honestly i wanted her to win cause i love her, and based on her whole career she deserves it and i want her to succeed. but the help is not on oscar worthy movie, viola made the best of her role tho. idk i feel like everyone on here was like "I hate the help, but i want her to win anyway" idk i think everyone loved the idea of viola winning + another black woman winning best actress. hopefully she wins in a role that isn't driven by her race.

The thing that I find upsetting by the whole thing is that it feels like they gave it to Meryl because, like she said, it'll probably be the last time she's up there. If they had just given it to her in 2009 instead of Sandra Bullock, they wouldn't have this problem.

Don't get me wrong, I think Meryl is a terrific actor, obviously. But when you're Meryl playing Thatcher, it's obviously going to be an outstanding performance. The amazing thing about Viola's performance is that she wasn't a household name and she took a shit role and absolutely KILLED it. Yeah, I think Meryl is the greatest actor of our time but even she couldn't save Mamma Mia.
