I did see the quote about her being "anti-labelist" and the wank about Irene being gay or not or whatever, which I thought was beyond awesome. I am starting to stan her really legit hardcore, and not just because I wrote long-ass fic about Irene. \o/
I'm going to need you to link me. I think I'm following you on Tumblr (are you there or am I thinking Ao3?), but I haven't seen that!
The quote I meant was her talking about how Sherlock coming to her aid in the end wasn't about her being weak at all. Irene was strong enough to face the consequence of losing with grace, because that's who she was. The scene was really about how Sherlock was the one to be changed, he was the one who submitted to sentiment in order to save her. It was pretty wicked actually. I'm still not terribly fond of the execution (no pun intended) of the episode, but I feel like I get Irene better now.
I didn't see the whole thing, but shit, I'd like to! Here's the quote I meant. And ugh, yes, that's exactly what I took away from that scene--like, she wasn't weak for being captured; we're talking about terrorists here, it's not her fault. Sherlock had no good reason to save her, so the fact that he did showed that he genuinely cared for her. In that final scene when he's all "and this is just losing," I thought it was so obvious that he was really like "FEELINGS ARE STUPID AND THAT'S WHY I'M REALLY GLAD I DON'T HAVE ANY. AT ALL. ESPECIALLY FOR YOU. DEFINITELY NOT" and I really didn't get why people were acting like she was being an ~emotional girl~ and he was just being awesome. So, like, they both affected each other in a good way. I see why people object to certain things about the ep, but overall I really loved it & her. So, yeah. ;)
Yeah i agree. I admit it had a lot of problematic shit but i felt that him saving her at the end was more about him giving up and just accepting he cared.
I hate that it is so widespread that EVERYONE who comes into contact with it even slightly is all 'omgmisogynisticblahblahblah and you are misogynistic at heart too if you disagree!'
Fuck the social justice crusaders. Sometimes I feel like it's impossible to write any relationships onscreen without causing wank tbh, they just go looking for things to be offended by.
Lbr Sherlock fandom is not the most feminist friendly place. The moment something messes with the slashy subtext hell breaks loose. A lot of people were angry because Sherlock was actually into her like wtf.
Also, have you read the recent (I don't know how recent) interview Lara did about Irene and Sherlock, show and characters? How is she so amazing?
