'50 Shades Of Grey' Back On Florida Library Shelves

A Florida county is putting the racy romance trilogy "Fifty Shades of Grey" back on its library shelves.

The Brevard County Library System had pulled 19 copies of the best-sellers from its bookshelves earlier this month. County officials said the decision was made after they read reviews of the trilogy initially self-published by the author in e-reader form.

A county spokesman also called the books "semi-pornographic."

On Monday, the county announced that "Fifty Shades of Grey" would be available immediately through the library in response to requests from residents.

Library Services Director Cathy Schweinsberg said the library was against censorship and was reviewing its selection criteria.

Public libraries in several states have banned to book trilogy, saying it's too steamy or too poorly written.

It wasn't self-published unless you count posting fan fiction as self-publishing. She posted it as Twilight fanfic. Separately from that but during the same time frame a website called The Writer's Coffee Shop came into existence. Their original purpose was to post naughty Twific that had been banned from FFnet due to content. Of course they allowed any Twific and then went on to include fic for other fandoms. Also during the same timeline as this they saw that Twilighted was having success with their "publishing house" and decided to do the same thing which was make themselves a publisher and approach popular Twilight authors with book deals. The rest is history. TWCS approached Icy to publish her fic, she said yes, pulled her fic as per their TOS and published it through TWCS with the names changed. If only that had been the end of it.
