Pharrell Supports Human Beings

Pharrell Speaks On Same-Sex Marriage
Pharrell Williams, aka Skateboard P, is never one to hold his tongue on any topic, whether it's music, fashion or style. So it's no surprise he had something to say about President Obama's recent endorsement of same-sex marriage.

Right before tearing down the stage at Irving Plaza last night with special guest Santigold, the Virginia native took some time out to talk politics, music and skateboarding, among other things, in an exclusive interview with Mass Appeal Magazine.

Here are Pharrell’s thoughts on President Obama’s endorsement of same-sex marriage:
‘‘
Speaking of differences, what are your thoughts about Barack Obama coming out in support of gay marriage? A lot of your fans are gay, young kids.

P: Right.

Any thoughts or feelings on that?

P: I make music for human beings, so… I think the President addressed human beings. I make music for human beings, we all do! All of us musicians make music for human beings. There’s differences all across the board but, you know, you have a life! You’re a human being. I hope that answer will suffice because, to me, at the end of the day, we’re all humans. You don’t gotta like everything! Live and let live, man!’’

londonshowers 25th-May-2012 06:44 am (UTC)
well duh they have to. black culture is the source of all homophobia (& sexism) and before black culture came along everyone was all kumbaya-ing and shit
roguedandelion 25th-May-2012 08:02 am (UTC)
Apparently there has been a huge shift in attitudes in the African American community recently(according to the ABC Poll, where 6 in 10 opposed and 4/10 supported it only about a year ago, and now those numbers are flipped) so I think this this discussion among prominent black public figures is great and helping shift attitudes.

It's kinda funny, in the sense that the only reason no one bothered asking before is because people just presumed all black people are somehow "inherently" homophobic.
mushroom18 29th-May-2012 02:33 pm (UTC)
It's kinda obvious what they're doing but at the same time if these black and POC celebrities can help people change their viewpoints on gay marriage, then it's all good. I for one feel immensely relieved to find out who's all for gay marriage and at least I know who are the assholes
