Pregnant Snooki "Scared" to Breastfeed: "It's Like You're a Cow"

Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi is adjusting well to pregnancy, except for one thing -- breastfeeding!
The Jersey Shore star, who is expecting her first child with fiance Jionni LaValle, gave an update on her pregnancy to Good Morning America on Monday. Snooki has changed her fist-pumping ways to prepare for the birth of her son, but she's still struggling with the idea of the idea of nursing her baby-to-be, a boy.

"I'm just scared," Snooki, 24, explained to GMA. "My friend did and she said it was so painful…but I definitely want to pump because it's the best nutrients for the baby."
However, she doesn't love the idea of pumping either: "It's kind of like you're a cow and you're just milking."

But the Jersey Shore party girl has, of course, stopped drinking.
"All my friends are like, 'You can have a glass of wine.' I'm like, 'No.' I refuse because I'm going to be that person that has a glass of wine and [the] baby comes out with three legs."

And, as she previously announced on Twitter, she's stopped tanning. "I'm actually embracing the paleness," Snooki said. "It's kind of a new look."

Snooki, who is nearly seven months pregnant, and LaValle, 24, also shared the name they plan on giving their son. "I think we're going to do 'Lorenzo,' " Snooki said. "Because then you can call him 'Enzo.' "

One thing Snooki did not address during her interview was her recent nude photo scandal. Pre-pregnancy naked photos of the star were leaked over the weekend and Snooki's rep told Us Weekly, "Clearly these are old and personal photos that were not meant for the public. It's a shame someone decided to leak them for obvious personal gain."

well, she's a first time mother and scared shitless... idg the hate rn
elizabear 11th-Jun-2012 08:13 pm (UTC)
Hate to be serious in a post like this, but honestly - if breastfeeding hurts, talk to a lactation consultant. I breastfed both of my kids for a long time and I was fine. It's not supposed to hurt, and they may be able to help.
celica18l 11th-Jun-2012 08:20 pm (UTC)
Exactly. Breastfeeding makes you sore for a couple of weeks but is so much easier than formula.
juryrig 11th-Jun-2012 08:58 pm (UTC)
Not longterm, anyway. My exact pain cutoff was 3 weeks - after that, smooth sailing. Prior to that, I questioned my choice to stick with it.
bellwetherr 11th-Jun-2012 09:02 pm (UTC)
i mean, every body is different and i know some women where the pain didn't stop even after consultation.
muzicnem 11th-Jun-2012 08:13 pm (UTC)
I feel like lately people are treating breast feeding as like this trendy, mysterious, new age thing...that's only been done by humankind since the beginning of our species.
brucelynn 11th-Jun-2012 08:14 pm (UTC)
you ain't lying
vehiclesshockme 11th-Jun-2012 08:15 pm (UTC)
Pretty much.
sweet_honesty 11th-Jun-2012 08:17 pm (UTC)
hah, right?
hawaii_bombay 11th-Jun-2012 08:18 pm (UTC)
Seriously; and that's pretty much what breasts are for.
supernature_971 11th-Jun-2012 08:18 pm (UTC)
lol ikr
judgmental 11th-Jun-2012 08:20 pm (UTC)
I mean, yes, you are right but not every woman is comfortable with the idea of breastfeeding/pregnancy and it's just recently that they can speak more freely about how they really feel about the subject.

Could you imagine if a woman said something about how much they disliked the idea of having a child just a few decades ago? THE RAGE! How dare they, that is what women are supposed to do!
rinygrin 11th-Jun-2012 08:22 pm (UTC)
Even today people still flip their shit if you announce your lack of interest in having kids, at least when a woman says it, men can always be bachelors 4 life. :(

The BF stuff is so confusing US women of many generations. I was born in the 1970s and my mom wanted to bf me, but the doctor was horrified and said that if she did that, she'd have to go find a different pediatrician, because he would't be a part of such a barbaric practice when there was formula that was available that was a hundred times better for the baby. She was young and he made her feel stupid, so of course she bottle-fed me.

Me, I had a baby a few years ago and I did not want to bf for various reasons...but I could have. My doctor wasn't aghast either way!

mte idegi
vanishingbee 11th-Jun-2012 09:19 pm (UTC)
it's because formula was more popular for a long while
judgmental 11th-Jun-2012 08:14 pm (UTC)
I wonder how they're going to name their little guido monster
pancakesex 11th-Jun-2012 08:15 pm (UTC)
"I think we're going to do 'Lorenzo,' " Snooki said. "Because then you can call him 'Enzo.' "

This made me lol, idk why
judgmental 11th-Jun-2012 08:16 pm (UTC)
lololol my bad

I refuse to read her interviews bc she's so annoying to me in any shape or form
ch33rylips 11th-Jun-2012 08:14 pm (UTC)
I love it, she's so honest about how she feels about it.
ascot_gavotte 11th-Jun-2012 08:14 pm (UTC)
breastfeeding just looks so....awkward. Maybe when I have a kid it'll be a ~bonding experience but idk just seems like just another stupid thing women have to go through.
juryrig 11th-Jun-2012 08:59 pm (UTC)
The hormones really help with the bonding, moreso than just seeing your kid nursing or whatever. Lots of positive reinforcement.
lordfoldemort 11th-Jun-2012 09:03 pm (UTC)
i don't like the idea of breastfeeding but i wouldn't call it just another stupid thing women have to go through
ascot_gavotte 11th-Jun-2012 09:15 pm (UTC)
you're right. breastfeeding itself isn't a "stupid thing" especially if you don't have formula and depend on the breast milk. I take umbrage when people start judging mothers for not breastfeeding and making them feel ashamed when it's a personal, individual issue.
isntdaveone 11th-Jun-2012 08:15 pm (UTC)
HOPEFULLY CPS or someone from the state will remove the baby from her and give it to worthy parents.
sweet_honesty 11th-Jun-2012 08:18 pm (UTC)
Girl, out of all the really horrible parents out there that abuse and neglect their children, you're worried about Snooki? Honestly, some of you need to sit down with this.
isntdaveone 11th-Jun-2012 08:19 pm (UTC)
NOPE I WILL NOT SIT DOWN GIRRRL.
naveedchick 11th-Jun-2012 08:15 pm (UTC)
I've never really liked milk. I don't even know if my mom breastfed me. Perhaps she made an attempt, but I just wouldn't eat anything they gave me until I was 4 months old when they finally put me on 2%. I still don't really like it now. Yeah, I use a bit in my coffee and if I need it to cook, but I wouldn't drink it just to drink it.
vehiclesshockme 11th-Jun-2012 08:21 pm (UTC)
Yeah I'm not a fan of milk either.
ourferocity 11th-Jun-2012 08:21 pm (UTC)
i didn't wanna nurse and then my mom tried formula and i always puked it up so she started feeding me different soups. i can't believe my newborn digestive system handled soup but it did. to this day i fucking hate milk.
naveedchick 11th-Jun-2012 08:38 pm (UTC)
I'm impressed. I've never heard of that before.
d00ditsemily 11th-Jun-2012 08:21 pm (UTC)
4 months old and on cow milk? Never really heard of that before.
janeeyre 11th-Jun-2012 08:24 pm (UTC)
idk, I think I'm developing a dairy allergy. any dairy products, my skin breaks out into a red rash.
hawaii_bombay 11th-Jun-2012 08:35 pm (UTC)
I only drink milk without lactose; othrwise I bloat like a balloon.
satellite__eyes 11th-Jun-2012 08:36 pm (UTC)
Milk is DISGUSTING. I've always hated it and I'm gaging just thinking about drinking it.
abortions 11th-Jun-2012 08:48 pm (UTC)
i hated milk growing up. the consistency was disgusting and my mom would make me and my sister drink a glass a day. my sister loved it but it would be a chore for me to finish it. anyway eventually my mom stopped forcing me to drink it but my sister still had up to 2 glasses a day. she got her period when she was 9, I got mine when I was 14. It could be related, idk.

Anyway I am now lactose intolerant. I feel vindicated for hating it.
shortliljackers 11th-Jun-2012 08:59 pm (UTC)
yeah, i don't like milk. i use it a lot to cook, and for dipping oreos, but i don't like drinking just milk.

i like chocolate and strawberry milk though.
anolinde 11th-Jun-2012 09:18 pm (UTC)
I don't like milk, either. The only time I drink it is with mac and cheese, lol.
vanishingbee 11th-Jun-2012 09:20 pm (UTC)
milk in the US is super nasty, but milk in canada is sooooo good.
nicenicegirl 11th-Jun-2012 10:21 pm (UTC)
i'm lactose intolerant anyway so i'm not supposed to have any dairy, altho once in a while i'll have cheese in small doses which i'm usually fine with.

my mother had to put me on soy formula when i was younger because i kept getting sick from her breast milk.
fluorescentx 11th-Jun-2012 08:17 pm (UTC)
I totally understand bc I would be soo freaked out in her position. First, she has something growing inside her, then she has to push it out of her vagina, then breastfeed it. As a first time mum her concern is valid imho.

Just because she doesn't want to do it now doesn't mean she won't change her mind when she's had the baby.
vehiclesshockme 11th-Jun-2012 08:22 pm (UTC)
I would be the worst pregnant woman ever because I'd probably somehow end up watching Alien, The Fly and Grace over and over and just spend the better part of nine months terrified of the creature growing inside of me.
fluorescentx 11th-Jun-2012 08:30 pm (UTC)
it freaks me out so much just thinking about it. and i can't think of any way my pain threshold will handle giving birth
normalchick 11th-Jun-2012 08:18 pm (UTC)
idk her comments seem pretty normal to me especially for a first time mother.
celica18l 11th-Jun-2012 08:18 pm (UTC)
God what an idiot.

Like we should expect anything better from her though.

I saw a Lysa Tully-esque situation the other day, at the zoo. That's my contribution to this thread.

pink_dog 11th-Jun-2012 08:42 pm (UTC)
how old do you think the kid was, and was it a boy or a girl? Was the mom attractive or dumpy, dressed well or dressed trashy? did she have lots of kids hanging around her or just the one? was she discreet about bf-ing her older kid, or was she trying to get noticed.

i want to get the picture juuuust right in my mind
bloblawslawblog 11th-Jun-2012 08:55 pm (UTC)
Boy, between around 5/6. The mom looked like

and was wearing mom shorts and a tank top, that she had hoisted up like a bawse. There was a preteen girl and a 3-ish year old girl sitting on the bench next to her. The (I think) husband was staring at the zoo map and kinda wandering around across the pathway.

I ate my snowcone 5 ft away with no regrets, because I wanted to figure out that family so bad. My bf went to go stare at some goose that was wandering around, because he was so uncomfortable.

Lysa Tully-esue situation
Excuse my ignorance, but what is that?

I'm 27 and didn't feel anything about what she said. No maternal instincts here.
bagelsvswaffles 11th-Jun-2012 08:29 pm (UTC)
How are there no maternal instincts? Because she compared breast pumping to a cow? She still said she was going to do that, "because it's the best nutrients for the baby." She's not tanning or drinking. Because she's not up to your ~standards of a mother she has no maternal instincts?

I don't think she's acting as bad as the Teen Moms yet. I've been watching that marathon all weekend.

But she had nudes leak? When did that happen?

We need more guy nudes tbh
lucciolaa 11th-Jun-2012 08:21 pm (UTC)
Probably the dumbest thing I've heard today.
