Some Of The Most Annoying Movie Errors

''Girl, Interrupted (1999) is set in 1967. Some of the women leave the hospital and want to get jobs at Walt Disney World in Florida. They will have a very long wait, as Walt Disney World did not open until 1971, four years later.''

''In the new Clash of the Titans remake (with mini-skirted Sam Worthington), it bugs the hell out of me that Zeus's eagle is a bald eagle. Bald eagles are not native to the Mediterranean! Golden eagles are! Not that that's the only screw-up in that movie, but it really bothered me when I saw it for the first time.''

''In When Harry Met Sally, the title characters are supposed to be driving from Chicago to New York. But a shot of them on Lake Shore Drive shows them clearly heading south towards downtown Chicago from the north side — which means they are heading to the University of Chicago, not away from it.'

''The movie In and Out turns on Kevin Kline's character getting 'outted' at the Oscars by a former student in his acceptance speech. One week later, Kline's Mr. Brackett 'comes out' at his wedding. Despite being fired by the school's principal shortly after the ceremony, Mr. Brackett chooses to attend the school's graduation ceremony THE FOLLOWING DAY. Now, I confess that some schools use different calendars, but is anyone aware of a school that holds its graduation ceremony in either late February or early March, which is when the Oscars take place?''

''Moneyball takes place in 2002, but the song the daughter sings ('The Show') was not released until 2008.''

''The movie Outbreak is about a virus that came from Africa, specifically Zaire. The monkey they chose to star in it is a South American capuchin.''

''In Titanic, Kate Winslet shows Cal her paintings by Monet and Picasso, including ''Les Demoiselles d'Avignon,'' which currently hangs in MOMA. Unless someone saved them while the ship was sinking (which I doubt), they would be at the bottom of the ocean (which they aren't).''

''The first one that always comes to mind is in Never Been Kissed. Drew Barrymore and the Denominators are at some school fair, and they have a sign that is supposed to be Pi — but only the 3.14 part is correct. Every number afterwards is wrong. Why bother putting more numbers if you aren't going to look up the right ones?''

nitpicking errors in a movie about gods and krakens seems like a bit of a stretch.
slaughtermatic 22nd-Apr-2012 06:10 pm (UTC)
I know right if Zeus wanted a fucking bald eagle he could've fucking created one out of pocket lint jfc he's a god

xdecadentx 23rd-Apr-2012 10:07 am (UTC)
LOL seriously.
liberateourtime 22nd-Apr-2012 06:08 pm (UTC)
i was too busy being an offended classics major during clash of the titans to give a shit about eagle breeds
hotbroccoli435 22nd-Apr-2012 06:33 pm (UTC)
Ugh, this. Everything about that movie was AWFUL. I'm ashamed I paid to see it. Sam didn't even look good. :(
liberateourtime 22nd-Apr-2012 06:35 pm (UTC)
i spent the entire movie leaning over to my friends and going, "THAT'S NOT HOW THE MYTH GOES THEY ARE RUINING IT. HADES ISN'T LIKE THAT THIS ISN'T HOW IT WORKS NOOOO."
c_nedra 22nd-Apr-2012 06:40 pm (UTC)
Samesies. It was the WORST.
notoriousreign 22nd-Apr-2012 06:57 pm (UTC)
Ifkr? But it's gotten to the point where any movie set in Ancient Greece or about Greek mythology, is never accurate to the stories.
crclmomrub 22nd-Apr-2012 07:05 pm (UTC)
agreed.
windsong_moon 22nd-Apr-2012 07:22 pm (UTC)
I've never been so mad at a movie before. For the same reason, too. :[
watchsnowfall 22nd-Apr-2012 07:40 pm (UTC)
It is like the one fucking mythic romance where the woman isn't fucking burned or abandoned on some island. INSTEAD THEY LET A COW COME BETWEEN PERSEUS AND ANDROMEDA.
sadisticsidhe 22nd-Apr-2012 09:12 pm (UTC)
Not a classic major but the same. I mean why change it? The myths are fucked up/entertaining enough WITHOUT the changes.
agatharuncible 22nd-Apr-2012 09:42 pm (UTC)
I didn't even watch the movie because I saw the trailer and it was enough for me.
fuckyess 23rd-Apr-2012 03:42 am (UTC)
what the fuck do you do with a classics major

no offense
katrinar 23rd-Apr-2012 01:21 pm (UTC)
me too! and i grew up loving the original from the 60s cause it was damned bad and fun. 10 years post-degree and anything that's supposedly classic mythology/history makes my skin crawl.

i walked out of Alexander.
mondengel 23rd-Apr-2012 04:20 pm (UTC)
I'm a classics major and I haven't seen any of the Titans movies, but my uni's classics society usually arranges a trip to see them, to shake fists at the screen all night!
punishermax 22nd-Apr-2012 06:08 pm (UTC)
That last one is funny because the film title pretty much describes anyone who uses the phrase "Why bother putting more numbers if you aren't going to look up the right ones?".
liberateourtime 22nd-Apr-2012 06:13 pm (UTC)
das some serious shade you be throwing at people who can do math, gurl.
punishermax 22nd-Apr-2012 06:16 pm (UTC)
I just don't like that tone of voice, I'm like, I'll put numbers all over my shit, I don't care.

GOD DAMN YOU I DON'T CARE
stephaniebrown 22nd-Apr-2012 06:17 pm (UTC)
qorl i'd say something about you shading math geeks but i don't wanna go off on a tangent.

sorry for your uneducated ass :(
keziah42 22nd-Apr-2012 06:08 pm (UTC)
I love Girl, Interrupted.
sky3205 22nd-Apr-2012 06:32 pm (UTC)
me too. I actually saw it on tv a few years ago for the first time. Angelina did a great work with her character
crclmomrub 22nd-Apr-2012 07:10 pm (UTC)
Me too! The "'You chased a bottle of aspirin with a bottle of vodka' 'I had a headache.'" exchange is one of my favorite exchanges between characters of all time. I work in mental health & although they don't necessarily use that response, some of the patients who have attempted suicide this way truly do explain their medication + alcohol overdoses this way...Often preceded by "This is all a huge misunderstanding!:
lissalynn 22nd-Apr-2012 11:17 pm (UTC)
One of my favorites as far as working in healthcare is in the Virgin Suicides (book and movie) when the doctor tells one of the girls "you're not old enough to know how hard life gets" or something like that and she responds "Obviously, Doctor, you've never been a 13 year old girl".
fanskap 22nd-Apr-2012 07:25 pm (UTC)
me too, perfect movie <3

winona should have short hair forever and ever. I always end up being jealous of her when I watch it, her style is impeccable in it
bcain1992 22nd-Apr-2012 08:59 pm (UTC)
Me too. It's so underrated.
hangthemj 23rd-Apr-2012 01:11 am (UTC)
i love it too. it's actually one of the few times i've liked the movie better than the book tbh.
cherisheddreams 23rd-Apr-2012 03:01 am (UTC)
me too, it's one of my absolute favorites
fuckyess 23rd-Apr-2012 03:45 am (UTC)
me too

i read the book in one sitting, too
lunaisawhore 22nd-Apr-2012 06:09 pm (UTC)
hahaha the titanic shit was ridiculous. oh yes i just happen to have some picassos here with me, no biggie
liberateourtime 22nd-Apr-2012 06:11 pm (UTC)
well we all know how well rose takes care of her possessions.
what with throwing a GIANT DIAMOND NECKLACE INTO THE SEA.
lickety_split 22nd-Apr-2012 06:20 pm (UTC)
And surprisingly, the alternate version of that scene is EVEN DUMBER than the scene that made it into the movie.
sequined_bones 22nd-Apr-2012 11:40 pm (UTC)
omg i'm dying at this idk why
beatlesluv 22nd-Apr-2012 06:15 pm (UTC)
LMAO IA. Ugh Picasso though <333333
modern_toilet 22nd-Apr-2012 06:33 pm (UTC)
picasso didn't get big until after the titanic. it makes sense that no one would really know who he was.
frklphace 22nd-Apr-2012 06:39 pm (UTC)
but picasso wasn't a famous artist until after the titanic, so yes she could have owned plenty and for quite cheap as she said.
mynamehere07 22nd-Apr-2012 06:48 pm (UTC)
I was actually more bothered by the fact that Jack's pencil sketch on paper survived under the water for about 85 years.
minderbinder 22nd-Apr-2012 07:31 pm (UTC)
He made several studies of that particular painting before exhibiting it a few years after the Titanic sank, so it's possible that Rose may have purchased a study in 1912 (even though he was really private about that painting and its development, but let's say they were really really close or some shit lol). But still. That's a stretch since the one in the movie is clearly supposed to be the actual painting since it's one of his most recognizable.
grapefruitzzz 23rd-Apr-2012 01:10 am (UTC)
I fell out of my seat in the cinema literally rofling at that.
lloydsgurl 22nd-Apr-2012 06:10 pm (UTC)
In When Harry Met Sally, the title characters are supposed to be driving from Chicago to New York. But a shot of them on Lake Shore Drive shows them clearly heading south towards downtown Chicago from the north side — which means they are heading to the University of Chicago, not away from it.'

um maybe Sally forgot something and they had to go back. way to nitpick.
peacetrains 22nd-Apr-2012 06:11 pm (UTC)
lol ikr? girl can't make a u-turn? damn
beatlesluv 22nd-Apr-2012 06:15 pm (UTC)
LMAO I dunno why im laughing so hard at this comment.
bananasnrum 22nd-Apr-2012 06:35 pm (UTC)
maybe the dan ryan was a parking lot!
emmakey 22nd-Apr-2012 09:03 pm (UTC)
No way. It may not have been stated where Sally was living, but someone as practical as Sally would have lived near campus and never would have dealt with a daily commute to Hyde Park from the North Side.

And no way Sally would forget anything. That girl would have had 3 packing checklists.

Rob Reiner probably was afraid of scaring audiences of scenery of NW Indiana, where they might have actually been driving, and went with the photogenic Chicago skyline instead.
creative_candy 22nd-Apr-2012 06:10 pm (UTC)
i love movie mistakes...
lloydsgurl 22nd-Apr-2012 06:10 pm (UTC)
also, on Titanic I think Leo references a Lake that doesn't exist or something.

fluxy_2535 22nd-Apr-2012 06:18 pm (UTC)
Yeah, it's a manmade lake that didn't exist until the 1930's I think.
bostongirl2003 22nd-Apr-2012 06:20 pm (UTC)
he talks about ice-fishing on a lake that was man-made, and not created until after the ship sank, you're right.
unintended 23rd-Apr-2012 01:16 am (UTC)
Woot Lake Wissota, Wisconsin represent!
baileysmama01 23rd-Apr-2012 02:15 am (UTC)
Oh, yeah. That was one of the mistakes they addressed RIGHT after the release.
leviicorpus 22nd-Apr-2012 06:10 pm (UTC)
That is one of the least annoying problems with Girl, Interrupted lbr.

I was really bugged in Signs that the aliens are allergic (or something) to water, yet they were running around in fields in the morning...heard of dew? Not to mention that our air would kill them, it has humidity!
truthisadrug 22nd-Apr-2012 06:30 pm (UTC)
"heard of dew", i am literally laughing out loud
bananasnrum 22nd-Apr-2012 06:36 pm (UTC)
YES
algore_galore 22nd-Apr-2012 06:42 pm (UTC)
also those fucking aliens could jump up on a roof, but were too weak to break down a door? COME ON
miabloodymia 22nd-Apr-2012 06:55 pm (UTC)
and they're invading a planet made up of 1/3 water. seriously, bad planning aliens.
babaycakes0088 22nd-Apr-2012 08:02 pm (UTC)
1/3? More like almost 3/4
xdecadentx 23rd-Apr-2012 10:13 am (UTC)
Yeah, that's what someone said to me, they were like 'er-didn't they see the water from space?'
porifera_robert 22nd-Apr-2012 09:40 pm (UTC)
oh lord, that movie is the worst!
with all the planets out there they pick the only one (that we know of) with water!
ellelelle 22nd-Apr-2012 06:11 pm (UTC)

parisdiorchanel 22nd-Apr-2012 06:14 pm (UTC)
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think I remember Lisa watching a show about Disney being built when she couldn't sleep.

ALSO IN TITANIC, THE STARS WERE WRONG.
grammaire 22nd-Apr-2012 06:16 pm (UTC)
He changed it in the 3D release tho!
maveness 22nd-Apr-2012 06:34 pm (UTC)
I admit, I jumped up and down when I went to see it in 3D (don't, it gave me a headache, but I did it for a friend) when I saw the stars. Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson for the win!
diosabellissima 22nd-Apr-2012 07:11 pm (UTC)
It really did look so much better. I've always said that the sky in the sinking part always looked super fake (it was a real strange blue color)--- so, when they changed the stars, they updated the whole sky and it looked SO much better.
baileysmama01 23rd-Apr-2012 02:20 am (UTC)
Ok, I want to see it in 3D now. Dammit. lol
silentsymphonie 22nd-Apr-2012 06:34 pm (UTC)
It gives me life that someone knows star charts from the early 1900's so well that they simply HAD to write to David Cameron about it.
sprywonderdog 22nd-Apr-2012 06:37 pm (UTC)
I LOVE hearing Neil deGrasse Tyson rant about that.
parisdiorchanel 22nd-Apr-2012 06:13 pm (UTC)
I love Girl, Interrupted.
itseasiersaid 22nd-Apr-2012 06:14 pm (UTC)
My mom would love this post. She always finds continuation errors in movies and points them out. It drives me nuts

LMAO YES
agatharuncible 23rd-Apr-2012 12:38 am (UTC)

caulifloral 23rd-Apr-2012 03:10 pm (UTC)
my mom practically tears her hair out anytime somebody forgets to close a door behind them or leaves their car glove compartment hanging open in a movie.
