Kelly Rowland Shows How She Keeps Her Abs Tight

Kelly Rowland has a banging body. The signer and actress has had one of the industry’s hardest bodies since she stepped on the scene with her Destiny’s Child comrades, and a decade later, she still looks great.

Recently, Kelly gave US Weekly a glimpse at her hardcore fitness regimen, which includes working out five to six times a day and spending a whopping 45 minutes on her abs every night. Can you say, motivation?

Along with appearing in US Weekly’s ‘Hot Body’ issue, Kelly also teamed up with celebrity fitness trainer Jeanette Jenkins to create a “Sexy Abs” workout DVD, in which she kicks her muscles into gear through a series of exercises like the Burn It Bicycles and the Upper Fibers crunch.

While spot training isn’t very effective without being paired with cardio workouts, when it comes to getting your abs workouts in, what is your method of choice?

From yoga and Pilates, to weight-training and good old-fashioned crunches, whatever you use to keep those waistlines tight, Clutchettes, keep it up. And if you need a few tips, peep Kelly Rowland’s US Weekly video to learn how she keeps her tummy in tip-top shape.

"which includes working out five to six times a day"

so basically her regime is for people who don't have jobs + don't sleep
oatmealmonster 7th-Jun-2012 02:36 pm (UTC)
it's a misquote lol. The very beginning of the video she says 5-6 times a week
warsawed 7th-Jun-2012 02:38 pm (UTC)
omg i was seriously freaked out for a sec. i knew celebs were obsessed with fitness but that was taking it a bit far...
poetiictragedy 7th-Jun-2012 02:39 pm (UTC)
omg i was like how in the flying fuck is that possible
aleisha_xo 7th-Jun-2012 02:46 pm (UTC)
lmfao well then that sounds a LOT more realistic
numbedtoe 7th-Jun-2012 03:35 pm (UTC)
I'm glad it's a misquote since working out 5-6 times a day, more than even someone in training would do, was screaming ED to me. 5-6 times a week is much much healthier.
aleisha_xo 7th-Jun-2012 02:36 pm (UTC)
MTE. lol this was gonna be my comment. I mean, I'm certain they're not intense workouts each time but who the fuck has time for that + work + a social life + sleep
putyohandsonme 7th-Jun-2012 02:39 pm (UTC)
Lol
harborafternoon 7th-Jun-2012 03:00 pm (UTC)
that's a typo or whatever because in the video she says "i work out five or SOMETIMES six times a week"

when i read the typo i had to press play to confirm because that sounds unhealthy as fuck to work out that much each day. good thing it's a typo!
ilovespooons 7th-Jun-2012 03:06 pm (UTC)
ikr, I was like what is she doing like 5-6 short bursts or something? Made no sense
smelltheflowers 7th-Jun-2012 02:36 pm (UTC)

I hate articles like this. Celebrity workout regimes are typically totally unrealistic for those of us who have jobs, etc. Most of us don't have hours to spend every day on working out, as much as we would like to. I'm happy if I can fit in a run 3-4 times a week, if that.

expandyourvocab 7th-Jun-2012 03:02 pm (UTC)
IA. My job is physically exerting as is.. can't imagine working out in addition to my long, long work day :(
candycanegrl 7th-Jun-2012 04:01 pm (UTC)
ikr? julian
get_gone 7th-Jun-2012 05:04 pm (UTC)
IKR when I worked as a waitress/bar staff it wasn't too bad bc I was on my feet so would usually keep cals off, but it's hard if you have an office job (not saying it's impossible before someone jumps on me but it's harder)
emerging 7th-Jun-2012 02:37 pm (UTC)
she's adorable and i like her shoes.
transientv 7th-Jun-2012 02:38 pm (UTC)
Ugh I haven't worked out in like 3 weeks. Obviously hating my body isn't motivation enough, what do you use for motivation (not like thinspiration, nhft, but "okay get off your ass now!" motivation)

Also,

Photobucket

wtf am I missing?
megedeborch 7th-Jun-2012 02:39 pm (UTC)
We're just really really bored, mkay???
transientv 7th-Jun-2012 02:40 pm (UTC)
You all look very pretty!
stoneheart 7th-Jun-2012 02:42 pm (UTC)
I also need help in this dept. I get so ~inspired~ every now and work out like mad for 2-4 weeks. Then somehow I find myself stuffing my face with muffins and watching TV over going to the gym. I'm the definition of skinny fat :(
sgmln 7th-Jun-2012 02:51 pm (UTC)
I usually think about how good it makes me feel. I think better and have less anxiety. It also stabilizes my appetite. And endorphins, sleep better and I love sweating ,.,. Sorry for a mess of a reply .
violet_crumble9 7th-Jun-2012 03:03 pm (UTC)
watch a show about obese people that can't get out of their beds.
like wanting to clean up after watching hoarders.

or just think about how good it is for you and how good you'll feel. get some qt work out clothes and maybe work out with a friend. do a team sport. idk. if you run or go for walks try a new route each time to keep it ~fresh.
vonlisbon 7th-Jun-2012 03:04 pm (UTC)
For me, I can sometimes get motivated to work out on my own, but not on a very regular basis. I have to sign up for a class or make some sort of appointment-type thing to keep up with it. Luckily my school has a lot of free courses available but if you don't have the money for one, maybe finding a friend or two to be like EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY WE SHALL JOG FROM 11-12 NO MATTER WHAT would help.
sitakhet 7th-Jun-2012 03:54 pm (UTC)
I sure as hell didn't want to work out this morning (woke up super early and I was falling asleep watching TV about an hour ago,) but I just...did it anyways. It's kind of like, well, I have my workout clothes and running shoes on, I might as well do it!

I also tend to do shorter workouts lately (30mins or so) - I do 5 rounds, 5 exercises, usually about 10 reps for each. Today it was Squat with row, lunge with shoulder press, side plank with hip lift, V-ups and Burpees. Because you're working out a lot of stuff at once and squeezing in cardio at the same time, it's really over before you know it. I started out grumbling that I just wanted to take a nap and then suddenly I was going through the fourth round and had no idea what happened. :P
tigermilk 7th-Jun-2012 04:28 pm (UTC)
Try and imagine what my body would look like in a wedding dress. That literally strikes fear into my heart, because that's the one day I actually want someone to take a picture of me. All of the other days? Fuck you and your camera, gtfo.
remixtherobot 7th-Jun-2012 04:30 pm (UTC)
For me it's just really committing. I want that body and the only way to get there is to work out and eat properly, so I do it. Having a boyfriend who's super athletic also helps, I hate the idea of just being this little blog next to him when he's jacked haha. See if you can find a friend to work out with??
aleronihead 7th-Jun-2012 08:02 pm (UTC)
Mostly my motivation is overall health - I love cheese and comfort food and wine, but I need to work out to balance it all out!

Plus it really helps with stress, and I always feel like my heart is in good shape afterwards.
omgigi 7th-Jun-2012 02:38 pm (UTC)
She'll be at Minneapolis Pride in a couple weeks, can't waitttttt~
palmthejoker 7th-Jun-2012 11:39 pm (UTC)
Really?! Maybe I'll go this year. I'm in Uptown so I have no excuse...
omgigi 8th-Jun-2012 01:04 am (UTC)

spellfae stuff like this make me feel huge, idk why7th-Jun-2012 02:39 pm (UTC)
i'm a size 3, i am 118 lbs and I'm 5'4. I'm not fat by any means and I know that but some times I look at these shows or articles and I'm like, what the hell?? I have to have no jiggle and flat stomachs as well to feel like i'm not chunky or something?

it just makes me feel bad. idk how to get over the fact that i'm thinner than like 70% of everyone i ever meet but i'd still be considered chunky and in need of losing 10 lbs if i ever thought about modeling or acting or whatever.
poetiictragedy 7th-Jun-2012 02:41 pm (UTC)
i don't see how you correlate kelly rowland's/other celeb fitness tips with your insecurity about your body? most of these people are your size
transientv Re: stuff like this make me feel huge, idk why7th-Jun-2012 02:41 pm (UTC)
You are FARRRRR from huge! Don't you feel bad for one second.
baptismtonight Re: stuff like this make me feel huge, idk why7th-Jun-2012 02:42 pm (UTC)
lol i def. feel the way you do. ONTD weight-loss/celebrity fitness stuff triggers my ED pretty badly but Im a glutton for torture and go into them anyways ahaha. It's sick because I mostly feel disgusting afterwards, but it's an impulse to click the cut and go into the post and see what the celebrity has said (and what ONTDers have said about their own weight loss journeys etc etc)

/sigh.

I want the shoes.
poetiictragedy 7th-Jun-2012 02:42 pm (UTC)
i feel like yoga does nothing but help me stretch + relax me. i never see any toning effects
ashleyyyy 7th-Jun-2012 04:06 pm (UTC)
What kind of yoga are you going to?
mmmyesplease 7th-Jun-2012 04:07 pm (UTC)
I thought this until I started doing Bikram. You should try it if you can bear the heat.
wingslapped 7th-Jun-2012 04:10 pm (UTC)
It help me with my balance, but I didn't see much toning.
tigermilk 7th-Jun-2012 04:30 pm (UTC)
Try pilates. They called me the Amazing Shrinking girl at work when I did pilates 2-3x a week, but I was also doing an hour of cardio and then some light weight lifting just before.

/my boyfriend broke up with me so I had nothing going on in my life
specialmei 7th-Jun-2012 05:29 pm (UTC)
I should try that. I work out really hard but I feel like I just get more muscular, not thinner (I eat really well, I just have a shitty metabolism that clings to every last calorie, feh).
derka_drka 7th-Jun-2012 02:44 pm (UTC)
does anyone here use online workout videos/have a good home workout? my body can't handle running in the heat for 6 days, so i need a new mode of working out.
gypsy_leerose 7th-Jun-2012 02:52 pm (UTC)
I love Zumba

the only one i used was the 30 day shred and although i made it through barely 10 days i think it actually worked!
aleronihead 7th-Jun-2012 08:05 pm (UTC)
I love Jillian Michaels' DVDs. I rotate 3-4 of her discs and alternate with an elliptical (best purchase I ever made)
lady_sativa 7th-Jun-2012 02:44 pm (UTC)
Working out the same muscle group every day is counterproductive. Work smarter, not harder.

mariemaru 7th-Jun-2012 02:47 pm (UTC)
She's always had a great body, and I don't doubt that she doesn't take care of it, but a lot of it is genetics.

If my waist was one inch longer, I'd probably have amazingly defined abs, but it's not. So I basically have to cut my body fat down to a percentage where I'd stop menstruating to get real definition.

Also, "Abs are made in the kitchen."
mariemaru 7th-Jun-2012 02:56 pm (UTC)
Like I said, I'm sure she works hard, I just know how frustrating it can be to do everything right and STILL not look that way because you're just made differently.
kimberwyn 7th-Jun-2012 07:25 pm (UTC)
Lol yeah she's super tall and has a long torso. I'm average height with long legs (which I prefer) so to try and look like that would be ridiculous.
gypsy_leerose 7th-Jun-2012 02:52 pm (UTC)
Lol
rockpaperspray 7th-Jun-2012 02:56 pm (UTC)

fabouluz 7th-Jun-2012 02:52 pm (UTC)
But doing ab work won't show results unless you have 0% fat
rockpaperspray 7th-Jun-2012 02:58 pm (UTC)
in what world
congresstart 7th-Jun-2012 03:04 pm (UTC)
you keep telling yourself that
fabouluz 7th-Jun-2012 03:11 pm (UTC)
How come every website says that tho?
pennyroyaltea 7th-Jun-2012 03:57 pm (UTC)
I get what you're saying, but you definitely don't need NO body fat to see abs. I do ab work all the time, and I finally am just starting to see definition because I added a lot of cardio into my routine. Basically, you can do ab work to make your core stronger but you need cardio to burn the fat so you can see them.
kimberwyn 7th-Jun-2012 07:26 pm (UTC)
Not 0%, but I've read it's something like 10-15%. It probably depends on a lot of factors though.
