Sarah Silverman supports pro-choice debate, tweets 'before-and-after abortion' photos

Sarah Silverman has made a comedic career out of being as controversial and outrageous as humanly conceivable, often using subject matter such as rape, the Holocaust, and child molestation as the punchlines for her jokes. But her latest shock-shock joke on Twitter has a lot of folks thinking she may have crossed the line – even for Sarah Silverman.

“People of both political parties know that more than a million abortions a year cannot be squared with the good heart of America.”

Okay well then I expect him to fund the raising of these million aborted children -- their food, shelter, and education. I expect him to make sure there's room for these million children in our schools, and I expect him to make sure there are jobs available for all 1,000,000 people when they reach working age.

God, fuck him, and fuck the conservative rich.

I get what you're saying but your argument sounds a lot like any anti-immigrants argument i read here and there ("OMG where are we supposed to put all these immigrants and their children? We don't have place in our schools, in our economy,...")
wauwy 15th-Apr-2012 04:59 pm (UTC)
Except in one case (legal abortion) people are arguing against being restrictive of personal choice.

In the other case (outlawing/restricting immigration) people are arguing against being permissive.

Fine, but when you're telling someone that they HAVE TO have a baby, then you are deciding for them, that they have to be financially responsible for that child. Unless Romney is prepared to saddle that burden personally, then he has NO business telling others whether or not to procreate.

Romney may want people to have the kids instead of abort them, but he has absolutely ZERO interest in what happens to the children after they're born. It's ridiculous.
executed_blonde 15th-Apr-2012 05:41 pm (UTC)
THIS.

I saw a bumper sticker yesterday saying something about how it was a shame so many babies were aborted so parents could live life as it pleased them.

And I was thinking, bitch, do you realize how many kids are abused DAILY because their parents don't want them?? Our foster services are already overloaded. Society should be grateful to women who understand their limitations and choose not to bring kids into the world who will go unloved, uncared for, and neglected.
glass_houses 15th-Apr-2012 04:44 pm (UTC)
I seriously gasped. Shock value indeed.
paparatti 15th-Apr-2012 04:49 pm (UTC)
oh my loooooooooooool

A+ Silverman. A+
angelofdeath275 15th-Apr-2012 04:51 pm (UTC)
her belly should've been flat in both pics seeing how iirc the majority of abortions are before a woman is visibly pregnant. Now THAT would've been a real head scratcher for someone.

i don't find this joke funny or unfunny just meh.
executed_blonde 15th-Apr-2012 05:42 pm (UTC)
I like your idea better, tbh
pistol_eyes 15th-Apr-2012 04:51 pm (UTC)
Tacky and not funny. Typical Silverman.
rlmoonyk 15th-Apr-2012 04:54 pm (UTC)

RME @ abortion jokes "crossing the line." Personally, I think jokes about rape, the Holocaust, and child molestation are way worse, but then again I'm not a foaming at the mouth pro-lifer.
_marquis 15th-Apr-2012 05:08 pm (UTC)
lol

this is the first thing she's ever said or done that i actually find funny.

oop.
pikapika217 15th-Apr-2012 05:15 pm (UTC)
ironically enough, this is fairly restrained for her.
xdecadentx 15th-Apr-2012 05:29 pm (UTC)
Genuine questions, people here are saying if you don't think abortions should be used in place of condoms and things you aren't 'pro-choice' but you're still for having them be legal, so what would you call someone like that?

And I'd appreciate a serious response, not just 'an asshole'.
executed_blonde 15th-Apr-2012 05:44 pm (UTC)
Pro choice to me is a mother having the right to choose whether or not to terminate a pregnancy. IMHO- no uterus, no opinion. Men have the ability to walk away from a child- and many do. Women, for whatever reason, have more difficulty with that.

Do I think abortions should be used as a go-to method of BC? No. It's expensive and it harms the cause.

But, negl, if I had the $450 in 2009, I wouldn't have 2 kids. I'd have one.
roxiful 15th-Apr-2012 08:32 pm (UTC)
It makes me sad that you have to pay for abortions. Like, I can't even fathom it.
whalewars 15th-Apr-2012 06:18 pm (UTC)
I'd call someone like that confused. Because honestly, there aren't many women using abortions in place of condoms. I know someone always pops up with their story of someone they know who has had 10 abortions and doesn't bother with other forms birth control (just like someone always pops up and claims they know someone who knows someone who named their child Lemonjello), but that doesn't mean it's commonplace. Abortions are expensive, and while they're perfectly safe (esp compared to childbirth), it IS a medical procedure that involves some discomfort. It's not a go-to option for the majority of women. So yeah, if you call yourself pro-choice, but you're still believing in and repeating anti-choice tropes, then yeah, you're confused and need to do a little more research.
wristtattoos 15th-Apr-2012 09:42 pm (UTC)
pro-choice.

it's really not that common to use abortion in place of HBC/condoms.
