Alan Rickman, Judi Dench have ‘perfect’ voices, researchers say

Apparently, the key to having the perfect voice is being British.

Researchers in the U.K. have mathematically determined that the perfect voice for men lies somewhere between those of British actors Jeremy Irons and Alan Rickman. (Professor Snape in the "Harry Potter" movies did always have a way with words.) For women, it's somewhere near the voice of James Bond's M, 77-year-old thespian Dame Judi Dench.

A linguist and a sound engineer reportedly worked out their formula based on a combination of tone, speed, frequency, words per minute, and intonation. According to the researchers, the ideal voice should vocalize no more than 164 words per minute and pause for 0.48 seconds between sentences, which should fall rather than rise. (Apparently raising your voice is associated with weakness!)

The results? Slow and steady wins the race.

Jeremy Irons, the 63-year-old star of the Showtime drama "The Borgias," comes close, speaking 200 words per minute and taking 1.2-second pauses between sentences.

Aside from Judi Dench, researchers also gave top marks to U.K. celebrity Mariella Frostrup. The 39-year-old TV presenter, who has denied rumours that she dated George Clooney, allegedly mesmerizes men with her deep, slow, confident words.

No offense to those sweet-sounding celebs, but we have to call foul on these results! Any list of perfect voices that doesn't include Morgan Freeman is obviously flawed.

The whole cast was great, and yeah, I like that they all really like each other and hang out together. I read an interview with Lily Rabe right before the three of them left and she said how they were all picking fights with each other, because they were already getting separation anxiety. I thought that was so cute, ngl.

I agree! Justin is probably an excellent Martin.

Yes, I read that too! They are all so cute, I felt really sad when Alan's, Hamish's, and Lily's run was over. I hope they all stay close!

Alan went to some event that was honoring Lily a few days ago, found it via tumblr.

Awww. So cute :)

I know someone who went to the reading of Hamish's play (Alan and Sigourney Weaver read it), and Lily showed up and I guess at the reception her and Alan hugged each other and talked alone for a real long time while his arms were still wrapped around her. I think that's super sweet!

That's so sweet! I remember hearing about that reading, and I looked for reports on it but couldn't find anything (love Sigourney as well, so I was bummed when nothing turned up, even on tumblr).

I read about it on an Alan Rickman forum. I think you have to be registered to see the content, but here is the link! http://page394.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=meetingtehman&action=display&thread=2243

Oh yeah, I can't see it, boo! Maybe I'll make a throwaway account later. Thanks though!
