Pippa Middleton Faces Arrest for Gun Incident in Paris

Pippa Middleton could face jail time if prosecuted in a shocking new case involving a paparazzi photo taken in Paris on Saturday.

The 27-year-old socialite and entrepreneur, sister of Duchess Kate and sister-in-law of Prince William, was in the front passenger seat of an Audi convertible in the French capital as the driver pointed a semi-automatic handgun at photographers.
A witness in the gun-waving incident charged a formal complaint with Paris police; Middleton (plus her pal, fashion mogul Arthur de Soultrait, who was in the backseat of the car) will be summoned if authorities determine there is enough evidence for prosecution.

"If the evidence points to [Pippa Middleton's] involvement, she will be prosecuted," a judicial source told Us Weekly. "Anybody involved in the illegal use of a handgun in public is liable to arrest and interrogation."

If the pistol turns out to be real, the unidentified man waving the gun faces up to seven years in prison; even if the weapon is fake, he faces two years.

With heightened, anti-terrorist security measures currently in place in France, it is "absolutely forbidden" for anyone to use a gun to "warn people off" in the county, a police source explained to Us. "If someone has a license then for a weapon then it must be kept covered at all times, and away from members of the public."

Middleton, who became an international star almost exactly a year ago at her 30-year-old sister's royal wedding to Prince William, 29, was in Paris for Soultrait's 29th birthday bash on Friday.

I know this will come across as ignorant but what ha happened recently
wapped 16th-Apr-2012 04:32 pm (UTC)
In March, a gunman killed 3 soldiers. He then targeted a Jewish school killing a Rabbi and 3 children. It happened over a period of 8 days and no one knew when he would strike again. Some thought the killings were racially incited...the country was on high alert...it naturally caused a lot of panic. They did find the guy and he was shot in a stand-off with police.

So yeah, brandishing a gun in public is particulary insensitive right now.
realityvsdreams 16th-Apr-2012 04:32 pm (UTC)
A gunmen went on a rampage. He targeted French troops on two separate occasions (killing 3) and then a few days later killed a Rabbi and 3 children at a Jewish day school. He was killed by police in a gun fight but it was scary for awhile when no one knew where he was.

Not that I care about Pippa Middleton, but this seems stupid. If she wasn't the one holding the gun, why should she face arrest?
hertuattar 16th-Apr-2012 03:36 pm (UTC)
Yeah, if all spoiled brats got arrested each time they did something stupid, we'd have no news...

also
"even if the weapon is fake, he faces two years"
WAT
sky3205 16th-Apr-2012 04:01 pm (UTC)
It is the same situation if someone made a fake bomb and put it in public. It's for safety issues
realityvsdreams 16th-Apr-2012 04:02 pm (UTC)
lol the gun looks pretty real, it's not like it's a pink super soaker or something. You can't just wave a real looking gun around in public and aim it at strangers and expect nothing to happen, even if it is fake.

besides two years is probably the maximum sentence and he'll only get like community service or a fine or something.
jinxeh13 17th-Apr-2012 05:33 pm (UTC)
Yup. People take that shit seriously. I take part in zombie walks across Ohio, and I always go as a human survivor. Our guns have to be orange-tipped, and obviously fake, or else we can't use them because we / the event coordinators could get in some serious trouble.
xdecadentx 16th-Apr-2012 03:41 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I mean I'd understand if she was holding it, but for being in the front seat?

silentxstrom 16th-Apr-2012 03:28 pm (UTC)

I've also heard that if a person with suicidal tendencies has access to a gun (parents have one in the house, whatever), they are much more likely to actually kill themselves, since shooting yourself ends up seeming like a quick way to do it.

omg a few weeks ago a friend left a facebook status that said something like "how is the fact that Zimmerman was in possession of a loaded firearm while stalking a 17 year old okay? this country." and some guy was like "SECOND AMENDMENT!" Like fuck you dude, your second amendment right should not trample on other people's rights TO LIVE.
modern_toilet 16th-Apr-2012 04:12 pm (UTC)
you guys seem so fucking scared of each other, as if any day now someone is going to barge into your house and kill you
sekhmet2 16th-Apr-2012 04:20 pm (UTC)
I couldn't agree more. I get so made at so many of the people on my Facebook who are still living where I grew up and are all "IF I CAN'T HAVE MY GUNS IN THE BACK WINDOW OF MY PICKUP TRUCK, THIS COUNTRY IS GOIN' TO HELL!!!!". smh
shania_cares 16th-Apr-2012 04:40 pm (UTC)
Wasn't the second amendment created so the US could arm militia and have an armed opposition should the government forcibly trample on their rights? Like, I understand wanting to protect yourself, but really, most Americans can't even pick out China on a map. Do you really want these kind of people being able to so casually brandish a deadly weapon?
traversant 16th-Apr-2012 07:52 pm (UTC)
This SFM. You do not need a gun, get the fuck over yourself.
sweet_honesty 16th-Apr-2012 10:41 pm (UTC)
I agree.
browniecakemix 17th-Apr-2012 05:47 pm (UTC)
I agree, but the U.S. is weird, and it's a very large country with a lot of rural areas in which it could take the police over half an hour to get to you in an emergency. A lot of the gun extremists are just nuts, I warrant you, but after that "Grizzly Mama" thing a while back I understand why people in certain regions are so adamant about holding onto guns for protection.
one_hoopy_frood 16th-Apr-2012 03:20 pm (UTC)
That said the implication that Pippa had anything to do with this is dumb.
wapped 16th-Apr-2012 03:46 pm (UTC)
The pictures seem to indicate she made no attempt to stop him, but rather smiled and played along. That may not implicate her legally but it speaks volumes in terms of her idiocy. She deserves backlash tbh.
one_hoopy_frood 16th-Apr-2012 03:59 pm (UTC)

snow_cherries 16th-Apr-2012 03:36 pm (UTC)
I couldn't tell the difference between a fake and a real gun unless it was in my hands. If someone points a gun at me, whether or not it's real, I'll be beyond terrified and willing to do whatever it takes to save my life. If you're using it to threaten someone, it doesn't matter if it's fake; it has the same effect. Also, if the police gets involved, they probably won't know right away that it's fake. Realistically, the guy wasn't going to shoot someone in broad daylight with photographic evidence, but it's still a dumb move with potentially serious consequences.
snortingcoke 16th-Apr-2012 03:46 pm (UTC)
given the murder spree they recently had, i'm not even surprised

heartstopper 16th-Apr-2012 03:59 pm (UTC)
first of all, france. not the entirety of europe. also considering a lone gun man killed several soldiers, children and a rabbi on a shooting spree less than a month ago, vigilance is important.
kaiserschmarrn 16th-Apr-2012 04:00 pm (UTC)
Uhm two years may be a bit harsh but it's not about his intention to shoot someone, it's about him using a gun to threaten someone - whether it's real or just real-looking doesn't matter to the person who's threatened.
flaming_poof 16th-Apr-2012 04:01 pm (UTC)
surely you mean France rather than the entire continent
mirror_mirror 16th-Apr-2012 04:04 pm (UTC)

I always wonder at semi-automatics. I understand some people want guns for hunting or self-protection, but wouldn't a regular rifle or handgun suffice? idk if something easier to discharge should be available to the public.
