Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Bill Cosby sits down with David Gregory in a PRESS Pass interview and defends President Obama’s actions during his time in office, saying Obama’s battling people who seem to want him to fail. Cosby added that the president has displayed an enviable level of patience in explaining the tough positions he’s had to take to help America rebound from the financial meltdown.

i've always heard about people having a "conniption"

but i'd never seen one

"It's a head!"
"Well get the salad spoons, man!"

"I asked him, what is it about cocaine that makes it so great?"
"Well it intensifies your personality."
"And I said, well what if you're an asshole?"

And he just smiles. Perfect fucking comedic timing.
loganx2 15th-Apr-2012 10:32 pm (UTC)
I am so not looking forward to this election year. I feel that the world had got dumber the last couple of years (and didnt think that was possible). I dont care if you aren't happy with Obama and the things he has or hasnt done there is no other choice...period.
executivehpfan 15th-Apr-2012 10:35 pm (UTC)
This. ^^ I always feel like this country as a whole is ridiculously stupid. See: twice elected President Shrub.
for_serious13 15th-Apr-2012 10:38 pm (UTC)
pretty much
sprywonderdog 15th-Apr-2012 10:38 pm (UTC)
I'm a lot more comfortable now that it is definitely going to be Obama and Romney. As much as I don't like where Romney stands on the issues, I'm glad that it will be two intelligent people. The yokels can go find a third party dingus and allow their willful ignorance shine bright.
loganx2 15th-Apr-2012 10:39 pm (UTC)
right now Im just worried on who Romney is going to pick for VP.
patronuscharms 16th-Apr-2012 12:39 am (UTC)
Anyone with the opinions that Romney has about women and reality in general cannot be intelligent.

forgethissmile 16th-Apr-2012 12:21 am (UTC)
This. I'm so painfully unhappy with Obama, but like hell if I want Romney as our president. The last thing we need is a faceless business-obsessive, out-of-touch rich white guy to seal the deal. Big businesses run the show ENOUGH already.
mammary_glands 16th-Apr-2012 12:34 am (UTC)
i really wish there was a third party.
executivehpfan 15th-Apr-2012 10:34 pm (UTC)
Lawd, here we go.

Granted some people expect him to be the Messiah and others will attack President Negro over inconsequential bullshit, it is possible to both like him and be critical of him.

Obama >>>>>>>>>>> Mittens so I'm happy to have him for another four years.
ritzyroxie 15th-Apr-2012 10:37 pm (UTC)
mte. I don't love him or hate him, but I know he's better than the alternative.
for_serious13 15th-Apr-2012 10:40 pm (UTC)
people act like he's the first president to not do what he promised during his campaign trail. Have they missed every other presidency?

I DO like some of the things he's done, he was dealt a crap hand and is making the best of it. of course i'm not thrilled with everything but good GOD he is better than Romney
loganx2 15th-Apr-2012 10:41 pm (UTC)
this.
exromances 15th-Apr-2012 10:44 pm (UTC)
i was going to make my own comment in this post but idk what the point would be after reading this. A+, IAx1000, etc.
forgethissmile 16th-Apr-2012 12:24 am (UTC)
Seriously. Obama's presidency is the embodiment of white privilege. Don't get me wrong; he's done a lot of things that would upset me had Clinton done it (and forget about Bush). But oh my God he cannot do a thing right in the public eye. And the fact that people think he's some magical dictator who can solve everything.
ladypolitik 16th-Apr-2012 01:11 am (UTC)
it is possible to both like him and be critical of him.

Seriously -- that's how it's done in Canada, anyway, so the DO OR DIE attitude among way too many Americans will never cease to blow my mind.
ritzyroxie 15th-Apr-2012 10:36 pm (UTC)
ita with everything he said, but why is he being interviewed for Meet the Press? He's as irrelevant as Kirk Cameron.
rogue 15th-Apr-2012 10:55 pm (UTC)
not really...
i mean even if the cosby show is decades old it was incredibly relevant to television history. as is he, by extension.

Edited at 2012-04-15 10:55 pm (UTC)
ritzyroxie 15th-Apr-2012 11:07 pm (UTC)
You're right, but I still don't get why he's on a sunday morning political show. It would make more sense if he was saying this on Piers Morgan or something, imo.
lynn_heart 15th-Apr-2012 11:01 pm (UTC)
Bill Cosby is a legend, not to mention intelligent as well. Celebrities' opinions are always wanted on politics anyway.

Oprah, for example...
la_fours 15th-Apr-2012 11:02 pm (UTC)
idts, Bill Cosby is eternally relevant.
grammaire 15th-Apr-2012 11:50 pm (UTC)
wrong
forgethissmile 16th-Apr-2012 12:25 am (UTC)
I get a sinking feeling he got interviewed because he's a respected, educated black man and show business loves to lump groups of people together like that.
prophecypro 15th-Apr-2012 10:39 pm (UTC)
He walked into a tough situation
violue 15th-Apr-2012 10:40 pm (UTC)
lol there's a link to him talking about Trayvon Martin on my yahoo mail homepage (shut up) and I was thinking "what a random celeb to be asking" and then I come here and he's just chilling on the top post

really? when the news about trayvon martin first broke, the first thing i said to my mom was 'i wonder what bill cosby has to say about this'.
voyevoda 15th-Apr-2012 10:41 pm (UTC)
I wish Canada could have an Obama-type figure to get everyone all fired up to vote. :C Closest we had was Layton and...sadface.
fakevoices 15th-Apr-2012 10:50 pm (UTC)
oh girl don't get me started on canada and our lack of interest in what is going on in how politics

hopefully all the people that have been or will be fired in the next few months will get some people fired up. because harper and his government are fucking with this country and i don't like it
voyevoda 16th-Apr-2012 01:03 am (UTC)
Agreed.

Our provincial election is coming up and I'm fired up after I found out the Wildrose party leader is a anti-abortion, homophobic piece of shit (and she's one of the more popular people this time around apparently, eff that).

Nenshi's pretty rad on a municipal level, but I agree.

regardless of whether or not obama's presidency has gone well, i'm just happy that the racism that so many americans have been hiding has come out. i want people to remember the obama moment well because it proves that all the stupid fucks who think we live in a post-racial world are WRONG

ladypolitik 16th-Apr-2012 01:14 am (UTC)
Yup. That shit was barely able to contain itself during election 2008, so it's been interesting to watch your own predictions about the racist landscape of the U.S. almost entirely fulfilled.
kin_der 15th-Apr-2012 10:53 pm (UTC)
I'm a little freaked out how much Bill Cosby looks like my grandpa in that video. (You know, other than that whole my grandpa isn't Bill Cosby thing.) It's in the face, eyes and the beard. Weird.
setsuna16 16th-Apr-2012 12:25 am (UTC)
His eyes scare me... I mean, I presume they're cataracts, and that it's because he's as old as he is, but damn, the way they're so shiny...
rogue 15th-Apr-2012 10:54 pm (UTC)
CANNOT WAIT to cast my vote for obama in the next election
cricketgrl 15th-Apr-2012 10:56 pm (UTC)
Me too, I just fear EVERY BIGOT will come out of the woodwork to vote.
rogue 15th-Apr-2012 10:57 pm (UTC)
which they will, but i'm praying there will be a greater number of decent human beings coming out to vote as well.
fakevoices 15th-Apr-2012 10:59 pm (UTC)
i don't think the crazy people will vote for mittens. because he is mormon
hoot 16th-Apr-2012 12:10 am (UTC)
I think the Republican race split the party even further, tbh. Santorum and Perry people HATE Romney, so I can't imagine a huge number of them voting for him. They'll probably just write in who they've been supporting all along.

And Paul supporters are in their own little world, so we'll just let them be.
sbennettwealer 16th-Apr-2012 02:34 am (UTC)
Well, maybe every woman will come out to vote, too. After the way the GOP has fumbled women's issues, we stand to make a big difference at the ballot box, I think.

Saaame. He was the first president I voted for and I got up early in the morning to do it too. Can't wait to do it again. I'm terrified of it not going well though.
minalskare 16th-Apr-2012 12:13 am (UTC)
same. i'm so looking forward to it.
la_fours 15th-Apr-2012 11:06 pm (UTC)
I wonder what it's like for people who refuse to vote for a black man or a mormon. It's like a Sophie's Choice of bigotry.
mydogfred 15th-Apr-2012 11:07 pm (UTC)
lmao mhm

consider voting green party in local elections!
cricketgrl 15th-Apr-2012 11:13 pm (UTC)
this desperately needs to happen in Texas. There is so much pollution in Dallas, it makes LA seem clean.
theantipoet 15th-Apr-2012 11:41 pm (UTC)
looking forward to voting third party.

I can't, in good conscious, vote for the guy who thinks it's perfectly acceptable to assassinate American citizens without a trial.
callme_morbid 16th-Apr-2012 12:11 am (UTC)
ikwym. i can definitely identify more with obama's platform, but what his administration has permitted and overall 'liberalism' in this country is disgusting.
jeveuxsavoir 16th-Apr-2012 12:40 am (UTC)
yeah...I admit, Obama's done some questionable things, specifically what you're talking about. But for me, now that I live in a swing state (Virginia - last election I was in Massachusetts) I couldn't ever contemplate voting for a third party candidate (or myself, as I tend to do when I'm not a fan of any of the options on the ballot). If it weren't for the ACA I wouldn't have health insurance right now, and as someone with six figures in student loans, I'm extremely grateful for the change in repayment options.
mankini 16th-Apr-2012 04:46 pm (UTC)
I hope that if Obama wins, VA won't follow the pattern it has been (Governor elected is opposite whatever party occupies the White House). We can't afford to have Bill Boiling, or God forbid, a Ken C. as Governor.
isntdaveone 16th-Apr-2012 12:40 am (UTC)
