Russell Brand Now Owns a Gun

Russell Brand has revealed that he now owns a gun.

The British comedian explained that he decided to purchase a gun after moving to Los Angeles, despite his mother telling him not to.

"I've been learning to fire guns. My mother said, 'Don't learn to fire guns, Russell'," he is quoted as saying in The Sun. "Well, I've learnt and now I've got one. I mean, me, own a gun? I shouldn't really have access to hair gel but I can fire a gun if I need to."

Brand also joked that he finds guns "cool", and said it made him feel like a Hollywood legend.

"To be honest, guns are fun. When I was learning I was firing all over the place - obviously not at people but I was hitting all these targets. I felt like John Wayne," he commented.

Russell Brand was described as a "strange" but "wonderful" man by the Dalai Lama when they met over the weekend. The actor can currently be seen in musical comedy Rock of Ages, alongside Alec Baldwin and Tom Cruise.

This is prob an unpopular opinion on ONTD, but idc.

I went shooting with friends a couple of times, and I really want a gun.

But I'd probably get something small with cheap ammo so I can go to the range and really use it mostly for sport like a .22

klmnumbers 19th-Jun-2012 06:47 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I'm a little scared to buy one because the fact that they can be so dangerous is a serious turn off. I have a good friend who owns a few guns, and he keeps trying to explain that if you know what you're doing they are completely safe and that he would take the time to really sit with me and explain all the mechanics and how to take care of it.

I really might get one this fall.

The last time I went to a range, I got to shoot a revolver. I loved it, haha
wigglybob 19th-Jun-2012 06:51 pm (UTC)
I def agree with this. You probs feel the same way, but I hate how glamorized they are in the media.
pushpoplove 19th-Jun-2012 06:47 pm (UTC)
i could see a .22 for sport but not for protection

a .22 would just piss off the person breaking into your house

I want a gun too. But it's only cool up until you walk outside and a gang war is happening.
anolinde 19th-Jun-2012 06:51 pm (UTC)
I'd love to learn how to shoot. Idk if I'd buy a gun - maybe if I were living alone - but it'd be good to at least know how (as well as how a gun works, lol).
nobodynomore 19th-Jun-2012 06:57 pm (UTC)
I learned to shoot a handgun & a rifle, and I have to admit, it is a lot of fun. If a person learns proper gun safety and technique, I don't mind it for a pasttime as well as home protection. But some guy and his wife buying a gun for protection with no training...freaks me out.
flyingpigs_live 19th-Jun-2012 07:02 pm (UTC)
My dad has a bunch of guns from when he and my grandfather always went hunting back in the 70's (yes, I know), and from when he was part of a target club. And he taught me how to use them all. I've gone to shooting ranges before, it's really fun.
16_bit_goddess 19th-Jun-2012 07:06 pm (UTC)
you're not alone bb! I like guns and idegaf. I'm responsible and I like knowing I have a means to defend myself should anyone (god forbid) break into my house.
lespapillons 19th-Jun-2012 07:25 pm (UTC)
Nah. My boyfriend and I go shooting at our local range weekly. It's fun, and they're safe when handled properly.
semisquare 19th-Jun-2012 07:25 pm (UTC)
If you're looking for a fun .22 (which is what I learned my gun basics/safety on), I would recommend the Beretta Neos. I know a lot of people swear by Rugers (and the Mark II/Mark IIIs are good guns indeed), but my Neos is super easy to break down and clean, super fun to shoot (great ergonomics), and very reliable. Plus, you can get 555 rounds for less than $20! (And the gun itself isn't super expensive either.)

Honestly, YouTube has a lot of great gun-related videos that help you learn the basics of breaking down/cleaning guns, but for basic gun safety, have a responsible friend teach you or take a class. Once you learn proper trigger discipline and get over the initial nerves (I had plenty), shooting is a great hobby.
numbedtoe 19th-Jun-2012 08:01 pm (UTC)
I love to shoot. it is fun and relaxing, and when handled right a gun is a tool and needs respect.

but I won't have a gun in the house. not because i'm super gun control (though i'd ban assault weapons and gun show sales if i could) but because i have several major health problems and know eventually that night would come when i'd act because i was sick of it. since i've had a few of those already and had to tough it out until morning.

but as long as people know the difference, and it sounds like you do, between a tool, and something used to make you feel badass, and "solve" problems, guns are ok. some ranges, idk where you are bb, let you store your gun there, if you felt weird about having it locked up at home. and some rent handguns too, for the range.
jenncho 19th-Jun-2012 09:17 pm (UTC)
We have several in our house and everyone is properly licensed and trained to use them. I enjoy going shooting but prefer rifles to hand guns. I know some people who gave me a lot of shit for owning a gun but then I heard they went to a range and were raving about how much fun they had.

Is there a lot of photoshop in that picture? Because he actually looks pretty good and I usually think he looks like Skeletor.
hiclasslowlife 19th-Jun-2012 06:49 pm (UTC)
i think it's an older photo, that's possibly why
sastra_fuss 19th-Jun-2012 06:44 pm (UTC)
I want to get a handgun license but I'm not ready to purchase a gun. Maybe if I lived alone. Gotta be prepared for the zombie apocalypse...
distant_lines 19th-Jun-2012 06:45 pm (UTC)
I'm from the South, but I am just not a fan of guns. I do not like our Second Amendment.
shangman 19th-Jun-2012 06:46 pm (UTC)
Guns scare the shit out of me. Was in Victoria Station earlier and there were some police with guns walking around and it was so creepy.
ghost_busting 19th-Jun-2012 06:56 pm (UTC)
When I was at the Houses of Parliament there were police with rifles and machine guns just casually strolling around. So weird.
gramfaernes 19th-Jun-2012 07:10 pm (UTC)
I have never seen a real gun in person in my life. I'm fine with that.
kurtvonnegut 19th-Jun-2012 07:12 pm (UTC)
wut????

gurl come to america and you won't even blink twice at seeing one.
x_butterfly19_x 19th-Jun-2012 07:20 pm (UTC)
same. Unless they were carried by police and then it's not really an up close look and doesn't really count
jtaps 20th-Jun-2012 03:08 am (UTC)
everything scares you, Joffrey
redhobbit 19th-Jun-2012 06:46 pm (UTC)
Never understood men who think that guns make them feel more masculine or powerful, or a legend. Lacking something much?
kapuki234 19th-Jun-2012 06:46 pm (UTC)
Ive always wanted a gun.

With all the recent gun violence in Toronto, though, I'm not too sure anymore.
holypotatoes1 19th-Jun-2012 07:07 pm (UTC)
Unless you're planning on joining in on the gun violence I don't see what the problem with you getting a gun would be.
kapuki234 19th-Jun-2012 11:58 pm (UTC)
they're scary, not protective.
snapiphany 19th-Jun-2012 06:47 pm (UTC)
I'd like to visit a shooting range sometime in the future and just shoot a gun. See if I can actually hit the target. But owning one? No thanks. And guns, fun? Double no fuck no.
crazyfirecrotch 19th-Jun-2012 06:47 pm (UTC)

he has potential but he's flopped so bad here.
my_badgers_27 19th-Jun-2012 06:47 pm (UTC)
