BOX OFFICE: MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS Already Nearing $200M Overseas

Deadline reports that Marvel's The Avengers current international box office stands at $178.4M after its first five days of release in 39 territories. The film has seen the highest opening of all time in everywhere from Mexico to Brazil, Argentina, Central America, Peru, and Boliva, while Asian markets such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Philippines also set records. Record breaking massive openings are currently expected in nations such as Russia, China and Japan (and of course, North America on May 4th). As you can see from the Tweets below, it's beginning to look more and more likely that Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble will easily hit $1B.

It doesn't make any sense *WHY* they waited a week for the North American release...I know you want a May blockbuster..but why the fuck? It's already out on CAM. It should've been released WORLDWIDE the same day.

mte. i know most films premiere on different days but the gap between them all doesn't make sense to me. japan gets it in august? like, really? that's just mean, tbh.

i just don't get why an american movie didn't get premiered in america first though? genuinely asking. like, i don't mind when pokemon comes out MONTHS in advance over in japan because it's a japanese product, but idgi with this movie. marketing tactic?

they probably wanted to take advantage from the buzz overseas which seems to be working in its favor

It's funny, here in Mexico, a lot of Marvel movies come out one week before than USA (the only time we have this honor).

I remember same outrage happened with Iron Man movies :/

oh so it's not out in america yet? seeing everyone on ont saying I SAW IT TODAY I thought it was lol... Damn that sucks! (But as other people said I lived it many times for other movies so AHA!)
Sometimes it's a slot problem too, like in france they release it later cause the week it's out worldwide is "full" in france or something. like you have to have a % of french and and % of foreign movies or something so sometimes it has to be pushed a week back... Maybe there's something like that in the US and they got screwed? idk
