Katy Perry has said that she wanted to inspire people with her new documentary Katy Perry: Part of Me.
The 'Wide Awake' singer opened up about choosing to include some difficult moments in the film, including her divorce from Russell Brand.
"In my personal struggle, you see me not changing and not giving up on this dream that I've had my whole life," Perry told MTV News. "Hopefully people are inspired by that," she continued. "You don't always see me with all the gorgeous lighting and make-up on and all that. I think it's fine.
"Hollywood is so fake and people need to realize that people are just people, and you, too, don't need to be born into something or have money or have whatever product someone is hawking on you," she explained. "Find out what your gift is and nurture it."
The 27-year-old recently confessed that she used to "smack [her]self across the face" backstage at concerts to stave off tears from the pain of her divorce.
Katy Perry: Part of Me will be released on July 5.
