Which actress is the latest to get her own entry in the 'Female Force' comics?

Carrie Fisher!!!!

Bluewater Productions has been specializing in biographical comics for years. Now they are bringing the life of movie icon Carrie Fisher into full color focus as part of their Female Force series, which has also included Anne Rice, RuPaul, Barbara Walters, Madonna, Ellen DeGeneres, Michelle Obama, JK Rowling, etc.

Writer C.W. Cooke — who has worked on Bluewater titles about Lady Gaga, Betty White, Oprah Winfrey, Burt Ward, Adam West, Martha Stewart and Tiger Woods, among many others — is telling Fisher’s life story, which includes playing the immortal Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy. Female Force: Carrie Fisher, written by Cooke and illustrated by Ryan Paule with a cover illustration by Joe Phillips, will sell for $3.99 and also be available digitally for $1.99 for the Nook, Kindle and iPad.

A recent Bluewater press release states:

“From galaxies far away to stories set all too close to home, Carrie Fisher has done it all and seen it all. From her youth as the daughter of a famous Hollywood singer and actress, to her own time in the acting spotlight, Carrie Fisher has been a strong role model for women everywhere. She has faced adversity at every turn and she has fought back each time. She’s been a sex symbol, a sci-fi goddess, and everything in between, but above all else, she has been a strong female who never gave up. As strong and driven in real life as her beloved character, Fisher draws attention in Female Force: Carrie Fisher to a far-reaching problem that millions of Americans suffer from: bipolar disorder. Outspoken about her own personal struggles with the mental illness, Fisher is having Bluewater donate a percentage of the proceeds from her ‘Female Force’ issue to the Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut. Silver Hill is renowned for its excellence in its treatment of psychiatric disorders. Bluewater will also be running exclusive information about the disorder in the book.”

“I am a huge fan of Carrie’s and I, too, suffer from bipolar disorder. She has inspired me in so many ways. Her candid wit and brutal honesty is what is needed to help lift the stigma off of the disease,”
says Jason Schultz, Vice President of Bluewater Productions.

Future Bluewater biographical subjects will JRR Tolkien, The Cast of Saturday Night Live and The U.S. Army. Now that’s diversity!

Loooove her. I saw the show she did of Postcards on the Edge back when it was in Berkeley. She is hilarious.

Should I add the Star Wars tag or would it make it too obvious?
browniecakemix 3rd-Jun-2012 04:05 am (UTC)
Idk maybe not but I think it might? I say add the tag in a few hours for future browsing purposes.
isntdaveone 3rd-Jun-2012 04:05 am (UTC)

But why is the gold bikini on the cover?

I recently read a really good analysis of why nerds jizzing over that gold bikini is incredibly problematic and it really bugs me that out of all of Leia's outfits that's the one they put on the cover of a comic that's supposed to INSPIRE young girls. wtf.
browniecakemix 3rd-Jun-2012 04:06 am (UTC)
link to the analysis bb?

ronnie_luvs_u 3rd-Jun-2012 04:22 am (UTC)

clairelittleton 3rd-Jun-2012 04:38 am (UTC)
because it was the most iconic outfit she wore in the films. and it's memorable because she was the one who killed her capture while wearing it. plus she looked amazing in it. chains aside.

No to everything except, "plus she looked amazing in it". That's the only reason it's there.
clairelittleton 3rd-Jun-2012 01:48 pm (UTC)
lol um, yes to everything there. but i expected that from a ontd'er or a non/quasi fan of the films.
r_a_black 3rd-Jun-2012 04:13 pm (UTC)
Oh god, don't make assumptions, that's the quickest way to make yourself look stupid. I'm not a non/quasi fan, but thanks for trying.

I just got done watching Stephen Fry's documentary about living with bipolar disorder. She was one of the people he interviewed about it and idk, realizing how strong she's been in her life, coping with this and still kicking ass, made me like her even more than I already did.
juanitatequila 3rd-Jun-2012 05:18 am (UTC)
