Syfy Cancels Sanctuary, No Season 5.

Syfy has canceled "Sanctuary" after four seasons, the network confirmed Monday, ending months of speculation and smashing fans' hopes for a fifth season.

The series, about a team led by semi-immortal scientest Helen Magnus that protects and/or captures the world's abnormals--those beings that hunt or are hunted by humans--starred Amanda Tapping, Robin Dunne, Ryan Robbins, Christopher Heyerdahl and Agam Darshi. It completed its fourth season last fall.

Tapping said on Twitter Monday: "To all the fans of @SanctuarySeries we love and adore you. Thank you for the love and support. Now to the long dark tea time of my soul. :("

"We couldn't be prouder of the four seasons we made on 'Sanctuary,'" executive producers Damian Kindler, Tapping and Martin Wood said in a statement from Syfy. "We are very grateful for the opportunity and must acknowledge the wonderful work from our cast and crew, the support from our studio, the Beedie Group--who have been with us right from the start, the networks who worked so hard with us each week, and most of all the fans ... we owe so much to the fans."

Mark Stern, Syfy's president of original content, praised the creative team behind the groundbreaking series. "We're honored to have been part of this incredible series," Stern said in the statement. "It's been an amazing ride and we look forward to our next project with Amanda Tapping, Martin Wood and Damian Kindler."

Sanctuary For Kids, the charitable foundation started by the "Sanctuary" team, will continue, Tapping said on Twitter Monday.

Reaction from fans was of disappointment and anger toward Syfy, but support for the "Sanctuary" cast and crew. "Wow... Truly overwhelmed by all the wonderful #Sanctuary messages," Robbins tweeted. "You guys continue to be full of awesomeness. #bestfansever"

The cast and crew seemed to take it in stride Monday (I imagine they've known for some time), giving Syfy only warm wishes for having aired the show for four seasons.

"Thank you to @Syfy and @SPACEchannel for all the support and to @craigengler for his personal friendship. We had a good run," tweeted Gillian Horvath, who wrote and produced for "Sanctuary" for two years. She is currently executive producing/writing "Primeval: New World," a Canadian expansion of the British time-traveling dinosaurs series.

Like Horvath, other members of the "Sanctuary" team iare working on other projects. Wood and Tapping will direct episodes of "Primeval" during its first season, while Robbins co-stars in Season 2 of TNT's "Falling Skies" and Heyerdahl appears in HBO's "True Blood."

Syfy's Sanctuary will not be returning for a fifth season, making the recently-aired fourth season its final, it was confirmed today by Mark Stern, President, Syfy Original Content and Co-Head, Universal Cable Productions.

"We're honored to have been part of this incredible series. In addition to garnering unmatched devotion by fans worldwide, Sanctuary was a bona fide trailblazer, setting new standards with its highly innovative production techniques--including pioneering green screen and RED camera technology--and Emmy-nominated visual effects," remarked Stern.  "It's been an amazing ride and we look forward to our next project with Amanda Tapping, Martin Wood and Damian Kindler."

Executive Producers Damian Kindler, Amanda Tapping and Martin Wood said, "We couldn't be prouder of the four seasons we made on Sanctuary. We are very grateful for the opportunity and must acknowledge the wonderful work from our cast and crew, the support from our studio, the Beedie Group--who have been with us right from the start, the networks who worked so hard with us each week, and most of all the fans ... we owe so much to the fans.

"From Sanctuary, we also started our charitable foundation Sanctuary for Kids which has raised over $250,000 for children in crisis worldwide. We will be continuing our work with Sanctuary for Kids and are so thankful for the Sanctuary fans and their amazing support and generosity."

Wish I could be sad about this, but season 3 was mediocre and i checked out of four halfway through. Syfy could have not taken five months to do this, tho...
(Sorry about the hotlinking mods, still learning...)

ljubavirakija 24th-May-2012 04:24 am (UTC)
YES! Shit got so real towards the end
gogeta1 24th-May-2012 04:25 am (UTC)
Besides Being Human I don't watch Syfy's shows.

I like your icon, op!
angelmonster 24th-May-2012 04:25 am (UTC)
I gave up on SyFy, it was half decent and not is totally rubbish.
angelmonster 24th-May-2012 04:37 am (UTC)
Same, it seems to show those horrible Saturday night flop movies and reality tv involving 'ghosts'. Nothing more...
redleigh86 24th-May-2012 05:22 am (UTC)
Now, aside from Haven and Warehouse 13, the only shit it airs is wrestling and those shitty rip-off movies by Asylum.
koala_d 24th-May-2012 04:28 am (UTC)
My dad will be devestated
I haven't watched it since season 2
sgmajorshipper 24th-May-2012 04:30 am (UTC)
Ugh, Syfy, remember when you had all the good shows? Yeah, I barely remember it too.

I know I stopped watching after S3, but I heard it got marginally better, and I was over here praying they'd get a fifth season and a chance to get good again. I remember how excited we all were when it actually got picked up and they were gonna make it into a proper TV series. Now I'm sadface.
isntdaveone 24th-May-2012 04:34 am (UTC)
i don't think there's anything left on $yfy that i look forward to.

all my fav shows are long-gone and the channel isn't sci-fi anymore.
muleskinnrblues 24th-May-2012 04:39 am (UTC)
I normally like these kind of shows, should I try and watch the first season?
unalike 24th-May-2012 04:40 am (UTC)
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I JUST started watching sanctuary couple of weeks ago :(
I also started watching Eureka and Stargate Universe lol. its like I want to be angry at syfy
roxyroller121 25th-May-2012 12:32 am (UTC)
I watched my first episode last night, damn it.
squirrels_oh_no 24th-May-2012 04:40 am (UTC)
Well, at least they had a few months of wondering. Sci Fi committed to Farscape and then was like "Sorry, we lied! Yoink!"

But in Syfy news, I've found myself in love with Lost Girl. I tell my friend about it and talk about how Chris Martin's Brooding Clone and Boobs McKenzie should just have sex for 45 minutes every episode and it would still be watchable. I don't care about Dr. Lesbian. She can go whine and mope in the corner.
egalitarianmuse 24th-May-2012 04:41 am (UTC)
I'm going to miss my little show. Not that much, mind, but yeah a bit. I needed more resolution to the intermittent lesbian tension. Also, my kingdom for more Christopher Heyerdahl's voice. MY KINGDOM.

the channel used to be so great.

prophecypro 24th-May-2012 04:47 am (UTC)
On the flipside, more space for Sharktopus now!

I wonder if that Space Milkshake movie they did is coming out? It doesnt look like a cinema release but would be good for a web release. Kinda had web series potential. Lawd knows I would rather Kristin do that than what she is now. Mind you the trailer was a bit off key
victoriagrayson 24th-May-2012 04:48 am (UTC)
I am/still so god damn devastated about this. I have some serious love for Helen Magnus and.. this sucks so much.

Imagine Greater my ass Syfy.
soavantgarde 24th-May-2012 05:31 am (UTC)
I miss the old scifi. I remember when I was really young the bumps used to scare the shit out of me, lol
nimberlane 24th-May-2012 05:43 am (UTC)
Welp looks like SyFy wants to be flops like they used to be.
nemoteen 24th-May-2012 05:47 am (UTC)
I think I stopped watching this somewhere in the second season. Oh Syfy, I don't even know what shows you have now.
a_files06 24th-May-2012 05:57 am (UTC)
If they loved teh show and cast they would atleast let them give it a proper 2hr send off.

But they have been flopping so hard canceling all their shows left and right that are actually good. Better not cancel my Alphas. It was hard enough getting over Caprica.
artemisbones94 24th-May-2012 07:40 am (UTC)
Ugh, I'm still mourning Caprica. My only show left is Warehouse 13 after they cancelled Eureka.
evange_lynne 24th-May-2012 05:59 am (UTC)
Congrats SyFy, another good show you've let go :/
I was really, really looking forward to a season 5 *devasted*

There isn't anything good to watch on SyFy anymore (except Haven).
ladytia 24th-May-2012 06:27 am (UTC)
lbr, Sanctuary had some really shitty episodes. I hated Will the mary sue and Kate who was played by a really shit actress. The only folks that mattered to me besides Magnus was the rest of The Five.

But, Helen Magnus was fabulous and a fucking bamf, and I honestly wanted another season of her...and her lesbian relationship, lol.
alessar 24th-May-2012 04:58 pm (UTC)
Killing off her daughter really pissed me off. Her shoehorned replacement irritated me and I stopped watching.
williammiller 24th-May-2012 06:52 am (UTC)
This makes me nervous for Warehouse 13. I know it's been picked up but they're canceling everything except that, their shitty wrestling and their dumb reality shows.
scootermcgaffin 24th-May-2012 09:30 am (UTC)
It's been picked up but given a shitty time slot and span. It'll be next.
alessar 24th-May-2012 04:58 pm (UTC)
RuPaul needs to go over there and scream DON'T FUCK IT UP at someone.
williammiller 31st-May-2012 09:19 am (UTC)
But it's always been on on Monday's at 9... I think people thought it was going to get canceled after this season because they ordered 20 episodes which like two seasons anyway.
mynamehere07 24th-May-2012 08:30 am (UTC)
I couldn't get into this show, but I'm sad they cancelled it. These days I get sad when any scripted show get replaced with yet another "reality" show. Hell they aren't even trying anymore with their original movies. I get that they are going for the cheesy B movie theme, but Alien/Ice Tornado and Sharktopus, really??

I remember when SciFi used to be good, they would have day blocks of good shows (Hercules, Xena, The Outer Limits). Now every time I tune in, it's those annoying Fact or Faked ninnies and Ghost Hunters.
fabouluz 24th-May-2012 08:54 am (UTC)
She'll still be Sam Carter to me anyway
eternalwings 24th-May-2012 10:22 am (UTC)
I loved Sanctuary, at least it got a sort of ending but they could have gone anywhere after that so I'm bummed :/
anakin415 24th-May-2012 10:40 am (UTC)
yup, syfy done with you now.
digipacopr 24th-May-2012 11:11 am (UTC)
i gave up on this show a while ago. i tried to stick with it, if anything just to look at Henry's arms but I just couldnt.
wingslapped 24th-May-2012 11:31 am (UTC)
RIP Sci-Fi Channel.
ginger_maya 24th-May-2012 12:25 pm (UTC)
Whatever, the fourth season was almost unwatchable as it was. Good riddance.
kimberlyjoan 24th-May-2012 12:37 pm (UTC)
they should never have killed off ashley!
alessar 24th-May-2012 04:59 pm (UTC)
PREACH.
radname 24th-May-2012 01:16 pm (UTC)
i love magnus :( :( :( :(
lilyginny27 24th-May-2012 01:25 pm (UTC)
This blows.
likemist 24th-May-2012 06:03 pm (UTC)
Never watched it, but I love Martin Wood just based on his Stargate work. ILH. Also Peter DeLuise.

Christopher Heyerdahl is awesome, he will always be Todd to me.
thatfilmgirl 24th-May-2012 11:34 pm (UTC)
Shouldn't have gotten rid of Ashley...
