In a glowing article last year, they described her as the ‘most magnetic of First Ladies’ and ‘a rose in the desert’.

But following the recent atrocities in Syria, Vogue have now withdrawn their support for President Bashir’s wife Asma Al-Assad.

‘Like many at that time, we were hopeful that the Assad regime would be open to a more progressive society,’ said Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. ‘Subsequent to our interview, as the terrible events of the past year and a half unfolded in Syria, it became clear that its priorities and values were completely at odds with those of Vogue. The escalating atrocities in Syria are unconscionable and we deplore the actions of the Assad regime in the strongest possible terms.’

According to the New York Times , the feature in French Vogue in March 2011 was part of a public relations campaign from the Assad regime. Asma was raised in the UK and moved to Syria after meeting her husband while he was training in London.

The situation in Syria is now at crisis point. Earlier this month, 49 children were murdered in the town of Houla. United Nations investigators suspect the massacre was carried out by loyalist gunmen.

Some are suspecting that she's only doing it because she wants to be named U.S. ambassador to Britain.

From Wikipedia

UNICEF reported that over 500 children have been killed. Another 400 children have been reportedly arrested and tortured in Syrian prisons.

What in the actual fuck? What is even the point of torturing children!?!??!

not only in Houla, the regime had hundreds of children die in the country. i was so frustrated cause no one was doing anything at the time when everyday the protesters had a video to upload of injured/dead Syrian kids.
