American Idol judges banned from mentioning 'The Voice'


Is there a cutthroat competition brewing between ‘American Idol’ and ‘The Voice’? HollywoodLife.com has learned exclusively that ‘AI’ producer Nigel Lythgoe is ordering the show’s judges not to utter the words ‘The Voice’ under any circumstances!

It sounds like Nigel Lythgoe wants American Idol viewers to stay focused on his reality singing competition and not that other one on NBC.

We just learned that Nigel is mandating judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler to not use the term “The Voice” under any circumstances — and we can understand why.

The Voice is averaging 19.4 million viewers, while its Fox predecessor is averaging 18 million viewers.

Regardless, Nigel’s mandate seems to be in full effect; just last night on AI‘s March 7th episode, judge Steven Tyler referred to contestant Jessica Sanchez as “the one” among the Top 13 remaining hopefuls. Source

Well they have a "rocker" and a pop star and w/e CeeLo is so I think a country artist fits.

And isn't country one of the biggest selling genres now because well, rednecks don't know how to DL music.

I like him more this season than last season but he annoys the shit out of me during battle rounds. He always ends up picking the lesser talented singer of the two. EVERY time!

I feel like one of the few that still enjoys AI. I just can't with The Voice. Maybe it's because I've been watching AI since I was young and it's like my Tuesday/Wednesday night blanket.

I prefer The Voice because it eliminates the worst part of American Idol: the public humiliation is fun, let's show sad deluded people embarrassing themselves on tv audition rounds. I like that The Voice audition rounds are all people who are somewhat talented and not some sad parade of the most pathetic of America. AI is just gross that way. I also like the blind auditions aspect and that The Voice allows duos and people of any age.

Though I will say I do always love the Hollywood rounds of AI. So much drama lol.

Howard Stern mentioned The Voice/American Idol several times already at the AGT audition tapings.

i wasn't a fan of christina but "the voice" made me love her, she's just so sweet, and she seems to really care about the contestants and she's a very good judge, she gives great constructive critism and she knows what she's talking about, she's a WAY BETTERRRRR judge than jennifer lopez

such a great battle, but she made the right choice, Jesse is a much stronger singer. Anthony brought it, though, he didn't impress me all that much in his blind audition but the battle brought out the best in him.

jesse was acting like such a tool during that little rehearsal. "OH YEAH, I'M COMFORTABLE SINGING IN ANY KEY!" just answer the question, jesus. his voice is far superior than anthonys, though.
