I'm sure the writers will continue to fuck up my baby Catelyn, so I shall take solace in the fact that they seem to have a good handle on Jaime and Brienne so their scenes should be good.

YASSS. Maybe it's just the Nikolaj and Gwen have good chemistry or just that the writers ~get the characters better. But the Jaime/Brienne scene was gr9.

I'm just so pleased that Blackwater got a whole episode dedicated to it.

And a little sad because it just shows how good this show is when you dedicate time to a specific storyline. I mean, it's impractical, especially when characters are spread all over the place, and like what GRRM says at the beginning of ASOS, that chapters very often run parallel and overlap to each other, but I'M JUST SO GLAD BLACKWATER GOT IT'S OWN EPISODE WITHOUT SEEING WHAT ROB/DANY/ARYA/JON/BRAN/THEON were up to at the same time.

I think it also helped that GRRM wrote this episode. I mean, I may think he's a megadouche, but the man can write. And he understands tv too.

Yes! Yes, he sure can write for tv, and I really, really appreciate that. He can be annoying, but yeah-he sure can write when he wants to (in other news I'm halfway through AFFC and am nervous about starting DWD because I don't want to have to wait until I've got grandkids before the next book comes out).

Yeah, we keep saying it's all because GRRM is a better writer, but I think it really comes down to pacing. They devoted a whole episode, 10% of the season, to this and it just FELT right. Ten episodes for a whole season makes them suffer really bad, especially because they have cut the things they shouldn't and kept in the parts they shouldn't.
