DONALD TRUMP JR. Yes, I Killed Those Animals ... and I'm PROUD of It!

Donald Trump Jr. says he bears NO SHAME for slaughtering a bunch of exotic animals in Africa last year ... claiming all of his kills were used to feed local villagers.

TMZ broke the story ... DTJ is coming under fire for a series of pics which show him posing with his brother in front of several dead animals after a hunt last year -- even showing off a severed elephant tail.

Now, Trump Jr. is DEFENDING the hunt on Twitter ... writing, " I have no shame about [the pics]. I HUNT & EAT game ... I'm a hunter, for that I make no apologies."

He explained, "I can assure you it was not wasteful ... the villagers were so happy for the meat which they don't often get to eat. Very grateful."

"These are not endangered animals as an fyi."

As TMZ previously reported, Donald's sons -- Donald Jr. and Eric -- went on a hunting safari in Zimbabwe a year ago this month, and killed an elephant, crocodile, kudu, civet cat and waterbuck.

Ummm... there's a difference between killing a deer in the woods for food (even that's pushing it) and doing what he did.

Asshole.
polaroidmoment 12th-Mar-2012 10:28 pm (UTC)
For real. I would never go hunting but there is a clear difference between hunters who kill an appropriate amount to feed their families and use all the by-products, and people who kill excessive amounts just for trophies. Ugh.
slut_talk 12th-Mar-2012 10:38 pm (UTC)
I don't think killing a deer in the woods is pushing it. My hometown is in an area where deer are so overpopulated that it's actually hazardous. Now it's different elsewhere, obviously, but sometimes it's necessary.
backincharge 12th-Mar-2012 10:44 pm (UTC)
I completely understand what you mean but it's still hard to think about a hunter killing a deer and more than likely it's children are nearby somewhere watching it happen.
wolfparties 12th-Mar-2012 10:44 pm (UTC)
i think hunting would only be fair without a gun. that way you and the animal are on the same level
browniecakemix 12th-Mar-2012 11:03 pm (UTC)
You do realize that deer are vastly overpopulated in some areas of the country, right? Where my grandparents live, hunting deer is a necessity. They pose serious hazards, destroy wildlife and completely clog up the land. There are a lot of animals like that in different parts of the country--for example, there are people trying to make nutria fur a fashion trend because nutria are so overpopulated in coastal/marshy areas that they are actually eating marshland and literally very directly destroying the type of habitat in which they live.

extremisttt 13th-Mar-2012 04:46 pm (UTC)
On a related note, there's a also difference between buying a packet of meat at the store and going out to justifiably kill it yourself.

sorry, can't stand the sympathy in these posts
beatlesluv 14th-Mar-2012 03:41 pm (UTC)
That's my point. I think it's fine to legally hunt and use the animal as much as possible, but he just did it for SHOW. He comes off as really dochey and showy, and I really can't get on board with that. :/

Just want to point out that in terms of elephant poaching in Zimbabwe- it is actually legal to poach elephants (with licensed hunters).

Elephants are endangered in other parts of Africa, but are actually pests (completely overpopulated and they destroy farmland) in some areas of Zimbabwe and the hunting of elephants is of great economic benefit to villages there (who rely on rich tourists like Trump Jr. to fork out thousands for the "honour" of shooting an elephant as game. They also sell the ivory and eat the meat... so it's a "good thing" (as good as it can be)).

JUST WANTED PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT LEGAL POACHING IS NOT ALWAYS BAD WHY AM I STILL TYPING THANK U BYE XOXOOX

ishachan 12th-Mar-2012 10:31 pm (UTC)
Ok, that makes sense then. PETA is still going to jump his ass though.
harborafternoon 12th-Mar-2012 10:34 pm (UTC)
i guess i'd rather we assist in/allow restructuring the political economy in zimbabwe and other places so they didn't have to rely on questionable charity and tourism. i mean, africa is like the most resource-rich continent out of the bunch- it's fishy that they are relying on hunting hand outs in zimbabwe, for example.
cuckfancer 12th-Mar-2012 10:43 pm (UTC)
i agree. it does feel "fishy".

however, as i said- the hunting is necessary. whether tourists do it or not- it has to happen.

CITES stopped poaching almost altogether in the 70s and 80s and the elephant population grew too massive to control. they would graze upon farmland freely and villagers were powerless to stop them.

economically benefiting from the death of animals IS gross- i understand- but it's almost a necessary evil for impoverished areas.
ishachan 12th-Mar-2012 11:34 pm (UTC)
I took a class once on African politics and Africa is RICH in natural resources but the governments are either corrupt, don't have the resources to utilize them or other nations (the U.S, China, etc) have some post imperial/colonial hold over their economies. Basically their resources get exploited by everyone else and benefit everyone else except the people who live there.
nanewt011 12th-Mar-2012 10:35 pm (UTC)
I thought the definition of poaching is the illegal taking of wild plants or animals contrary to local and international conservation and wildlife management laws.

at least, that what wiki tells me
bluesforgotten 12th-Mar-2012 10:39 pm (UTC)
I can definitely see this side of it, I guess my issue is more how he sees it as a power trip where he caught food for the poor Africans.
copasetic 12th-Mar-2012 10:39 pm (UTC)
bleh. :( thank you for this info though. it's always best to be informed!

Btw, poaching is illegal, no matter what. I think you mean hunting, or some such similar word.

browniecakemix 12th-Mar-2012 11:13 pm (UTC)
Thanks for writing this; I didn't know that. Everyone's so fucking quick to get their panties in a bunch over an animal receiving the slightest of boo-boos, but overpopulation of a species is a serious hazard. That's actually the case for a lot of animals even in the U.S.--most people know about deer, of course, but in swampy areas nutria are so plentiful and problematic (they literally obliterate wildlife by eating it all) that there are people trying to make nutria fur a fashion trend.
_marquis 13th-Mar-2012 02:08 am (UTC)
i think humans are the ones who are "completely overpopulated" not animals on the endangered species lists.
beatlesluv 14th-Mar-2012 03:54 pm (UTC)
IA. I think it's fair to acknowledge that sometimes it's necessary and legal - when everything is done correctly and fairly. I think a lot of people who are all for protecting animals 100% of the time need to realize that in some places, these animals can ALSO be a detriment to people. And it's better for these areas to hunt fairly and use up all the animal. :/ And I know you meant hunt instead of poach.
scriptedending 12th-Mar-2012 10:28 pm (UTC)
