Taylor Kitsch: "I'm Done Playing Gambit and Superheroes"
Taylor Kitsch of John Carter (of Mars) talks about being the leading man in an epic movie, and reveals that he is no longer interested in playing Gambit again.
What's it like playing the title character in a movie like this, and seeing your picture everywhere?
My ego loves it! It's great man. There's such a huge struggle at the beginning of my career, and who's to say where it goes, but... I think too, its just the work you put in. At the end of the day its not like I'm looking back saying, hey, I had a billboard. Whatever. It's the work I put in, and THAT's what I'm most proud of. You know? For sure.
So, you've been Gambit and John Carter. Are there any other heroes that you want to be?
Chon was quite fun in "Savages". A different type of hero, but, um, no. You know, I never set out to be any of these guys. That's not how I pick my roles. It's all about who you're working with and the character you're portraying, and if there's substance to that. So. And being better at the end of the day for doing the gig. So, um, I'd do it all over again. I'm not on the phone with my team going, Kay, go through Marvel comic books and lets pick out another guy.
Why not? There are a few left.
Not for me though. I'm done with it.
You mean you're NOT going to do it if they want you to play Gambit again?
I don't think so. We'll see. I mean, my plate is so full, and I'm excited to go gritty again. And we'll see what happens with this next job, if I get it, but. It'll be fucking gritty man.
Nobody asked what this "gritty" role was about. And I doubt he could've answered the question if we did--seeing how he wasn't sure if he was going to get it.

i am excited for this weird disney movie with aliens that gives me ~srs business version of flash gordon~ vibes tho
I definitely remember reading A Princess of Mars way back when, but I don't think I read many of the other John Carter books. I read a few of them, though.

So many girl geek dreams shattered =o(
I'm still pressed too, tbh. He would have made such a good Gambit.
And like everyone else I too am still pressed.
Also, was Josh approached? I thought they decided he was too old for the role and didn't even bother.
