I just started watching the show yesterday because I was home sick and watched every episode except for the finale. I had low expectations but I actually really LOVE the show, although I despise Hannah with a PASSION. She is fucking awful.
haha! i did the exact same thing yesterday except i watched all the episodes and i feel the exact same way about the show. and hannah is fucking annoying, but i can relate to her self-esteem issues/being too judgey. not good qualities, but i can relate.
I know this is a day late or w/e, but one thing the article doesn't make very clear is that he transferred to and graduated from Juilliard after his freshman year at U of I.
Every good thing about Adam as a character I totally credit to his performance. No one else could have someone as creepy and hypocritical as him borderline likeable.
I LOATHE HANNAH. I would rather have a fucking tea party with Bella Swan and Rick Santorum and then have angry hate sex with Rush Limbaugh on a cold kitchen floor than spend a SECOND breathing the same air as Hannah. I hate her.
I feel like I'm the only one who likes Hannah and isn't upset that she's not 105lbs/6 feet tall/gorgeous. Isn't it just tiring seeing the same old crap on tv? This show and its flawed protag is refreshing imo.
I like Adam, but he can be a serious dick to Hannah. I think if she were conventionally pretty people would have more sympathy for her.
I like that Hannah is (extremely) flawed. It's obvious she's meant to be annoying and not exactly endearing (at least I've never translated any of her actions to be that, sincere or selfless, etc.). She's not my favorite character on Girls, but I don't hate her. In fact, there are many elements about her that I relate to.
yeah, she is definitely relatable. it's refreshing in that you don't see characters like her on other shows very often (or ever). she is annoying as hell, but she is a good character.
this this this this girl is so in her own head. I feel like that end scene was probably a dream come true for her because it'd be something great to write about, which is why she wasn't hyperventilating over losing her purse.
I like her better than Marnie in that aspect. Marnie is so annoying, snobby and uptight about everything. Plus she treated that guy that shaved his hair like shit.
I personally like Adam more than Hannah, probably because Lena seems like a better writer than actress, but I don't know how people can think Hannah is so much more egregious than Adam.
I love that her appearance isn't perfect, and I do think it's rather important that they have someone like that on screen, and dare I say, quietly revolutionary?
Hannah is whiny, self-absorbed, childish, ungrateful, and daft. Most of the time I forget that she doesn't look like a model because her personality is so obnoxious.
I don't think she has to look like Blake Lively, I would just like her more if there was actual character development with Hannah. There isn't. Someone yells at Hannah; Hannah whines about herself; other person storms off. Rinse, repeat next week with a new character.
She doesn't even have to ~change~ and have it work out -- she could fuck up hugely like Jessa getting married on a whim, but it'd be more interesting than her whining. Instead we get her sitting on a beach stuffing her face.
This show and its flawed protag is refreshing imo Absolutely, I totally agree. She's flawed but that's what makes her and the show interesting and, like you say, refreshing. She's not my favourite character but I like watching her story.
It has nothing to do with her appearance, it's her god awful personality and most of us hate her probably because we know someone like her irl (I know I do)
I think the Hannah/Adam relationship is sort of creepy since it follows that trend of telling women that just stick it out with that assholey, jerkwad of a dude and he'll magically reveal his tortured pain and somehow retroactively make him a decent person. And this is coming from somebody who prefers Adam over Hannah in the long run.
Overall, the show is good. It's just not nearly as revolutionary as critics like to pretend and, in its own way, is just as stylized/distorted as Sex and the City ever was.
Ever since the Brooklyn party, I've started hating the costume changes. Like I really don't think what Jessa was wearing was realistic, and it's making it seem more like SatC.
Love everyone else though.
Shoshanna forever though.
I like him more than Big, tho.
We both went to U of I. I only went because it was a free ride. ~What's his excuse?

i understand your irrational hatred for her. shes the worst.

She is just so self obsessed and whiny and absolutely dresses like shit and it irks me.
thats all :)

He would be far better without Hannah, though.
Also i wish people would stop comparing this show to SATC. They're both great shows but Girls is not the next SATC. It's its own show imo.
