5 Great Winners of The Best Original Song Oscar

It’s been stuck in my head for weeks like a psychotic episode: “My Heart Will Go On,” Celine Dion’s big, bombastic ballad from “Titanic.” Now that James Cameron has finally released the 3-D redo of his 1997 shipwreck epic — the winner of 11 Academy Awards, including best original song — it still won’t go away. It goes on ... and on ...

But we’re all about turning a negative into a positive around here, so we’re using this as an opportunity to talk about five other great winners of the best original song Oscar. There are dozens to choose from so you’ll have some favorites of your own, but these are sure to keep you humming along:

To this day do not understand how "I Just Called To Say I Love You" beat out "Against All Odds," "Footloose," "Let's Hear It For The Boy," AND "Ghostbusters." Three of those songs are iconic, with LHIFTB trumping all the others. 20+ years of bitterness over that year.

Let's Hear It for the Boy is flawfree. Stevie Wonder wishes he could.

well "Ghostbusters" was a ripoff song so it really didn't deserve to win, but yeah, ia about the rest. Especially "Against All Odds," fuck that song is great.

People would have been CUT if I was in that audience. Alas, I was like 5 or something. But if I could go back and time and cut people for that travesty...I would.

I'm so happy that Bret Mckenzie won this year for his song on The Muppets.

10 years later and I still listen to Lose Yourself when I need to re-group/re-motivate. Really powerful song in English as it is and even more so when you read translated versions in other languages.
