Is Chris Brown’s dramatic weight loss drug-fueled?
Chris Brown recently performed a concert in Sydney, Australia, and the ticket buyers and local press were reportedly surprised by his new, skinnier appearance.
Brown, who was never been grossly overweight throughout his music career, was seen onstage with arms that contained very little body fat, and resembled those of a textbook anorexic.
Those close to Brown debunked any suggestions that some reporters have made about Brown’s dramatic weight loss being fueled by excessive drug use. Instead, they offer a different explanation for his sudden change in appearance; Chris Brown is heartbroken.
According to his representatives who acknowledge the weight loss, Chris Brown is having trouble coming to grips with his break-up with pop music star, Rihanna.
Brown and Rihanna were dating back in 2009, but the relationship ended after Brown was arrested for beating her up prior to the Grammy Awards. Brown’s reputation then took a hit after police photos of Rihanna’s bruised face were “accidentally” released to TMZ. Brown later pleaded guilty to felony assault, and received 5 years probation and was ordered to stay 50 yards away from Rihanna. However, that stipulation was later altered and now the former couple can be close to each other for performances.
So this leaves people to wonder if Brown’s representatives are being upfront, and his dramatic weight loss is due to a broken heart, and not from drug abuse. This does leave me contemplating why Brown’s spokespeople are providing this explanation for Brown’s current physical appearance.
Are Brown’s people taking the attitude that it is better to lose weight due to being depressed rather than abusing drugs? Is it more forgivable in society to look anorexic because a person can’t deal with a break-up in a healthy way (even when the relationship ended three years ago) compared to someone who escapes their negative emotions through substance abuse?
Neither reason is a particularly healthy way to lose weight, and will decrease Brown’s overall level of wellness. It is unknown if Brown is currently seeking the help of a mental health professional to develop better coping skills, but if he has a good support system, Brown needs to address these unhealthy ways of dealing with his break-up before harmful health ailments develop. The last thing his fans want is for him to suffer the same fate as Karen Carpenter, and join Brittany Murphy as the poster children for celebrity eating disorders in the new century.
