"True Blood" ("You Smell Like Dinner," "Spellbound")

Last year HBO continued its dominance of the Emmy Awards nominations, especially in the drama categories with series nods for "Boardwalk Empire" and "Game of Thrones" plus several movies. Acting wins included Peter Dinklage ("Game of Thrones") and Guy Pearce and Kate Winslet ("Mildred Pierce"). Other bids went out to Steve Buscemi and Kelly Macdonald ("Boardwalk Empire"), Bruce Dern ("Big Love"), and Alfre Woodard ("True Blood").

HBO has confirmed with Gold Derby the official acting category submissions for this year. While the actors and actresses listed below are being submitted by the network itself, keep in mind that other eligible performers could be submitting on their own. Notable omissions include Ricky Gervais ("Life's Too Short"), Greg Antonacci, Dominic Chianese, Stephen Graham, and Vincent Piazza ("Boardwalk Empire"), Nicolaj Coster-Waldau and Stephen Dillane ("Game of Thrones"), Katherine Helmond ("True Blood"), Robert Duvall ("Hemingway and Gellhorn"), and Peter MacNicol and Ron Livingston ("Game Change").

Seriously side-eyeing HBO for not submitting Jack Gleeson. Fail move on their part. I hope he submits on his own, but seeing as he recently said he's not too sure about acting I doubt he will. :/ And Lena Headey should totally be submitted as lead, tbh. Otherwise, I approve of the submissions.

#dyingcryingshaking

GO LOBSTER!!

Though I'm side-eying the lack of Michelle Fairley here.

SHE IS IN THERE SHE IS IN THERE SHE IS !!!!!!!!!!!!! SHE BETTER WIN EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!

alaynestone 23rd-Apr-2012 02:23 pm (UTC)
Oh, Michelle Fairley was submitted. It's Stephen Dillane who wasn't. At least, not by the network.
lydzi 23rd-Apr-2012 02:25 pm (UTC)
I just saw I mixed the "is" and "isn't".

WHY? *hugs for confort*
joyeuxcherie 23rd-Apr-2012 02:22 pm (UTC)
Kit Harington should get an Emmy for all his emo faces alone...
lokiyan 23rd-Apr-2012 02:23 pm (UTC)
The Game of Thrones ladies for all the awards!

And IA, OP, Jack Gleeson was fucking robbed. More terrifying than any villain ever on True Blood.
strangephantom 23rd-Apr-2012 02:23 pm (UTC)
game of thrones for all the awards
lydzi 23rd-Apr-2012 02:24 pm (UTC)
Sophie Turner deserves it too. Just if she had the nomination already would be wonderful.
alaynestone 23rd-Apr-2012 02:25 pm (UTC)
I'm glad the girls were submitted this year because they weren't last year. Overall, HBO submitted more GoT actors, so I'm happy.

I mean, Maggie Smith is going to win the Supporting Actress emmy anyway, but I'm crossing my fingers for some nominations for the GoT ladies.
ava_adore0 23rd-Apr-2012 04:26 pm (UTC)
Maggie Smith would be in the miniseries category though wouldn't she? iirc she was last year, and for some reason the Emmys consider Downton Abbey a miniseries rather than tv show.
agnes_perdita 23rd-Apr-2012 05:23 pm (UTC)
I love Maggie Smith and lord knows she's one of the few shining lights of the mess that Downton Abbey season 2 turned out to be, but I don't think she should win for being able to toss out a few choice bon mots every couple of scenes. It's not really great dramatic acting.
backupblood 23rd-Apr-2012 11:28 pm (UTC)
You mean Christina Hendricks, right?
loveumbrella 23rd-Apr-2012 02:24 pm (UTC)
Game of Thrones (Sophie Turner)
Game of Thrones (Maisie Williams)

OH YES to this (and also Michelle and Lena... sorry Emilia). But IA, smh @ them not submitting Jack Gleeson because he deserves all the awards.
leopard_legs 23rd-Apr-2012 03:43 pm (UTC)
I really want to see Sophie, Maisie and Lena in those nominations. I demand it! I love Dany, but Emilia is a god-awful actress...it's like watching amateur dramatics at a school or something.

A lack of Jack Gleeson bothers me, too
joaniemaloney 23rd-Apr-2012 04:44 pm (UTC)
I love those two so much.
they continue to blow me away EVERY EPISODE.
lusushi 23rd-Apr-2012 06:54 pm (UTC)
My sister and I were talking today about how brilliant they are, I'm so pleased they're being submitted!
margerydaw_s2 23rd-Apr-2012 02:24 pm (UTC)
Lena, Michelle, Sophie and Maisie, tho. GOOD ON YOU HBO.
theshadowpuppet 23rd-Apr-2012 02:24 pm (UTC)
Give Emmys to all the actors of Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and Veep tbh.
alaynestone 23rd-Apr-2012 02:26 pm (UTC)
DID YOU LOVE VEEP, TOO?! I FUCKING LOVED IT!

So awkward and facepalmy but in all the best ways.
theshadowpuppet 23rd-Apr-2012 02:30 pm (UTC)
It was amazing. Armando owns my soul and then the cast is so fucking perfect.

I always forget what a good comedic actress Julia actually is.
janacjb 23rd-Apr-2012 02:44 pm (UTC)
I loved it too! It was awesome seeing Tony Hale again and his character is like Buster's high functioning twin brother or something..... All of Busty's quirks are there, but Gary can actually hold down a job.
leopard_legs 23rd-Apr-2012 03:44 pm (UTC)
I want them to show Veep in the UK right now, please
It'll be on sky atlantic soon (probably) BUT I CAN'T WAIT
I LOVE ARMANDO IANUCCI TOO MUCH
lydzi 23rd-Apr-2012 02:26 pm (UTC)
I'll be truthful but I kinda hope Alfie wins over Kit and even Richard. No comparison here possible.
alaynestone 23rd-Apr-2012 02:28 pm (UTC)
I wish I was shocked HBO decided to submit Kit and/or Richard and not submit Jack, but I'm honestly not. The way they've been pushing those two this year (even though both of their performances so far have been pretty meh, imo) is really transparent.

And Alfie for all the awards! Def the best actor out of the three.
margerydaw_s2 23rd-Apr-2012 02:29 pm (UTC)
ia. Alfie's acting is flawfree, he is amazing.
velveteenkitten 23rd-Apr-2012 02:31 pm (UTC)
I agree, he's doing an amazing job, even if they've ruined the character for me with their writing.
Kit and Richard are sadly quite forgettable.
destructo_ray 23rd-Apr-2012 02:33 pm (UTC)
Alfie is a much superior actor than Kit and Richard.
It is known!
luindilwen 23rd-Apr-2012 03:02 pm (UTC)
It is known.
thelovegetaway 23rd-Apr-2012 02:42 pm (UTC)
I do too. I really love him on the show.
starchain 23rd-Apr-2012 02:46 pm (UTC)
I have a comment to make but I need to know if you've read the books before doing so.
simplychristina 23rd-Apr-2012 02:47 pm (UTC)
I was initially skeptical of Alfie's casting, but he's turned out to be such a great Theon.
aphrodite5239 23rd-Apr-2012 02:49 pm (UTC)
D&D are really pushing Alfie this season
I agree, alfie's stepping his game up in the acting department
lcacbc 23rd-Apr-2012 03:39 pm (UTC)
I hate Theon with a fiery passion, but ITA that Alfie is the strongest actor of the three.
leopard_legs 23rd-Apr-2012 03:48 pm (UTC)
Alfie has really surprised me with how great an actor he is. I'd not seen him in much. He blows all the other young actors out of the water.
APART FROM JACK GLEESON. I call shenanigans on him not being nominated.
joaniemaloney 23rd-Apr-2012 04:45 pm (UTC)
Alfie is unbelievable this season and we're only halfway through. I can't believe how well he's working with the new material.
margerydaw_s2 23rd-Apr-2012 02:26 pm (UTC)
Also, my friend thinks Sophie Turner's acting is horrible. She called it "bad trip acting". SMH.
silentsymphonie 23rd-Apr-2012 02:29 pm (UTC)
Ur friends bake inferior lemon cakes
margerydaw_s2 23rd-Apr-2012 02:30 pm (UTC)

qween_tartii 23rd-Apr-2012 02:54 pm (UTC)
what the fuck is bad trip acting? :/
leopard_legs 23rd-Apr-2012 03:48 pm (UTC)
Your friend knows of nothing.
The bad actress is quite clearly Emilia Clarke (I don't hate her or anything, just...what is she doing)
love_keiko 23rd-Apr-2012 04:34 pm (UTC)
lol, wut?

FALSE.

sophie's been on point from the start.
