Well I'm not going around splashing around in standing water or anything but as long as you watch where you're going...
All I can say is, I've never had any kind of infection and I spent years barefoot as a kid outside while my bff got a fungal infection from a local mani/pedi shop. Just gotta be careful. She's in a dry climate so that helps.
I think it depends on if you grew up in a rural or urban area. I grew up in suburbia, but the same area was quite rural when my dad was growing up and I took my cues from him as far as footwear went. If I'm not at work or going some where out in public, I ain't wearing shoes.
when I was a kid I could spend hours outside barefoot though never in public, even when it was August and I live in Texas. The bottoms of my feet must have been pretty thick and calloused (gross) because as an adult with nice constantly clean feet, I cant get to the mailbox in May without bitching about how hot and painful the driveway is.
Yeah my feet are definitely more tender than they used to be since I don't go playing around the yard/driveway anymore. I'm the same way about complaining when going to the mailbox lol.
Plus when you grow up in a warm climate like she did, you're used to spending your childhood mostly barefoot, tbh. /native of the South
