Dwayne Johnson to play 'Hercules,' and Zoe Saldana eyes crime thriller with Christian Bale

• Looks like Dwayne Johnson will finally have to start working out. The former WWE superstar has signed up to play the title role in director Brett Ratner‘s Hercules, based on the 2008 graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian War. Filming is due to start in October. Johnson’s also signed on to Ciudad, playing a soldier of fortune hired to rescue the daughter of a drug lord in the Brazil-set film, to be helmed by Community and Happy Endings directors Joe and Anthony Russo.

Zoe Saldana is in early talks to star in the crime thriller Out of the Furnace, playing the ex-wife of a convict aiming to exact retribution for the death of his younger brother. Christian Bale is aiming to play the convict, and Robert Duvall and Viggo Mortensen are also considering the project, which would be writer-director Scott Cooper‘s follow-up film to 2009′s Crazy Heart. • Kristen Bell has joined the cast of Some Girls, an adaptation of the Neil LaBute play. Bell will play one of the jilted exes of Adam Brody, who is attempting to make amends with former flames before he gets married. Mad Men director Jennifer Getzinger will direct. Bell has also signed up to play the lead voice for Disney’s animated feature Frozen.
