K-POP or KKK-POP? Covert Anti-Black Music Scene Sweeping America

2011 saw an expansion of the music industry into once completely unknown generes. K-Pop, as its been labelled by its stans, has literally exploded all over the scene. Supposively catchy tunes, dazzling stage costumes and precise choreography invaded our eardrums and brains at a rapid pace. But after seeing these Korean names on theatre marquees or even the Billboard charts, do we really know what they're here for? What is the message Korea is trying to convay to us? What do they stand for??

It takes just a quick Google search to uncover some shocking racially offensive incidents these companies work so hard to mask from the public. Sordid histories full of black face, racial slurs and other forms of negative anti-Black stereotypes have plagued the Korean music industry. Yet with the current Asian invasion, the severity of these moments has been smoothed over by the puppet-masters behind these acts and their rabid fans alike, in order to provide a safe passage from East to West. And right into our wallets. Before you purchase a K-Pop album, you might as well save your time (and your ears) and just make a direct deposit into the bank account of the KKK.

How much of this was just yanked from that omona post forever ago lol. Thought something new happened, but old news is still depressing news.
pivotandsway 1st-Mar-2012 04:51 am (UTC)
I guess it's not source-able but you should have included Seungri of Big Bang's comment from his NYC trip in 2007!! There's a reason we call him Seungracist y'all
gee 1st-Mar-2012 04:53 am (UTC)
Seungracist. Junhomophobe. Are there any others? Love kpop nicknaming tbh.
shikinluv 1st-Mar-2012 04:55 am (UTC)
i'd talk about Eli and how his brain does not support new information ever but that would be acting like he's relevant.

and that would be a lie.
pivotandsway 1st-Mar-2012 05:01 am (UTC)
we call Kikwang in the watermelon video KKKwang. Oh there's Leetewk/Ewteuk (Leeteuk), Eunhyuck (Eunhyuk), Shitdong (Shindong), & Shisus for Siwon of Super Junior. G-Druggin for G-Dragon. A lot of Jesus portmanteaus for various people. Taecist (Taeyeon of SNSD). There are other Korean words for them like Mandoo (dumpling) for Sohee from WG b/c her face is so puffy & round. I can't think of any others right now lol.

-Sigh- So I just got into K-Pop right when this stuff comes out. (I just downloaded a lot of Miss A, SHINee, Wonder Girls, Girls Generation, B.A.P. and Big Bang) I guess I have to start deleting some artist...:\
juunanagou18 1st-Mar-2012 04:55 am (UTC)
lol you're going to have to delete a lot. I listened to kpop from about 2003 until 2008 and it was annoying having to jump around k-r&B and their "homages" to Black-Americans. I ended up just sticking to Seo Taiji because even though he was directly influenced by American hip-hop, I can't think of a time where he used the influence in a demeaning manner.
brownxeyedxdork 1st-Mar-2012 04:58 am (UTC)
So even Miss A, SHINee, Wonder Girls and B.A.P.? I also downloaded that a Jay Park song and nothing like this pops up when I googled him.
goldengal1193 1st-Mar-2012 04:53 am (UTC)
Wow. Why are these people being so racist?
varunax 1st-Mar-2012 04:53 am (UTC)
I heard an SNSD member made racial slurs against Alicia Keys, is this true? :/
faister 1st-Mar-2012 04:54 am (UTC)
no it was a mistranslation spread by antifans and shit stirrers.
varunax 1st-Mar-2012 05:05 am (UTC)
oh ok. Idk I just googled it an it said she called her pretty for a black person? and was disgusted by pumashock?

what's most scary about kpop is how netizens(random people on the internet) have so much power over a star's career?

I felt so bad for Tablo when there were rumors that he didn't actually go to Stanford and his family was harassed and Tablo ended up having to show concrete proof.
juunanagou18 1st-Mar-2012 04:56 am (UTC)
Netizens are so fucked up. They're like ONTD, Little Monsters, every Belieber, Reddit, and over zealous Tumblr users all wrapped into one sadistic package. I wish the Korean music industry would stop bowing down to these people. They ruin lives, literally.
splendidlure 1st-Mar-2012 04:59 am (UTC)
I agree. What's even more scary is that they get so much power and no one dares to stop them. The company and celebrities have power to stop netizens, but they're too scared to lose profit/fans if they don't bend over to everyone's wants and desires. ugh. at least celebs in America don't go crazy if they have haters, but Kpop celebrities cry or think of suicide.
redglare 1st-Mar-2012 05:11 am (UTC)
Yep. ;_; The current thing with the suicide petition for the members of Block B is really upsetting me. Apparently someone from the group was hospitalized too?

And then there was the glue soda incident a few years back with DBSK. /shudder
nandexdame 1st-Mar-2012 05:31 am (UTC)
i'm of the mind that if tablo stopped paying the netizens any attention, it would've have been such a huge deal. its not like he relies on his degree to get/keep a job. showing it once would've been fine, but then he just kept going and going and feeding the flame. those people were clearly getting off on the attention. meh
nicolesnitchie 1st-Mar-2012 04:55 am (UTC)
i've never heard/listened to a k-pop song and don't plan on it either
filmfreakfranco 1st-Mar-2012 04:59 am (UTC)
