Kirk Cameron on abortion: "I think that it's wrong, under any circumstances"

On Friday night, actor and evangelist Kirk Cameron joined Piers Morgan for a remarkably honest interview on faith, family, and social issues.

The former star of television's "Growing Pains," Cameron is now a Born Again Christian with strong beliefs on abortion:

"I think that it's wrong, under any circumstances," shares Cameron on "Piers Morgan Tonight." "I think that someone who is ultimately willing to murder a child, even to fix another tragic and devastating situation – like rape or incest or things like that – is not taking the moral highroad."

SHUT THE FUCK UPCollapse )

Hey, Kirk Cameron?

mhfromnh 11th-Mar-2012 04:08 am (UTC)
oh god this is a beautiful gif. push that fucker!
zootycoonlady 11th-Mar-2012 04:06 am (UTC)
okay, i can understand the desire not to kill, and it's good that he doesn't want fetuses to die, but the 100% no abortion view is simply not compatible with reality. Not all women have the money/status/resources that people in kirk cameron's position have to keep an unexpected baby. if you're in poverty, and you can barely support yourself, how can you keep a baby and expect to not ruin your life? women don't make a decision to get an abortion lightly. if someone is driven to desperation because of the circumstances in their life, they're going to get an abortion no matter what, including dangerous back-alley abortions that will kill them.
lauridsen09 11th-Mar-2012 04:14 am (UTC)
He only cares about the baby being born, he doesn't give a shit what happens to the baby after that.
milkradio 11th-Mar-2012 05:01 am (UTC)
Women's lives mean less than nothing to scum like Kirk Cameron apparently.
iamthepirate007 11th-Mar-2012 04:11 am (UTC)
although tbh, i can't stand this guy, i too also don't believe in abortion either, but unlike him, i'm not against it. i don't like it, but i'm not against it.

i think if an idiotic woman had sex and decided not to use any protection or BC methods and gets pregnant - that's an awful reason for abortion.

but at the same time, i think incest and rape are suitable reasons for an abortion. but any other, is just..no. but again, i'm pro-choice so fine.
for_serious13 11th-Mar-2012 04:14 am (UTC)
why does the woman have to be idiotic? isn't the man just as idiotic for not using protection?

also, condoms do fail, and same with BCP's.
yououghtaknow 11th-Mar-2012 04:36 am (UTC)
seriously like wtf
dirtyknife 11th-Mar-2012 06:09 am (UTC)
"why does the woman have to be idiotic? isn't the man just as idiotic for not using protection?"

Seriously. For some reason it's always the women who are "idiots" in these scenarios. Why are men absolved of responsibility?
ilikeandrewbird 11th-Mar-2012 04:14 am (UTC)
It's totally okay if you dont believe in abortion. People just want to have an option.

"i think if an idiotic woman had sex and decided not to use any protection or BC methods and gets pregnant - that's an awful reason for abortion."

I have never met a pro-choice person who DOESNT agree with this. I dont think people realize that we agree with this. No one is ever saying that abortions should be a form of birth control.
yououghtaknow 11th-Mar-2012 04:23 am (UTC)
sorry but I have had sex once without protection it wasn't the smartest idea but am I idiotic I don't think so thanks and you aren't pro-choice if you think it isn't okay to have an abortion for other reasons other then rape and incest
zootycoonlady 11th-Mar-2012 04:28 am (UTC)
I personally don't like it either, but I highly doubt anyone actually LIKES abortion.

The "idiotic" reason you mentioned is exactly why we should increase birth control availability and EDUCATION (which is also something extremely conservative people want to minimize). I think a lot of people have misguided views about contraception, and they end up getting knocked up.
for_serious13 11th-Mar-2012 04:12 am (UTC)
this fuckwit

I saw an abortion truck or van a few weeks ago, i was APPALLED. Covered in random quote from the bible that to me, didn't seem to fit their cause, as well as pictures of abortions and even a few baby dolls covered in red paint hanging from it.

If you don't like abortion, don't have one.
ilikeandrewbird 11th-Mar-2012 04:12 am (UTC)
Okay, so if his daughter was raped and became pregnant, then he thinks she needs to have the child. He's allowed to have that opinion.

But if his daughter doesnt want it, then she has to? That's fucked up.

He's allowed to have his opinion, but people should be offered the choice.
lauridsen09 11th-Mar-2012 04:18 am (UTC)
I'd really like to know if that would happen though. If he'd be able to look at his daughter after she'd just been through an unimaginable trauma, and tell her she still isn't in control of her body and has to have the child. My mother is completely against abortion of any kind, but whenever we get into it, bringing up the possibility of me getting raped and becoming pregnant completely shuts her up.
ilikeandrewbird 11th-Mar-2012 04:27 am (UTC)
I agree. It's just sad when people lack compassion.

It's totally fine if you wouldnt get an abortion, or if you think they're wrong. But if you can't respect another persons decision about their own life and body, then that's really sad IMO.

I cant imagine seeing a woman raise a child ONLY because she legally had to. If you don't want a child or can't handle a child, then you should make that decision yourself.

And the "just give it up for adoption" argument is silly. For one, the person might not be able to carry the baby ie if they were traumatized by rape. I used to volunteer with orphans and it was incredibly sad. Just because you're given up for adoption doesnt mean you go to a family and have a nice life. Thousands and thousands of kids are either never adopted or go to really terrible families who just wanted money from the government.

Sorr for the long rant, but this topic obviously hits a nerve.
animalyears 11th-Mar-2012 04:14 am (UTC)
why do people keep giving him a platform
dance_x_mosh 11th-Mar-2012 04:15 am (UTC)
he needs to just stop talking. he's too pretty to be saying such dumb shit.
dance_x_mosh 11th-Mar-2012 04:16 am (UTC)
i'm not saying whether i'm for or against abortion. i'm just saying he should stop opening up his mouth.
dflux 11th-Mar-2012 04:15 am (UTC)
I must have missed the reason this shithead is still somehow "relevant" enough for people to ask his opinions on abortion on CNN. Can he just go away like every other nutter has-been? Please. Just go.
julietislimited 11th-Mar-2012 04:15 am (UTC)
omg what.
seriously?

god I feel like this will only further him getting interviews.
hwb_bish 11th-Mar-2012 04:16 am (UTC)
K, if a woman or girl is raped and sadly ends up pregnant then they have every fucking right in the world to get an abortion. As does any other woman who feels like this is the best decision for them. End of fucking story!!

Go fuck yourself Kirk
promisemewings 11th-Mar-2012 04:19 am (UTC)
When children born of rape get to that age when they start asking "where do babies come from?" and "who's my daddy?", Kirk Cameron should be the one forced to tell the kid they were a rape baby.
chantonii 11th-Mar-2012 04:22 am (UTC)
STFU Kirk.

it pisses me off how she got shit for flipping a bird on tv yet Adele didn't get any backlash (that I heard/saw).
chantonii 11th-Mar-2012 05:20 am (UTC)
Yeah, that was so dumb. Ugh. And people say racism is over :|
ellie_andrews 11th-Mar-2012 04:25 am (UTC)
Unsurprising but still infuriating. Especially since he has daughters. I mean, hell, my dad's pretty conservative but I think even he would be understanding and supportive if I ever needed/wanted an abortion. Especially if I was fucking raped.

brb thanking the Lord Almighty for not giving me Kirk Cameron as a father.

Same here. My dad is "conservative" but I know he would not talk me out of an abortion.
doverz 11th-Mar-2012 05:04 am (UTC)
Same here. My dad is against abortion but at least he thinks that if a baby is a result of rape or incest that abortion should be allowed.

At least it's something.

Just dig your grave deeper, make even more people hate you. You need to STFU dude.

I don't want him to be gay because I am gay and do not want THAT associated with me at all. It is bad enough I am a human being and he somewhat resembles one.
michelleantonia 11th-Mar-2012 05:05 am (UTC)
If he IS gay, what he's saying is because he hasn't accepted himself, and that's sad and he needs major help with that. I'm not saying to give him a free pass for saying this shit if he's gay, but I'm sure you know, being gay isn't exactly easy in this society, especially if you grow up in an environment where IT;s 100% NOT OK. People deal with that dilemma differently. Some people act like he's acting... that's sad.

If he's not gay, it's sad too. It's sad how much of a hypocrite he's being. Loving your neighbor this is NOT
