Well there are plenty of hypoallergenic dogs in shelters. My boyfriend is allergic to most dogs, so when I was looking on petfinder I narrowed my search and found plenty of options. We ended up with a yorkie/shig tzu mix who he has no issues with.

People with disabilities are a different story. They need dogs bred with abilities to help them. Most people who want dogs don't and don't need to spend over $1000 on a puppy from a breeder when they can go to their local shelter and save a life.

I hear what you're saying, but you're not gonna expect a blind person who by government mandate has to have a specific ~certified~ breed of dog, or a police station who uses a particular breed of dog for search an rescue to agree with that. I personally love the idea of adopting a rescue dog; but I'm allergic to nothing, am perfectly healthy, and I wouldn't use the dog for anything other than being my bb an companion with my spouse. So yea I agree w/ what you're saying.
