I love that she speaks her mind and generally gives no fucks what people think. I hope she's doing ok mentally though after those cutting photos last week :/
killetheth 9th-Apr-2012 03:09 pm (UTC)
they look old imo
i'd be more worried if she had fresh ones :(
aestheticfusion 9th-Apr-2012 02:39 pm (UTC)
her scars make me so sad for her
die2nitelive4ev 9th-Apr-2012 02:40 pm (UTC)
I always feel like she's attention seeking. This is why having so much so young is a bad thing.
flutesinger262 9th-Apr-2012 02:42 pm (UTC)
yeah shes not. She tweeted an inside joke and everyone started calling her anorexic last night
onesidefighting 9th-Apr-2012 06:59 pm (UTC)
ia, not to say that she's not allowed to defend herself but i feel like she blows up every little rumor way out of proportion
coutureable 10th-Apr-2012 05:58 pm (UTC)
Well, cutting and all that shit is a form of attention seeking behavior. I mean, unless you do it in an area no one can see. I never understood people who cut their arms and then were surprised people asked them about it. I had a friend who cut herself in places NO ONE would see unless she was partially undressed and I didn't even know about it until I saw her in her underwear one day.
flutesinger262 10th-Apr-2012 10:10 pm (UTC)
thats where your wrong though, its really not and when it is attention seeking its the person crying out for help. She also has been trying to cover it with jewelery.

I worked on an inpatient unit and all the girls there cut on their arms where everyone could see it, even though it meant they could get in trouble or lose privileges.
slapband 9th-Apr-2012 02:40 pm (UTC)
I'm not saying that she does or doesn't have an eating disorder, but at the peak of my ED I had every excuse at my fingertips, and dietary restrictions were my favourite. "I'm a vegan, I'll just have a glass of water" was just so simple and no one questioned it.
disclosure 9th-Apr-2012 02:50 pm (UTC)
This. I worked at an ED inpatient treatment center for a long time and honestly we couldn't trust anything. We didn't even allow veganism/vegetarianism.
whitewatergirl 9th-Apr-2012 03:24 pm (UTC)
I've never had an ED, so forgive me if I'm wrong, but it seems that so many who are vegans now once had EDs. (Note, I'm not saying all vegans had EDs, just that many who once had EDs seem to then become vegans). Have you noticed that too?
meadowphoenix 9th-Apr-2012 03:53 pm (UTC)
How did you deal with religious restrictions?
ekrelly 9th-Apr-2012 04:21 pm (UTC)
yeah at the treatment centre I was in, they only allowed dietary restrictions if it was a legit allergy or medical problem.
littlelightss 9th-Apr-2012 07:09 pm (UTC)
That actually makes me sad to hear that. I was a vegetarian before, during, and after my eating disorder. For me, the two were never related (although that's a conclusion people love to jump to), and had my recovery included eating meat I would have been devastated. I even became a vegan several years after recovering and I think, if anything, it made my relationship with food healthier.

Obviously this isn't the case for everyone and I know that, but my heart just sinks a little based on personal experience.
affliction 9th-Apr-2012 02:54 pm (UTC)
this.
silveretude 9th-Apr-2012 02:55 pm (UTC)
Yeah me too. One of my friends is also a vegan and has been rediagnosed as anorexic tried to commit suicide on Saturday.

Either way, for whatever reason she's losing weight and has scars, I hope it's not for any bad reasons and that if they are, she has supportive people around her.
tink_1326 9th-Apr-2012 03:06 pm (UTC)
Exactly, I feel like everytime a star gets defensive about an ED accusation it just makes it seem so much more obvious.

I actually ended up with high cholesterol (genetic, not dietary obviously) so I used that excuse to eat low fat EVERYTHING.
youve_got_wings 9th-Apr-2012 03:31 pm (UTC)
That's actually true, it's easier to hide your ED by pretending you're just on a very special diet
deja_vu822 9th-Apr-2012 04:29 pm (UTC)
exactly what i came here to say
mneiai 9th-Apr-2012 04:45 pm (UTC)
Yep, my sister was a "vegan" for two years. She was probably living off of head lettuce for a bit.
talklikelions 9th-Apr-2012 05:52 pm (UTC)
excuses are so easy to come by. you manage to convince yourself that you're perfectly okay and obviously if you were sick you'd look ____ or be ____ lbs, so despite everyone around you seeing it, it's like nah. I'm fine, look at me, I eat, I'm healthy.

IDK I still delude myself I think, I know I don't eat enough and when I do it's at night or mini binges, I still purge, but I'm at a way high weight so like...clearly I'm recovered.
sweet_honesty 9th-Apr-2012 06:14 pm (UTC)
The media just needs to stop talking about her body. Six months ago they were all talking about how she was gaining weight/chubby. If she has an ed, it's the media's fault.
sooz 9th-Apr-2012 11:30 pm (UTC)
i really am allergic to fucking everything and I don't even sort of look like i need a sandwich :P
oh7 9th-Apr-2012 02:41 pm (UTC)
I thought she wasn't speaking to her dad.
flutesinger262 9th-Apr-2012 02:43 pm (UTC)
no that was like over a year ago during the divorce. They've been papped together since and she tweets him stuff like "I love you" and "Miss you"(when hes working).
dirrtypony 9th-Apr-2012 02:42 pm (UTC)
i am going gluten free for a week to see if it can help me out.
agatharuncible 9th-Apr-2012 03:34 pm (UTC)
I would but I can't bother. There's already a lot of stuff I can't eat
saturated_style 9th-Apr-2012 03:42 pm (UTC)
It's helped me control my seasonal allergies really well. I cut out gluten, dairy, and white sugar a month ago and I managed to stop taking allergy pills and sudafed. I've loosened up a little and if there's gluten in something that I can't control then I don't complain and just eat it, but I do notice that the next morning I'd have to blow my nose right away.

idk what you're eliminating it for, but good luck to you!
dirrtypony 9th-Apr-2012 03:49 pm (UTC)
i have been having stomach issues for awhile now. also bad headaches, bloat...and apparntly my aunt is allergic to yeast so i thought maybe i should cut back on my intake and see if it helps at all.
mammary_glands 9th-Apr-2012 04:04 pm (UTC)
hoooooooooold up

this really helps? i'm all fucked up with my seasonal allergies atm, and i'm almost desperate enough to go by this comment on ONTD and try a gluten, dairy, and white sugar-free diet.
mneiai 9th-Apr-2012 04:48 pm (UTC)
Do you think you're possibly allergic to something in them? Like chemicals they're processed with?
teamdowney 9th-Apr-2012 05:06 pm (UTC)
I really liked when I went gluten free. I just felt better, but that was when I genuinely thought I had celiacs or a gluten intolerance because my doctors couldn't figure out the cause of my ibs. They still can't, I am considering going back to it.
luvisamixedtape 9th-Apr-2012 06:31 pm (UTC)
I've been gluten-free for two years now and felt tons better. Thinking of cutting out white sugar now.
staticrebelle 9th-Apr-2012 05:17 pm (UTC)
tbh it takes more than a week for anything to change lol i've been gluten free for 3 years and for any noticeable differences, it took about 2 months or so. anyways i recommend it completely, i feel amazing every day (physically and mentally). hasn't helped my skin at all as Miley is suggesting but in every other department i feel amazing :)
spiritstairway 9th-Apr-2012 06:27 pm (UTC)
tbh going gluten-free (I have gluten/wheat/gliadin intolerances. among others) was a pain in the ass for the first few months, especially getting over my bread addiction. It was so worth it, though -- potatoes, quinoa, rice, etc., all make feel way, way better than bread ever did. It might take a few months before you notice a difference, though.
ashtrayrock 9th-Apr-2012 07:29 pm (UTC)
If you think it's something like celiac you're best to talk to your doctor first. They'll want to do the blood work and possible biopsy when you're still eating normally otherwise you can skew your results and it'll go undiagnosed. Plus for a lot of the issues from that kind of disease you're talking needing to be on the diet for a year before your system is really cleansed of everything. My Mom went on the diet after being diagnosed and she actually felt like shit the first week as her body went through withdrawl for gluten and it wasn't for a few months that she started feeling better.
bbbitchface 9th-Apr-2012 08:33 pm (UTC)
i tried for a while last year but bloody hell everything yummy in life has gluten haha, so i eventually gave up. it didn't help that i was trying to go off dairy at the same time, i was going crazy. i think this time i'm going to take baby steps and try to go a week without bread.
whatevrecords 9th-Apr-2012 08:43 pm (UTC)
omg do it! i havent had gluten for 3 months, and i havent been bloated or had any stomach pains, and have lost 40 pounds along with exorcising alot. it's so worth it.
livefreexo 10th-Apr-2012 12:02 am (UTC)
i really want to, to see if it'll help with my skin disorder... but i don't know if i have the willpower :S
adri278 10th-Apr-2012 08:44 pm (UTC)
I did it for like 3 months last year. I lost 15 pounds (kept losing after I went back on gluten) but I went off it for different reasons and it didn't really help with that.
crystalzelda 9th-Apr-2012 02:43 pm (UTC)
Oh no, her scars look really fresh. :/ I hope she gets the help she needs.
fionaapple 9th-Apr-2012 02:43 pm (UTC)
I'm surprised somebody hasn't said "SHES A CELEBRITY SHE HAS MONEY Y SHE DEPRESSED" yet. I hope she gets the help she needs and gets better. It must be hard finding people to trust with personal issues in Hollywood.
affliction 9th-Apr-2012 02:54 pm (UTC)
"SHES A CELEBRITY SHE HAS MONEY Y SHE DEPRESSED"

let's hope no one is that stupid
boomstick 9th-Apr-2012 03:01 pm (UTC)
I used to work with a guy who said that about Kurt Cobain. He was a serious moron in general though.
vanishingbee 9th-Apr-2012 03:06 pm (UTC)
it's true though, everyone knows that poor people can't be happy and rich people can't be sad.
hello_samm 9th-Apr-2012 05:15 pm (UTC)
anyone who's seen titanic knows that rich girls get depressed duh
chocklit_frog 9th-Apr-2012 05:45 pm (UTC)
Win! lol
rubyboots 9th-Apr-2012 02:43 pm (UTC)
She really shouldn't be on Twitter.
crystalzelda 9th-Apr-2012 02:44 pm (UTC)
Didn't she quit? When did she come back?
flutesinger262 9th-Apr-2012 02:45 pm (UTC)
scarletfbl 9th-Apr-2012 02:45 pm (UTC)
ikr? There was a post or something about it not that long ago.
rubyboots 9th-Apr-2012 02:45 pm (UTC)
Yeah I remember she did quit at some point, I don't follow her so I'm not sure when she returned.
brandon198403 9th-Apr-2012 02:59 pm (UTC)
She came back when her latest album/tour was going on (I believe it was an overseas tour only though). It was originally just a Twitter for her tour info but she kept it after that.
ectypes 10th-Apr-2012 01:37 am (UTC)
ita it just feeds her insecurities. all those people fawning on her... she needs someone to tell her that she's NOT always right and that a lot of her feelings just stem from the fact that she's a damn teenager. where is her mother?
scarletfbl 9th-Apr-2012 02:45 pm (UTC)
do some people follow a non-glucose diet, even when they don't have an allergy/condition?
flutesinger262 9th-Apr-2012 02:45 pm (UTC)
yeah its the new ~fad diet. Also some people do apparently follow it for mental health reasons as an ~alternative medicine treatment or something.
loveumbrella 9th-Apr-2012 02:46 pm (UTC)
I don't understand it myself but yes.
thrillho 9th-Apr-2012 03:12 pm (UTC)
it's weird to me, I don't understand the recent demonization of gluten (and milk for that matter).
calcified 9th-Apr-2012 03:14 pm (UTC)
Right? Like ofc you lose weight when you cut those out of your diet but all the essential nutrients...
leopard_legs 9th-Apr-2012 03:25 pm (UTC)
right?
I love milk, don't demonize that which I adore so very much
chocklit_frog 9th-Apr-2012 05:21 pm (UTC)
Maybe because celiac is a very serious and potentially life-threatening illness that's only beginning to be taken seriously at all?
fuckyess 9th-Apr-2012 05:35 pm (UTC)
i definitely understand that milk is sort of weird. i mean why are we eating another species baby food? but whatever i freaking love cheese and i'd probably be depressed without it.

but gluten? why is wheat bad? hasn't that been a staple of our diet since... forever?
talklikelions 9th-Apr-2012 09:21 pm (UTC)
well milk is actually often a nationality/origin thing. Like Native Americans typically don't process dairy, we're almost all lactose intolerant. I think it's the same with African and Asian-Americans but I know it is for Native Americans. it's something like 80-90% are intolerant.
lauren_1021 9th-Apr-2012 03:23 pm (UTC)
I have a friend who has a 10 year old with a gluten allergy and she follows the diet with him. She says she feels guilty eating things he can't and it's easier this way.
sheweeherman 9th-Apr-2012 04:08 pm (UTC)
Do you mean gluten?
mneiai 9th-Apr-2012 04:51 pm (UTC)
lol, gluten, yes. Which makes no sense, because gluten-free products are generally really high in useless carbs (like white rice, for example), so if you don't have to follow it, it's not really terribly healthy.
the_loveword 9th-Apr-2012 05:15 pm (UTC)
i'm gonna answer this as though you said gluten.

i took the test for celiac's and it was negative, but i still cut out gluten because i couldn't figure out what else would be making me sick (i tried dairy first and nothing changed) and i feel so much better. i don't really understand why, but it's working so i'm going with it.
bliting 9th-Apr-2012 02:45 pm (UTC)
this all makes me feel a bit ill at ease. I hope she gets better
loveumbrella 9th-Apr-2012 02:45 pm (UTC)
I'd die if I had coeliac disease or wheat allergy, I'm never giving up gluten tbh.
crystalzelda 9th-Apr-2012 02:47 pm (UTC)
There's a lot of stuff that's gluten free these days, but I do feel bad for people with lots of severe food allergies. My mom has a bunch of them and she has Hashimoto's disease AND she's a vegetarian, she's not allowed to eat soooo many things. That blows.
loveumbrella 9th-Apr-2012 02:50 pm (UTC)
Yeah, my godparent's kids are allergic to pretty much everything from dairy to eggs to nuts and as someone who is just a bit oversensitive to pollen, I feel so bad for people with food allergies :/.
But it's a good thing it's easier to find alternatives nowadays.
djc114 9th-Apr-2012 04:50 pm (UTC)
Hashimoto as in thyroid? Was she told by her doctor not to eat certain stuff because of that? Because I have an underative thyroid too and my doctor never told me to avoid food.

*potentially side-eying my doctor right now*
fuckyess 9th-Apr-2012 05:38 pm (UTC)
there IS a lot of gluten free stuff, and a lot of it tastes pretty good

but i love whole wheat bread so so much, i'm glad i don't have to give it up
samiringo 9th-Apr-2012 05:43 pm (UTC)
i have hashimoto's...i never realized i had to stay away from certain foods? i just take hormone pills for my hypothyroidism...what does your mom have to stay away from?
theladyflash 9th-Apr-2012 06:30 pm (UTC)
my Mom's the same way and then people make nasty comments about her being so thin. Like you would be too if you have a bazillion disorders, allergies asshats.
volare 9th-Apr-2012 02:55 pm (UTC)
Got diagnosed celiac about a decade ago.
It's a little better than suicide.
super_bik 9th-Apr-2012 02:59 pm (UTC)
I found out recently that I'm allergic to glucose and lactose, and it's shit.

I just want to eat all the food :(
leopard_legs 9th-Apr-2012 03:28 pm (UTC)
my mate has coeliacs, it's nasty
it's mostly flare ups rather than continuous but she's so heartbroken when she can't eat cheese/pizza/bread and all sorts :|
she is a little piggy so it was like being told that they'd take her legs or something haha
sheweeherman 9th-Apr-2012 04:09 pm (UTC)
That's a pretty shitty thing to say, and I get really tired of hearing it. I'm glad I'm not on the brink of death anymore, personally.
cityxpretty 9th-Apr-2012 04:10 pm (UTC)
I had a friend at school who had a gluten allergy and it was SO hard for her to find something to eat in the dining halls. She'd end up just eating a hamburger patty or salad everyday. I had a hard enough time finding something to eat there without any restrictions, but at least I could eat bread.
pennyroyaltea 9th-Apr-2012 04:13 pm (UTC)
i have a gluten intolerance and work at a market that sells only gluten free products and believe me, the things you can get that are gluten free are delicious. the only downside is that they are expensive. a loaf of regular wheat bread at the store is like 2-4 dollars where as gluten free can range from 5-9 for a loaf. :(
traversant 9th-Apr-2012 09:10 pm (UTC)
Ifkr??
recenthistory 9th-Apr-2012 02:45 pm (UTC)
Her twitter use and overexposure as a result is probably why she isn't acting much. I forsee a Lindsay situation happening if she's not careful.
fear_toxin 9th-Apr-2012 03:06 pm (UTC)
This. And I can see ONTD cheering her on.

Gosh...the new American Dream sucks.
m1zk0 9th-Apr-2012 02:46 pm (UTC)
if its true hope she gets the help she needs, but lets not make mountains out of a molehill
kwikimart 9th-Apr-2012 02:48 pm (UTC)
This is really sad. The concern trolling from the press and her fans is worse.
Since when did fans think they were so fucking entitled to ask a complete stranger if they have an eating disorder or are cutting themselves?! I'd block people like that, idgaf if they think they are helping, that's disgusting.
WTF.

As for Miley, it seems to me (especially based on her answers) that I think she does have stuff going on but hopefully she is dealing with it/her family and friends are supporting her.
flutesinger262 9th-Apr-2012 02:49 pm (UTC)
whats worse is her friends and family friends actually respond to fans that tweet them about this and when it comes to cutting they made up the most ridiculous excuses from it being photoshopped to they came from a bouncy castle
affliction 9th-Apr-2012 02:53 pm (UTC)
oh man :/ i get what they're doing but at the same time they're sort of making it look worse? because i think we can tell they didn't come from a bouncy castle.
kwikimart 9th-Apr-2012 03:31 pm (UTC)
Oh dear.

I still think the fans are worse but her friends/fam need to stop responding to this stuff.
yououghtaknow 9th-Apr-2012 06:42 pm (UTC)
Stop ur not acting any better then the twitter fans by repeatedly posting this shit tbh
cruel_idol 9th-Apr-2012 02:54 pm (UTC)
To me, people are conditioned to think they are entitled to a celeb's private life, despite the fact that the celeb is only a celeb for the things that people know why they are celebs like singing or acting. It's that "Well celebs don't have private lives" sort of argument. We are taught this well before we are adults through the wonderful manipulations of teen mags and whatnot that "We MUST KNOW who _____ is dating!" and whatnot. Then as we grow older we stick to that "Celebs lost the right to have a private life" sort of thing. Yes celebs will try to reach out to their fans through the media, but really it's just to keep them feeling as if they are "invested" especially when their image consultants understand that certain fans need to feel some sort of "investment". Some celebs are not like this and genuinely are friendly but still...

Some fans may actually be concerned but they are probably causing more harm than good. I can't imagine trying to stay friendly with fans through social media and constantly getting bombarded with thousands of messages about how "I need to come out of the closet", or "I need to go to rehab", and/or "I need to get therapy for my disorder" without it really starting to affect me.

Since when did fans think they were so fucking entitled to ask a complete stranger if they have an eating disorder or are cutting themselves?!

Since Celebrities and others have opened up and invited anyone and everyone into their personal thoughts/choices/decisions/life.

Facebook/Twitter/The Likes has torn down any sense of privacy for those that actively participate in those social networking sites.
yououghtaknow 9th-Apr-2012 06:40 pm (UTC)
AD is getting really bad with the concern trolling smdh I hope she doesn't read it
