There's been a lot of talk these last couple of weeks about "hipster racism" or "ironic racism"—or, as I like to call it, racism. It's, you know, introducing your black friend as "my black friend"—as a joke!!!—to show everybody how totally not preoccupied you are with your black friend's blackness.

is Nicole Richie a racist for wearing a kimono? Not really. Some people are so picky.
Head dresses are a no because they weren't/aren't commonly worn by Native Americans but are reserved for special occasions and ceremonies. It is a hollywood stereotype that Native Americans would run around in them all the time and kill cowboys etc etc that's the problem. It doesn't actually reflect a culture but a stereotype, it's insulting imo
I am first nations in Canada and it seems like maybe in America things are different.
and actually it is problematic of nicole richie to wear a kimono - othering and exoticizing non-western cultures is a huge problem.
(I've seen Fergie wearing one, too lol She looked really pretty tbh)
