I have to admit haters have got major points about a lot of YA being derivative and mostly shitty.
So list the good YA novels you've read, guys?

Some of the ones I've read this year:
Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver (well, I read it last year but I found it so good I'll just list it here)
anything by Melina Marchetta, pretty much
The Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins (though I did side-eye the male lead a lot)
A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness (childrens? idk)
Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson

politic_ennui Re: Well-written YA, guys?28th-Jun-2012 08:26 pm (UTC)
It's a classic, but Anne of Green Gables.
sakichi Re: Well-written YA, guys?28th-Jun-2012 11:24 pm (UTC)
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo was the most recent YA I've read and it was above average. =D
ladyserenity84 28th-Jun-2012 06:58 pm (UTC)
This is one of those few times I say "Oh hell no." I have a feeling it might end up being more fantasy than sci-fi, but we'll have to see how it goes.

In the meantime, I'm going to be pouring my efforts even more in my WIPs and if I can't go trad publishing, I might as well self-pub and promote the heck out of it.
muffledlaugh 28th-Jun-2012 06:59 pm (UTC)
These girls won't be writing anything, lbr.

The publishing company is going to slap their names ('Kardashian' at that) on the cover and then hustle them into stores to sell it.
foxylov3r 28th-Jun-2012 07:00 pm (UTC)
i feel like steph meyer started this trend of really not writing that well or having a good plot or anything but marketing it for teens and having them gobble it up

I get that the young adult area in the market has never been amazing literature but I don't remember it being like it is now with all these celebs writing books and fanfic becoming books until after twilight.
reidacted 28th-Jun-2012 07:05 pm (UTC)
fanfic becoming books until after twilight

I'm still pressed about this.

chuk_is_dazzled 28th-Jun-2012 07:08 pm (UTC)
yep, which is really sad
ladyserenity84 28th-Jun-2012 07:10 pm (UTC)
YA tends to be a blend of excellent and meh with many titles between, but I think in more recent years, the quality has declined significantly. It's become more of a race to see who will produce the next Twilight/Hunger Games/Harry Potter rather than being a platform upon which writers can have multiple jumping points and diversity in terms of content.
drypumpernickel 28th-Jun-2012 07:20 pm (UTC)
Exactly. It's depressing.
iamtheliquorr 28th-Jun-2012 07:50 pm (UTC)
Exactly. I think Twilight proved how much of a cash cow YA is and everyone is jumping on the bandwagon
in_styles 28th-Jun-2012 07:02 pm (UTC)
LOL. So basically Kris is going to hire some basic bitch writer and these girls will give like two "ideas" and they will act like they wrote the book. Rme.

I can't get over how they did the eyes and the hair. Is it contacts or a mask that's blended in really well with the neck?
poop_of_death 28th-Jun-2012 07:08 pm (UTC)
I'm thinking very good blending

ladyserenity84 Re: ONTD Writers28th-Jun-2012 07:12 pm (UTC)
Still working on the WIPs I started about a year or two ago. I'm going through the re-write/editing process. I really want to publish these before the end of the year.
misscrystal25 Re: ONTD Writers28th-Jun-2012 07:17 pm (UTC)
My debut novel.
_scarlett_icons Re: ONTD Writers28th-Jun-2012 07:33 pm (UTC)
Two stories.

One fantasy about leprechauns trying to take over the world. One Sci-Fi about a girl sucked into an alternate reality by an alien-like fugitive.
theratwhispers Re: ONTD Writers28th-Jun-2012 07:36 pm (UTC)
A supernatural/Gothic dramady satire

Yeah, that is as close to a "genre" as I have figured out.
arcee8 28th-Jun-2012 07:51 pm (UTC)
My second novel after my first self-published ebook: The Less You Know. Woo!
little_kitkat Re: ONTD Writers28th-Jun-2012 08:11 pm (UTC)
I'm working on a coming of age novel for middle grades. (I know, not much description, but there you have it) I'm basically writing about one of my real life experiences through the eyes of a young girl.
illicituss Re: ONTD Writers28th-Jun-2012 08:31 pm (UTC)
A gothic horror inspired by the Georgian house where my family-friend/babysitter and her children lived and I spent most of my childhood; avoiding the weirdly steep stairs to the attic, the forever-locked door to the drawing room and the courtyard/guesthouse that supposedly used to be part of our town's first hospital's morgue in the 1700s.

So far it's just an anthology of my experiences in the house plus a few fabricated that the characters experience, and so far has no real discernible... plot points, I guess.
kdvn Re: ONTD Writers28th-Jun-2012 10:33 pm (UTC)
Contemporary YA with a gay main character. Like John Green or Stephanie Perkins... but queer.
sakichi Re: ONTD Writers28th-Jun-2012 11:41 pm (UTC)
I've got quite a number of WIP. So far, I have three series planned (with possibly a novella or short story to go along with at least one of them) and a standalone novel.

The first series (which I just recently finished the outline of) is high fantasy and I've started the first draft. The second is an urban fantasy (I've outlined this one like crazy) and have 50+ pages done so far. The third is still currently in the planning process and takes place in a post-apocalyptic world (definitely not dystopia, though.) The standalone will be an experiment in psychological horror, which is a genre I don't usually write in. But I have a great idea for it, so I hope I can pull it off to some degree. ^^;
