Chris Hemsworth Dishes On Viking-Influenced Asgard in 'Thor 2'

The 'Cabin in the Woods' actor says that newly tapped director Alan Taylor is going to make Thor's homeland more special by bringing more Viking-inspired aspects to the sequel.

After wrapping "The Avengers", Chris Hemsworth is gearing up to film "Thor 2" in August. While plot details of the sequel are still kept secret, the Australian actor recently opened up that in the follow-up film, Thor's homeland Asgard will likely have more Viking-inspired touch with newly tapped director Alan Taylor serving behind the lens.

Speaking to Slash Film, the older brother of Liam Hemsworth said that Asgard will have "big waterfalls and mountains and a Viking influence, where the Norse mythology kind of grew from." He added, "Having that in Asgard is going to make it all the more special and that's what Alan wants to bring to it. I think that would be the new aspect to this one."

The "Cabin in the Woods" actor added that he has already read the script and admitted he is excited about shooting the "Thor" sequel. He said, "I have read a script and we start shooting in August. I met with Alan Taylor a couple of months ago and Natalie Portman and I and Alan and a couple of Marvel guys and it was hugely exciting."

With Taylor replacing Kenneth Branagh as the helmer, Hemsworth believed that the next God of Thunder movie is going to be more exciting. He said, "Ken did such a wonderful job and, with scheduling or what have you, he didn't end up doing this one, but I'm a big fan of the 'Game of Thrones' series, which is Alan's latest work, and I think that is what's exciting about the second one."

The 28-year-old then said that Taylor would make the sequel "sort of more tangible" and have "a more organic feel to Asgard and that world." He added, "I think the science fiction element to 'Thor'... the danger is it falls a little bit into the world of its 'tough to throw a light to'."

"Thor 2" is written by Rodat, who penned the original script from Don Payne. The anticipated Marvel superhero movie has been scheduled to make its way out to the U.S. theaters on November 15, 2013.

andthenwevomit 15th-Apr-2012 12:23 am (UTC)
I haven't seen it yet! Is it as good as the ratings say?
ohkimosabe 15th-Apr-2012 12:13 am (UTC)
For some reason Thor was really hard for me to watch :/ some things dragged out, but Chris was perfect in it.
calumfan 15th-Apr-2012 12:13 am (UTC)
Can Jane please be killed off? DNW Natalie Portman in the Thor movies anymore.
snortingcoke 15th-Apr-2012 12:15 am (UTC)
i would rather have thor and sif together
inboots 15th-Apr-2012 12:17 am (UTC)
that would go so well with the enormous-for-a-het-ship loki/sif portion of the fandom.
calumfan 15th-Apr-2012 12:18 am (UTC)
Yes, during Thor I was thinking the same thing. after bad bad thoughts of Thor and Loki
theoreticalpixy 15th-Apr-2012 12:26 am (UTC)
I would pretty much kill for Sif/Thor to happen in the movies ngl.
milesaway 15th-Apr-2012 12:32 am (UTC)
i wonder if they'll throw a love triangle into this movie to make things more dramatic and make us care about jane if most of it is taking place on asgard. But I don't want sif to be a homewrecker
secretivexhero 15th-Apr-2012 12:39 am (UTC)
Sif in the movie is soo beautiful
starchain 15th-Apr-2012 12:17 am (UTC)
I had hoped that with Patty Jenkins gone she would be gone too but apparently she is still here. I really need Thor to hook up with Sif, those two belong together.

You sound like you enjoy slash and u don't want females interferring with ur ship

She honestly ruined the movie for me. I hate it when superheroes have a love interest. Can you just be a badass!?
ohbubbajoan 15th-Apr-2012 12:37 am (UTC)
ia. i love Portman, but Jane was so fucking damn annoying.
lovedhurtlost 15th-Apr-2012 03:32 am (UTC)
Ugh, noooo. I loved Thor and Jane. I don't understand you haters.
