Former Lost star Henry Ian Cusick will not be returning for the second season of ABC's Scandal.
The actor and showrunner Shonda Rhimes came to the mutual decision for him not to come back for the second year of the D.C.-set political fixer drama, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. Rhimes and Cusick's parting was described as an amicabile split.
Cusick played Stephen Finch on Scandal, a charming ladies' man who used his (handsome) skillset as a member of Pope & Associates to obtain information for Kerry Washington's Olivia Pope.
While the character's back story was featured here and there, he was not a large part of the first season's central story line, which in addition to cases of the week featured the team working on a scandal connected to President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn).

Joshua Malina has been promoted to series regular for the second season of ABC's new hit series Scandal, TVGuide.com has learned exclusively.
Rhimes recently told TVGuide.com that there's a possibility that Olivia will get a new love interest in Season 2, but would not confirm nor deny whether that could be David. However, Washington believes they're better off as sparring partners.
"There's a lot of pressure about that on Twitter," Washington recently told us. "A lot of people are feeling that, but I don't know. I feel like he's such a good nemesis and an intellectual lover, in a way, that I'm not sure we want to consummate that."
For his part, Malina was all for a romance between David and Olivia. "Even my wife would be fine with that!" he said.

NO! He was cool and was olivia's friend and knew about her and the president. the redhead should have been fired.
And I actually like Quinn... I feel like once we get some info on her past, her storyline will pick up. Olivia/Fitz remain flawless of course.
