"Opening Film:
Moonrise Kingdom, Wes Anderson"

oh..
lovejoydiver 19th-Apr-2012 11:11 am (UTC)
lol they never pick very good opening films tbh, but hey at least it's not the da vinci code or robin hood and this mean that tilda will at least show up?
daijouboo 19th-Apr-2012 11:15 am (UTC)
Her newest movie Snowpiercer sounds really interesting in a No Exit kind of way.
affliction 19th-Apr-2012 11:18 am (UTC)
"and this mean that tilda will at least show up?"

queencleopatra 19th-Apr-2012 11:11 am (UTC)
Madagascar 3 was under consideration?!!
lovejoydiver 19th-Apr-2012 11:13 am (UTC)
it's not playing in competition and cannes always has some random hollywood films premiering there- last year, potc 4 and kung fu panda 2 also premiered there.
queencleopatra 19th-Apr-2012 11:28 am (UTC)
Oh lol.
winegums 19th-Apr-2012 02:16 pm (UTC)
Yeah, remember the year they premiered Revenge of the Sith there?

(at least Kung Fu Panda 1 and 2 were good films)
daijouboo 19th-Apr-2012 11:14 am (UTC)
I'm looking forward to Killing Them Softly. Andrew Dominik's previous effort The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is one of my favorites. Lawless, formerly known as The Wettest County in the World (wonder why they changed the title lol), could be interesting because the cast is,for the most part, flawless. I'm morbidly curious about The Paperboy since it's Lee Daniels directing Zac Ephron. I'm excited for On the Road mostly because of Sam Riley. My ex saw Beasts of the Southern Wild at Sundance and said it is extraordinary.
lovejoydiver 19th-Apr-2012 11:28 am (UTC)
ugh yes, the assassination of jesse james is unquestionably my fav film of the past decade or so, so dominik pretty much gets a carte blanche from me for life. and jealous about beasts of the southern wild! i've heard that it's very malick/early david gordon green-like, which sounds like i'll eat it up.
daijouboo 19th-Apr-2012 11:40 am (UTC)
Yeah, I'm happy that so many of these movies were filmed in New Orleans because it is one of my favorite cities ever. It actually upsets me how much David Gordon Green has sold out. I mean The Sitter? Come the fuck on!
winonaforever 19th-Apr-2012 11:48 am (UTC)
Ita. Jesse James is a masterpiece!
bresson 19th-Apr-2012 12:15 pm (UTC)
I'm dying to see Beasts of the Southern Wild I'm so excited for it to be released
anna_bea2 19th-Apr-2012 04:44 pm (UTC)
Loved Jesse James <3. I'm still pressed that Casey Affleck was going to be in Killing Them Softly but had to drop out.
tangerinefriday 19th-Apr-2012 11:58 pm (UTC)
YES. These are exactly the same films I'm interested in too.

The Paperboy might be good, it's based on a book by Pete Dexter and he's usually on point. Wettest County was a genius book, so I'm hoping that movie is good too.
pennylane101 19th-Apr-2012 11:14 am (UTC)
no magic mike?
no_x_doubts 19th-Apr-2012 02:44 pm (UTC)

janvierjuillet 19th-Apr-2012 11:29 am (UTC)
Cannes has become such a predictable yawnfest nowadays
thesegoto11 19th-Apr-2012 11:38 am (UTC)
people will probably be woken up by the screams of crazy fangirls

I was expecting "the master" to be in the line-up
lovejoydiver 19th-Apr-2012 11:55 am (UTC)
it has an october release date already, so maybe they're waiting for venice for oscar buzz reasons?
thesegoto11 19th-Apr-2012 12:03 pm (UTC)
yeah maybe
that actually sounds better. cannes is going to be insane this year.
I can already see the headlines.

affliction 19th-Apr-2012 12:03 pm (UTC)
omg yes i forgot about that one!

really looking forward to it. the cast, ugh, i'm gonna faint.
dives 19th-Apr-2012 11:42 am (UTC)
omg!! go jeff!!!!

I want to see all of them tbh, I am nondiscriminatory

but I am kinda curious about Hemingway and Gellhorn since Jeffrey Jones is in it and I'm surprised people are willing to employ a registered sex offender

NO WOMEN DIRECTED FILMS WILL BE IN THE MAIN COMPETITION AT CANNES.

Edited at 2012-04-19 11:44 am (UTC)
malorn 19th-Apr-2012 02:33 pm (UTC)
I read this as well. Four last year. Zero this year. Indiewire is asking that readers post names of women who could have been/should have been on Cannes' short list. It is a sad state of affairs.
daijouboo 19th-Apr-2012 05:12 pm (UTC)
That makes me so sad.
joaniemaloney 20th-Apr-2012 02:11 am (UTC)
awful.
loganx2 19th-Apr-2012 11:44 am (UTC)
Would Cannes even happen if they couldnt have a Brad or Angie movie every year?
winonaforever 19th-Apr-2012 11:46 am (UTC)
Nah, they would cancel the festival, obviously.
lovejoydiver 19th-Apr-2012 11:50 am (UTC)
they're going to have to compete with ~robsten~ for attention this year though! lol the paparazzi is going to be INSANE.
bcain1992 19th-Apr-2012 12:05 pm (UTC)
lmao ikr? They're obsessed with them.
emerald_soul 19th-Apr-2012 11:48 am (UTC)
LOL Twilight fans shall descend upon Cannes.

I hope things can actually be focused on the films rather than if RPattz and KStew walk the carpets as a couple etc. etc.

I think that's too much to ask though.

Edited at 2012-04-19 11:48 am (UTC)
courtkneee1 19th-Apr-2012 11:51 am (UTC)
idk how crazy that hutcherson kid's fans are but probably him too

i like what they're all in though so w/e
emerald_soul 19th-Apr-2012 11:53 am (UTC)
Does he have a movie in there too? I didn't see that.

I saw Zefron though. It's definitely gonna be fangirl fest 2012 lmao
allmannerofsins 19th-Apr-2012 02:27 pm (UTC)
Sorry aren't you one of those 'Twilight fans' I've seen you in comms etc...
courtkneee1 19th-Apr-2012 11:50 am (UTC)
haneke forever and always!

but seriously this year seems so exciting.
in_suburb 19th-Apr-2012 12:40 pm (UTC)
Oh he's my favorite director.
anniemann101 19th-Apr-2012 11:58 am (UTC)
love wes anderosn films! but the trailer for "moonrise kingdom" is a little let down.

kirsten stewart and robert pattison tagged... wtf? lol
minderbinder 19th-Apr-2012 01:05 pm (UTC)
Robert's in Cosmopolis and KStew is in On the Road.

It's crazy really. Lol.
allmannerofsins 19th-Apr-2012 02:29 pm (UTC)
Cosmopolis & On The Road. Learn the names they will obviously be winning all the awards.
