'Project X' Actor Thomas Mann in Talks to Join 'Beautiful Creatures'

With Project X taking in $21 million at the box office this past weekend on a reported budget of only $12 million, it's safe to call the film a financial success. Now Variety reports that Thomas Mann, the leader of Project X's relatively unknown cast, has buoyed that success into discussions to join a much more high profile project called Beautiful Creatures, a supernatural love story written and directed by Richard LaGravenese. The film already has an impressive cast lined up, including Oscar-nominee Viola Davis, Oscar-winner Emma Thompson, and the talented and beautiful Emmy Rossum as well.

Beautiful Creatures, based on the book by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, is set in the South and follows two young lovers, played by Jack O'Connell and Alice Englert, who uncover dark secrets about their families, their history and their town. Rossum joined the cast late last week and will be playing Englert's cousin Ridley, a villainous dark witch. Mann would play O'Connell's best friend Link, who is into magic and becomes mesmerized by Rossum (and who could blame him?). Viola Davis will be a seer who looks after O'Connell and his father, but there's no word yet about what part Emma Thompson will take. While the setting and storyline will almost certainly draw comparisons to "True Blood" mixed with Twilight, I'm holding out hope that the finished product will be greater than the synopsis indicates. Production starts in New Orleans next month and a 2013 release is expected.

Has anyone seen that project flick? I kinda want to watch it...but from the trailers it seems like it's trying to be "Go" meets "Superbad" meets awful.
