"The doctor is out: After eight seasons, Hugh Laurie and cast say farewell to 'House' at series fina

It has been one of the biggest U.S. television hits of the past few years and made a Stateside star out of British actor Hugh Laurie.

But was time for the cast of House to bid farewell to the hit medical whodunnit show last night as they stepped out onto the red carpet for the series wrap party.

There were no tears for star Hugh, but he admitted it had been emotional saying goodbye to the series after nearly eight years.

'Generally speaking, I'm pretty hopeless at goodbyes,' Laurie told Zap2it, 'and I'm mostly not very good at hellos, either.

'I think I'm all right with the in-between stuff, but this is a very long, protracted goodbye to a character and to about 300 people I've worked with for eight years. This has been very emotional, and it continues to be.'

As the nasty, cane-wielding Dr. Gregory House on the TV drama, Hugh found American fame, was nominated for an Emmy award six times, twice won a Golden Globe, and became the highest paid actor on television.

The 2012 Guinness Book of World Records lists his salary at a whopping $700,000 an episode.

'We've been desperately scrambling in the last few days to put together our own sort of commemorative documentary,' said the British actor, who will soon go on tour with his blues band.

'It'll be sort of a curtain-raiser to the last show. I think it will come to pass, and I hope we will do justice to the last eight years. It's obviously very important to us that we do that, so we're pulling out all the stops to do the best we can.'

The 177th and final episode will be titled 'Everybody Dies' which is a play on House's catchphrase 'Everybody lies.'

The network has confirmed that the top secret series finale, which airs May 21, will see the return of past co-stars including Olivia Wilde, Kal Penn, and Amber Tamblyn who attended last night's event in a mermaid cut LBD and snakeskin heels.

With her brunette hair in an elaborate updo, Amber joked about the origin of her character Dr. Martha Masters.

'House [Hugh Laurie] pulls his face off, and it's me. That's what it is. All along it was Martha,' she joked.

Last Thursday, Kal Penn was feeling so nostalgic that he posted an old picture of himself, Olivia, and Peter Jacobson on the House set.

Olivia, who played Dr. Remy 'Thirteen' Hadley for several seasons, responded to Kal's photo by tweeting, 'Saving lives, one giant forehead at a time.'

Not returning for the series swan song is Jennifer Morrison and Lisa Edelstein, whose character Dr. Lisa Cuddy had an on/off romance with House and left the show at the end of last season.

Despite ratings falling from a high of nearly 20 million in season three, the series has managed to hold on to its viewers, averaging 9.8 million this season, which is strong for a drama airing at 8pm in its eighth season.

The show, originally inspired by Sherlock Holmes, has featured guest stars like Jennifer Grey, Carmen Electra, LL Cool J, Elle Fanning, Leighton Meesta [sic], and Jeremy Renner.

Last night, Odette Annable looked stunning in her shiny silver retro floor-length dress. The 26-year-old brunette, who plays one of House's newest recruits, Dr. Jessica Adams, had fun joking around with co-star Charlyne Yi at the party.

The 26-year-old comedian, who plays a Filipino-Korean doctor with anger-management issues, pulled some strange faces as she posed with her castmates in a spring floral number.

Robert Sean Leonard displayed his growing facial hair as he posed with his very pregnant wife Gabriella Salick, who accented her black dress with a flower pin and red wrap.

Keeping his hat and sunglasses on, Omar Epps posed with his gorgeous wife Keisha who vamped up the red carpet in her black lipstick and plunging neckline.

Tony-winning Harry's Law star Karen Olivo's dress had some interesting texturing designs that made it resemble cobble-stone pavement, and recurring House actress Jennifer Crystal Foley wore a long tube dress with leather bust as she carried a sparkly, blue clutch.

British star power: Hugh Laurie last night bid farewell to House at the season finale wrap party in Los Angeles

Burning down the house: Cast members Peter Jacobson, Omar Epps, Jesse Spencer, Odette Annable, Hugh Laurie, Charlyne Yi, show creator David Shore, and Robert Sean Leonard bid farewell at last night's wrap party in Los Angeles

House's ladies: Odette Annable and Amber Tamblyn brought a feminine touch to the mostly male red carpet

Stroll down memory lane: Last Thursday, Kal Penn was feeling so nostalgic for the Fox series that he tweeted an old picture of himself, Olivia, and Peter Jacobson on the set

So long House! Recurring House actress Jennifer Crystal Foley and Tony-winning Harry's Law star Karen Olivo both made appearances at the wrap party

Bunny ears! Odette, who plays one of House's newest recruits, Dr. Jessica Adams, had fun joking around with co-star Charlyne Yi at the party

Husbands and wives: House stars Omar Epps and Robert Sean Leonard posed with their wives at the event
Lovely ladies: The two 26-year-old brunettes, who both recently joined the series, looked like they were having a blast last night

I'll probably tune in, but I gave up on this show years ago. I still love Hugh Laurie and RSL, though.

not even kidding, i never saw even 1 episode of this show.

aprettywastex3 25th-Apr-2012 01:43 am (UTC)
keep it that way tbh.
Nah just kidding, it was flawless until season 4, then it went downhill and fast.
batty_gal 25th-Apr-2012 01:46 am (UTC)
Agreed completely about how it went down after/at season 4.

Seasons 4, 5 and 6 had their good moments too. Especially the finales for seasons 4 and 5, and that episode in season 6 where Thirteen had to deal with that psychopath ("Remorse"). omg that episode gave me chills.
violue 25th-Apr-2012 01:44 am (UTC)
i've seen a few... i know i saw the pilot, and an episode with john laroquette
vivisexion 25th-Apr-2012 01:47 am (UTC)
the first couple seasons are worth watching, but everything beyond season 3 or 4 is crap
ch33rylips 25th-Apr-2012 01:49 am (UTC)
Do you not have USA network, cause I swear to god they always have house and law and order marathons on
sugar_sex 25th-Apr-2012 02:16 am (UTC)
you should watch season 1 and 2 - flaw free imho.
akaich0u 25th-Apr-2012 03:03 am (UTC)
Seasons 1-3 are consistently good, but 4, 5 and 6 are also worth watching.

I've run into Charlene Yi a couple of times in LA. She's weird. I may not have spelled her name right, but whatever.

neverletgo 25th-Apr-2012 03:04 am (UTC)
She seems like she would be for some reason. LOL
therealycats 25th-Apr-2012 03:41 am (UTC)
I haven't seen her on House, but I have seen her in a few interviews and I just don't find her the least bit amusing. It's like she's got the awkward manic thing going on, but with her it seems genuine unlike some people and you all know who I'm talking about. And I guess maybe that's the problem. When you're faking awkward, you can still interact with people because you aren't really awkward and everyone knows it's a cutesy act. When you're NOT faking awkward it can be really uncomfortable for other people to watch. I have nothing against her, I just don't find her entertaining. Like, it seems like all of her jokes (I haven't seen any actual standup, mind you, just her interviews) seem to go, "So this one time (heeheehee!), I went into the bathroom (heeheeheeHAW!), and I turned the light on (snort!), and I looked in the mirror (wheeze), and I brushed my hair (asthma attack), and then I got hair in my brush!!!!!"
prophecy_grl 25th-Apr-2012 04:09 am (UTC)
Yes, that is the perfect description of her!

She's actually really nice but she is really really awkward. She almost apologizes for everything, you know what I mean?

Anyway, she was sweet both times I ran into her but just really... weird. Yeah.
numbedtoe 25th-Apr-2012 01:43 am (UTC)
I gave up on the show too. Still love Hugh and Robert.

Still find this kind of sad though.
gonerilandregan 25th-Apr-2012 01:44 am (UTC)
When did you stop? I stopped at Kutner's suicide. I was going through some deep shit during that time, and I just couldn't deal with it. Yeah, I know Kal Penn left to work for Obama, but still.
numbedtoe 25th-Apr-2012 02:02 am (UTC)
I tagged out a few eps after House goes to a mental hospital. And to me that 2 hour season opener felt more like a bad lifetime movie than House.

Kutner's suicide was hard. And very realistic in terms of everyone trying to figure it out. unfortunately it kinda stopped there. I know they didn't want to be a huge downer, but after a few eps it was like he never was.
ch33rylips 25th-Apr-2012 01:48 am (UTC)
I stopped after Wilson took him to the mental hospital, just couldn't bring myself to watch the new season.
invisible_cunt 25th-Apr-2012 01:44 am (UTC)

mynamehere07 25th-Apr-2012 09:04 am (UTC)
He's had hallucinations of dead people before (Cut Throat Bitch), so he could have pretend conversations with Kutner.
ch33rylips 25th-Apr-2012 01:45 am (UTC)
Boooo I though this was about Matt.
sleepofplagues 25th-Apr-2012 01:45 am (UTC)
should have ended long ago but love it and definitely will try to watch
niagarawoman 25th-Apr-2012 01:46 am (UTC)
So are House and Wilson going to make out and ride off into the sunset or...? Because that's the only way this show could possibly redeem itself.

Leighton Meester.

What episode was Jeremy Renner in?
gonerilandregan 25th-Apr-2012 02:08 am (UTC)
I didn't even notice that typo. Daily Fail indeed!

Season 4, Episode 9: "Games"

innocentanalyst 25th-Apr-2012 02:09 am (UTC)
Thanks!

I've been editing blogs and articles all day. I just spot typos pretty easily. lol

That episode was so good
anna_bea2 25th-Apr-2012 03:06 am (UTC)
i don't remember which season, but it was one where he played like a washed up rock star.
hotcement 25th-Apr-2012 01:49 am (UTC)
and became the highest paid actor on television.

The 2012 Guinness Book of World Records lists his salary at a whopping $700,000 an episode.

i could have sworn the cast of friends were making around $1mil per episode?
innocentanalyst 25th-Apr-2012 01:52 am (UTC)
I'm pretty sure they were. I think it was to bring them back for the last season.
ragechill 25th-Apr-2012 01:56 am (UTC)
They mean currently.
joantastic 25th-Apr-2012 01:50 am (UTC)
i gave up on this show when jennifer morrison's character was ruined so sad to see she's not gonna be in finale
gonerilandregan 25th-Apr-2012 01:52 am (UTC)
I didn't really like Cameron (or, rather, I didn't like what the writers did to Cameron), but it would have been nice to see her. And Cuddy.

That said, I'm glad OUaT is doing well. ONTD got me hooked on that show last month, and it's so good!
therealycats 25th-Apr-2012 03:43 am (UTC)
How did they end Cuddy's storyline? I think the last episode I saw was one or two episodes before he crashed his car into her house. I saw the previews for that episode and was just like, no, I'm done. I can't anymore.

I mean it makes sense that Huddy wouldn't work in the end, but the way they did it just...ugh.
batty_gal 25th-Apr-2012 02:00 am (UTC)
I didn't stop watching, but I was pissed. I really liked Cameron.
emptyobsidian 25th-Apr-2012 02:03 am (UTC)
Did she piss someone off at the show? I don't really follow House or House gossip, but I feel like whoever was writing her character loathed her.
backupblood 25th-Apr-2012 02:07 am (UTC)
If the rumors are true, she was available to do it but wasn't even asked.
akaich0u 25th-Apr-2012 03:04 am (UTC)
I KNOW! That was a horrible exit. Kinda smug w/ glee now that Once Upon a Time is doing better than House.
javamonster983 25th-Apr-2012 01:54 am (UTC)
They better make the finale of this show good. It's gone downhill so much that I just want a good final episode
bienenkiste 25th-Apr-2012 01:56 am (UTC)
seriously it's so sad what this show has become :/
javamonster983 25th-Apr-2012 01:59 am (UTC)
it really is. i loved it so much the first few seasons. i stopped watching the season before this one. i saw the preview for next weeks episode and now i want to know what the hell they think they're doing with wilson here
batty_gal 25th-Apr-2012 02:01 am (UTC)
They should have never fucked with the original team so much. :/
redaodai 25th-Apr-2012 02:02 am (UTC)
I have my blinders on when it comes to this show. It's nowhere as brilliant as it once was, but I still watch. I even liked a few episodes in the most recent season. I will miss it.
abitoflove 25th-Apr-2012 02:29 am (UTC)
mte. I'm going to miss it when it goes...
