Madonna death rumours denied: Lady GaGa fans, Will Smith blamed

Madonna is the latest celebrity to have become the target of a death hoax.

The 'Give Me All Ur Luvin' singer was rumoured to have passed away after the topic "RIP Madonna" began trending on Twitter.

It is believed to have been started as a prank to coincide with the funeral of the late Whitney Houston, which is taking place in New Jersey this afternoon (February 18).

The 'I Will Always Love You' singer passed away at the age of 48 while staying at the Beverly Hilton hotel last Saturday (February 11).

Other Twitter users have claimed that the trend was sparked by fans of Lady GaGa, who has long been accused of trying to model herself on Madonna.

It has also been suggested that "RIP Madonna" started circulating after Will Smith (ETA: NOT THE ACTOR) mocked her collaboration with LMFAO at the Super Bowl.

"RIP Madonna." he wrote. "You aren't dead, but your career is."

Eddie Murphy has also fallen victim to a death hoax this month, while the likes of Bon Jon Jovi, Kevin Bacon and Charlie Sheen were all rumoured to have passed away at various points last year.

yes. it makes total sense to throw shade on gaga for adele slaying. of course.

lol omg you are so silly

it was recognized by being nominated. it didn't WIN because adele came in and took over the world. denying this is one thing, and one thing only: being PRESSED.

btw is critically acclaimed, sold incredibly well, has great tunes, is ENDLESSLY listenable, has a wonderful message, and is IMO the best/most true to self album that gaga has done to date. If you don't like it, that's fine for you, but she did a fabulous job that just makes your tears of hatred all the more sweet.

lol you don't even make sense, your attempts at arguments fail. like what are you trying to say??? that the time someone came out as a pop star dictates their success?? no. 21 swept the world, and the grammys were part of that. you might as well say that kanye's album was a flop because it didn't get nominated for best album at all.

It did not receive mixed reviews, it received "generally positive" reviews. lrn2quote.

lmfao omg you CANNOT BE BOTH UNINSPIRED AND REDUCTIVE I am done with you.

no, I'm not. I'm saying that gaga was up against adele AT THE GRAMMYS. if adele was in another year? sure, gaga could for sure have one. But adele was there, so of course she won!

you just have shitty taste t-b-h
